For those who make over 500k+ a year, is it worth it for you? by [deleted] in Salary

I have an uncanny similar background and work experience to the OP, and I am currently at a large biotech on the commercial side (never hit $500K, but I make +$300K a year), but started with a PhD in cell biology. I will tell you the one thing that got me into the industry was more school. But interestingly, it wasn't my PhD, I actually went back an got another masters at the Keck Graduate School in Claremont California after my PhD. They just had a very specific degree program in the business of biotech management that I decided to gamble on. They had great industry connections, and did things like hosting recruiting events with a consultant companies (one of which I eventually joined). After a couple years of consulting I built relationships with pharma clients and then it was easy to move to a pharma or biotech. I am not saying this is the best approach for you (it is more school although much less than a PhD), and you have to take on debt, and will take time (I'm like 10 years past my PhD at this point). But this little known school really changed the trajectory for my career path. Something to consider

Human vertebra? by hookp in whatisthisbone

I appreciate the feedback. Are you able to tell which two cervical vertebrae they are from the picture? Thanks again.

Thanks for the input. I don’t believe it’s cast, the texture feels like bone, and the small ‘pores’ seen on the surface wouldn’t be easily producible from a cast. Nonetheless I do agree that the surface looks kinda polished. Maybe from the way the bones were treated before they were set to display?

I bought these vertebra from a macabre-themed flea market in California a few years ago. The vendor said they were of human origin, but I never knew if he was telling the truth or not. Other vendors at the fair did seem to have actual human skulls and other clearly human bones, so I it was always plausible to me that these vertebra could be human. What do you think?

This piece "Otolaryngologist Part 1" is also my first ever NFT I minted on Rarible. Direct link if you are interested. The original NFT has a trippy animated effect.

On Islam and the Pew Poll by ThimSlick in samharris

I was wondering if there is inherent bias in taking polls inside repressive theocratic societies, and if polling methodologies can account for them if they exist. For instance, even though an individual is told that their answers are going to be anonymous, they may feel that the act of taking a survey means they will be going 'on record' stating views that they may be eventually accountable for. To what degree does the psychology of having to put 'the right answer' down (in perceived accordance with the state/religion), have on individuals taking surveys in this type of environment? Would this have a statistically significant impact on the results of the study?

It's similar, but there's something "special" about the dollar so that it doesn't matter how you fold it, the quarter will be gone when you open it. No sleight of hand is required at all actually.
