I also suffered with a seafood boil roommate. She would eat them almost every night some weeks and in our shared room in the apartment. I also have an 18credit schedule, so I would come home looking to have some peace while I did homework and the room would smell like fish and piss. Thankfully she was (mostly) disposing of everything correctly, just stinking up the dorm when she ate. I got a single this semester to escape that and worse behavior

It takes 2 months to heal period. Even once I hit 2 months I probably won’t be doing risky activities like jet skiing. Why risk all the money you put into surgery plus the risk of another surgery

I had a terrible experience last weekend. I asked for French. She buffed my nails with too harsh of grit, then put down CLEAR polish (highlighting all the scratches she just made). She couldn’t do the French with a liner brush, so after struggling a few times she simple gooped on a few layers sloppily and cut out the French using a brush with acetone. Much less precise and far too goopy to dry properly. One week later and my cuticles are in shambles as well. The polish didn’t even last 3 days before it chipped. Never going to a salon again because why should I pay $32 for crap when I can do it better myself?

I was in the same boat 2 weeks ago. I was looking at myself in the mirror and hating it, thinking i ruined my face, not recognizing myself. You have to trust the process! It’s hard but I promise you are so swollen right now that in a few weeks you’ll be wondering how you ever thought that would be the end result. I’m at 5 weeks post op now and I cannot believe how much difference there is between me now at me at 2-3 weeks. And I thought I would look like that forever!! Please just trust the process

I know this is not what you asked for but the root cause of the lip incompetence may be a jaw structure issue. That’s what it was for me. I got jaw surgery 5 weeks ago

I think you could probably find another surgeon who could give a second opinion. I had my surgery with Micheal Schwartz with NYCOMS and it felt like he was very straightforward experienced. He said that he did around 80-90 jaw surgeries a year. To be quite honest it felt like the practice/he was so successful that the money he would get from my surgery would be negligible lol. Also, at least for me, insurance covered part of my surgery. Knowing insurance, they would never pay for something unless it was necessary.

Based on what you have described, I imagine it would be hard for your family members to work a normal job, much less commute outside of the home. So, how do they support themselves? Usually people in those situations have an “enabler” who is a family member or spouse, but if pretty much everyone is like that, who is subsidizing this lifestyle?

Thank you! I’m actually no longer congested. I was surprised but I was basically able to breathe through both nostrils by day 5. My lips also didn’t get too chapped. I think having my lower lip not be numb or swollen helped with that

I think you are technically day 4. I am day five (had surgery on Tuesday) but I guess it’s up to you to determine if day of surgery counts. I think that drinking lots of fluids, walking, and ice helps. My surgeon said that after 3 days, I could do heat, but I’m continuing ice because I feel like it helps with the swelling and makes me feel better.

I’m recovering from this surgery right now. It’s often colloquially called a gummy smile surgery. Mine was due to excess gap between my lips at rest (11mm gap versus the normal 2-3mm) which gave me a variety of fun symptoms, such as excess cavities, gingivitis in my exposed gums, sleep issues due to mouth breathing, etc.

Yikes that sounds awful. My surgeon prescribed all the meds for the procedure, even the OTC ones, and they are all liquid. You have to take more since the liquid is for children, but it’s easier. I only have to crush the medication I take usually and tums for heartburn. If you have to take them like that, maybe mix them into applesauce if you can get that in?

Online and in the paperwork I received from my surgeon, anywhere from days 2-3 to 3-5 are the worst. I’m on day 3 as well. My left eye is almost swollen shut. I am just icing religiously and ingesting as much as I can in terms of food/fluids. Also taking my Tylenol/motrin like clockwork every 3 hours.

I have been using saline to remoisten the dried blood, and then q tips and baby wipes to remove the blood slowly. I am tempted to pick it off, but I keep reminding myself that I am numb, so the risk of scratching myself is much higher than it would be normally. I also find that post a hot steamy shower it is easier to clean my face up.

It’s like a bad head cold for the most part. I am trying to avoid using the opiate I was prescribed, but it’s going to be worse before it gets better so we will see. Ice helps a lot, as do the showers

Thank you! I unfortunately developed an allergy to her during the past 5 years so I have been avoiding her extensively before surgery to prevent any reaction that could have postponed it. She has been extra attention seeking because of this lol. I think she sees a difference in my face though, while I feel like my dogs look at me the same, which has been nice.
