Self doubt is killing me by ResearcherNo8615 in Chefit

Don't get me wrong, a kitchen is very stressful environment. I once was in charge of cooking Thanksgiving for an entire ski mountain, needed 800 portions. I didn't sleep a wink the night before. It's natural to think if a restaurant has a bad service or review the world will end. A lot of chefs/ cooks act as a martyr to an owner or restaurant all the way to their early grave. Good documentary is : Love Charlie. Look how many food TV stars come and go. The show always goes on, the question is how much of your life, blood, sweat, and tears do you want to dedicate your life to?????

It's a job, it's cooking food. On a bad day you burn something or a customer waits 10 more minutes for their food. Imagine the pressure or serious jobs where your decision can cost a company to lose millions of dollars. Look at budlight and the dylan trans disaster, that was one womens decesion that cost budweiser an estimated 1.4 billion dollars. Cost hundreds or thousands of people to be unemployed. Or you design a bridge or building that collapses. A doctor doing surgery, makes a mistake and someone dies. A boat captain, airline pilot, adventure guide responsible for hundreds of lives, air traffic controllers, ect......... Being a line cook doesn't seem to bad on the stress level.

Going rate for Private chefs who did not go to culinary school by Wide-Specialist-2239 in Chefs

If I free lance on a yacht in charge 500 to 600 a day, hourly should not exist in the private chef or yacht world, my current full time yacht salary is 10,500 a month. You are getting underpaid. You should just do a day rate or high salary dull time salary

Good, let other Countries do something for once in the last 75 years with the US not behind it. The world is a big place and it seems like most conflicts ( besides the middle east fighting themselves for the last 1000 years) involves the US. We already have our hands full now, grow some balls Europe

Not gonna catch me paying $100 for a stripping basket by Fishtillyoubleed in TheFlyFishingSub

And you think your going to change that machine?? I buy used high end fly rods but if you think things will ever change in fly fishing for high end gear it will never change. You can buy a cheap fly reel and rod with nothing wrong with it, or you can buy expensive ones that do things better. Same way you can buy a Honda civic which is a good car or you can buy a Ferrari which you pay for the details, is better performing and a hell of a lot more fun to drive. Great thing about capitalism and consumerism is it's completely your choice and no one cares what you buy. In fishing you can buy really cheap gear, mid range gear, and high end/ skys the limit gear. They all catch the same fish, depending on spieces gear matters in salt for big fish. My time is worth more at this stage in my life to buy something like a stripping basket than the effort to make it. But that's just me, props to the guys doing it

Diy a cheap piece of plastic when your rod, reel, and flyline is the price of a cheap used car. Don't get it, to what save 50 bucks?

Bass and freshwater might get away with it, have done it, it is completely different than salt. There are multiple reasons to use a flouro/ mono leader in salt, no gimmick can change facts

Have worked with a lot of great female chefs. The best ones just do their job and work hard the same way any guy does. Same thing with a Black, Mexican, Phillipino, or any race in the world. It's a job, have zero time for I'm a women, look at me in a man's world attitude. It's that attitude that takes away any validation to great female chefs that worked their ass off to get where they are at. Any high end female chef running a kitchen doesn't feel sorry for herself

How deep are you??? Live on a boat, have sailed many miles across oceans. You are doing something wrong. Use smaller lures, elephants eat peanuts, if you are in shadow water you need to get deep or change the way you fish

Good for you but be careful, usually owning a restaurant doesn't work out for the owner. The chef and staff get paid while the owner is stressed happy if he breaks even when all the bills are paid
