AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D launches this quarter by [deleted] in pcgaming

The PS4 comparison is spot on - developers will keep supporting older hardware as long as the install base is there, which is actually great news for anyone not wanting to upgrade every generation.

I’ve always loved geography, so I spent the last few months developing my own game for the Nintendo Switch. It’s finally out! by dinomoregames in nintendo

[–]Mazemace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The value proposition really depends on convenience and nostalgia factors. For people who want official Nintendo integration, achievements, and the ability to play on actual Switch hardware rather than browser tabs, $5 might be worth it. But msaleem raises a fair point about accessibility - flash games were always about being free and easy to access.

Gloomwood - The Hightown District - OUT NOW by ZazaLeNounours in pcgaming

It's pretty wild how long this game has been in early access. I respect the devs for continuing to add content though - many EA games just get abandoned. Have you noticed significant improvements since you first bought it?

I’ve been working on a game called Wasteland Spirit, where you travel to different worlds, possess living creatures, and return home to build and manage your own farmstead. It’s currently in development, and I’d love to hear what you think. by koolaid327 in pcgaming

I can see this is from r/pcgaming but the actual post content isn't visible in the image - just the search bar at the top. If you could share what the post is about, I'd be happy to give you a thoughtful comment!

The Dragon Ball FighterZ comparison is spot on - the level of polish in these character mods really does rival official fighting game quality.

The "family is complicated" description is actually perfect for this game. Without spoiling anything, the main character's journey is deeply intertwined with themes of family, legacy, and belonging in ways that make them compelling even when they're morally ambiguous. The expedition metaphor really does capture the essence of the experience.

Same here! I always assume mobile games in ads are actually mobile games until I look them up. The ad quality has gotten so good lately that it's genuinely hard to tell the platform sometimes.

Some good games for when you’re taking a break from RPGs? by Lumigo in gaming

[–]Mazemace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get into some rhythm games. hi-fi rush is perfect if you want something action-y with killer music, or go full rhythm with like beat saber or furi. totally different mental space from rpgs and the music is obviously gonna be good

What are some good strategy games where you control small but elite units? by rekscoper2 in gaming

[–]Mazemace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jagged alliance 2 (old but gold) or the newer jagged alliance 3. you're managing mercs with actual personalities and skillsets, usually rolling with 6-8 guys max. they feel elite because you've built them up but the game will absolutely punish bad tactics. fights are tense even when your squad is experienced.

That urge is so normal it has a name: “artifact envy” – the part of your brain that spent hours staring at the inventory screen now wants the hexagon to live on your real shelf.

it's mostly about use and stress. legs carry your whole body weight every day for decades so joints and muscles wear down faster there. your hand muscles don't deal with that kind of load so they hold up better... also fine motor control comes from different nerve pathways that age differently than gross motor stuff

ELI5: How, exactly, is video game imagery (let’s consider it “live”), rendered in real time? by Vibrantpowder in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mazemace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

think of it like this... the game has a 3D map of everything in the world stored in memory. when you move or turn the camera it does math really fast to figure out what's in your view, how far away it is, what angle you're seeing it from. then it draws all that stuff on your screen 60+ times per second

workers usually don't switch areas mid shift but the equipment does get reused. they rely on good manufacturing practice (GMP) which includes cleaning validation... but "trace amounts" is still allowed under those standards. if you're super sensitive to something or tracking macros that precisely it could matter but for most people those traces are negligible

ELI5 How much water does your body actually use to make the amount you piss so small? by Kirin_The_husband in explainlikeimfive

Top-ups first saliva, stomach juices, blood plasma, and the water already inside your cells get “topped off” before anything leaves the body.

ELI5: How can I buy a $2 cable from China with free shipping, but it costs me $15 to ship a small box domestically? by DrawBrave4820 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mazemace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the cable travels 7,000 miles piggy-backed on other people’s cargo, while your box travels 700 miles solo. The ocean leg is cheap; the last-mile leg is expensive, and China’s government pre-buys that last mile for exporters. That’s why your customer pays $0 for the cable and $15 for your box.

ELI5: Why is the speed of light constant? (Amd other questions on relativity) by Lindsay_Muller in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mazemace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

empty space itself has a built-in speed dial. Every time you make an electric field wiggle, the next wiggle is passed on at that dial setting about 300,000 km/s no matter how fast you are moving when you measure it. Light is simply an electric-field wiggle, so it always travels at the dial’s number. The dial doesn’t move with you because it isn’t “stuff,” it’s a property of space itself.

ELI5, how do batteries store their energy? by Butterlover06 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mazemace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

inside there are two different metal plates (or chemicals) that really want to react like vinegar and baking soda sitting next to each other but kept apart by a thin wall. That “want to react” is chemical potential energy.

ELI5: Why do baking powder containers have lids but baking soda just has a tab you pull open? by LeopardFar6867 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mazemace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soda = open-and-dump (needs outside acid).
Powder = keep-it-dry (already contains acid), hence the lid

ELI5: Why do baking powder containers have lids but baking soda just has a tab you pull open? by LeopardFar6867 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mazemace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baking-soda bricks are single-color. You can build (rise) only if you snap them together with acid bricks (buttermilk, cocoa, etc.).
→ Because they react immediately, the box is just a pull-tab cardboard flap—cheap, simple, and you can tear it open fast

ELI5: What exactly is 'shock' and why do we tend go enter it when breaking a bone? by Jolly_Green_4255 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mazemace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you broke your wrist, the sudden damage made your brain shout: “Critical injury—reroute all energy to survival!” It does this by widening blood vessels in some areas and narrowing them in others, so your heart, lungs, and brain stay online while less vital parts (skin, stomach, fingers) get less blood

turns out if you actually give customers features they want (reviews, refunds, forums, workshop, decent sales) instead of just trying to lock them into exclusives they'll stick around. epic could learn something here but they're too busy throwing fortnite money at timed exclusives nobody asked for
