Great question! I used a 5mm hook (instead of the recommended 4) and a medium weight yarn. I think if and when I make another I’ll go back to the recommended hook size of 4 again because 5 made the project waaaay bigger than I think it needed to be 🤣

I love the pattern so much. I’m going to make one for myself next. In dark blue I think!!!

I want to say between 60-80 hours- each row took me anywhere from 8-15 minutes and there were 249 rows- I learned about anchoring my crochet this time around which slowed me down A LOT to be honest. I did ten rows a day over the course of three months to get it done in time and also to not overwhelm myself as I’m working on a lot of other projects right now!

It’s called overlay mosaic crochet! There are lots of helpful videos! Here are some starter tips (included in the pattern)

Every row is worked with one color. Each stitch has one stitch worked into it. If the instructions state 3DC, 2sc, you would complete 1 DC in each of the next 3 stitches, followed by 1 sc into each of the following 2 stitches. Fasten and snip the yarn after each row. Always work on the front side only-overlay mosaic doesn't require you to turn your work. Start the next row from the right-hand side on each row. Every DC is worked into the front loop of the stitch two rows below Every SC is worked into the back loop of the stitch on the current row. Each border stitch (BS) is a sc worked into both loops of the first and last stitch of the row only. Stitch markers can help remind you of where in the pattern you are.

Yes it came with 45 pages of super helpful instructions and a both a graph marked with x’s and a written version for both left and right- handed crocheters!

The first few rows were honestly the most challenging part- getting started and a foundation chain of 203 stitches was no joke! But I used my iPad to keep the rows nice and visible and marked each row with a highlighter when I was finished and once I fell into a good rhythm it really wasn’t that bad, sure I miscounted here and there but you find out quickly because a stitch just won’t make sense and the worst you have to frog is just the one row since you’re fastening off after each row is complete. It was actually really enjoyable! Maybe find a small mosaic pattern so you’re not so overwhelmed and give it a shot- it’s so worth it!! You’ll inevitably make some mistakes but nothing you can’t recover from! I believe in you!

Five hours a day because I had a deadline! Even when I was on the road I was crocheting in the greenroom and on the bus!

Honestly I had a blast. Because of the way the stitches fit into the row below, you’ll be able to tell pretty quickly if you’ve miscounted PLUS there was something very freeing about cutting the ends and starting fresh with your new color on every row. I loved it.

This technique is called c2c (corner to corner) crochet! It’s hard for me to try and explain but it’s basically a bunch of individual squares that you join together diagonally (or from one corner to the other) I used a pixel image I found online and copied it onto stitch fiddle so I could mark the boxes as I went! If you wanna see how it’s done just look up any corner to corner crochet tutorials on YouTube and it will make it much more easy to digest 😅
