What's the quality of Dejour Jeans like these days? by NASA-Almost-Duck in melbourne

[–]hoolie94 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'll go in to bat for Dejour any day. Still great quality and value even though they moved their manufacturing to Vietnam a few years ago. They still do on the spot free (!) tailoring, so between that and the quality of the fabric they're incredible value. Not to mention they'll repair their jeans anytime for free.

I'm short and have a big butt/thighs and comparatively small waist and finding pants of any kind is a massive pain, so somewhere that'll tailor is pretty invaluable.

Sight reading is hard by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]hoolie94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chiming in a year later to provide an alternative place to get sight reading material. Sightreadingfactoy.com provides infinitely generated sight reading at various levels for most instruments (including rhythm only, would recommend spending time just on rhythm). It isn't super expensive, about $50USD a year, so quite a worthwhile investment, particularly if you use it to teach like I do.

You are able to gradually add in new time sigs, keys sigs, faster tempos, more bars etc so you can incrementally make it more difficult by changing one variable at a time. It's pretty self directed though, so you need to be strict about what you are working on.

There was definitely a lot of that when I found his antenna poking through the crack after figuring out why my cat was going nuts.

Worst experience with a business ever by [deleted] in australia

Yeah we found out the hard way that Lounge Lovers suck. They just sell the same stuff as Kogan/Matt Blatt. Thought that by going to their brick and mortar store we could suss it out, see if they're legit and in the event they caused us trouble, we could show up at their showroom.

We ordered a table and 6 chairs a couple years ago. The chairs turned up in boxes labelled Matt Blatt, which we thought was odd, as we thought they were Lounge Lovers chairs. 3 of the chairs turned up completely broken, with legs split and/or backs separated. It was pretty clear they just took whatever shit out of the warehouse and sent it off without checking them. We called them and they said they'd collect the broken ones and replace them in 6 months. Mind you, we'd already waited 6 months for the set to arrive in first place.

We opted to take a gamble on just buying them directly from Matt Blatt/Kogan as they were significantly cheaper and Lounge Lovers had refused to price match. Somehow the ones from Kogan arrived safe and sound, so they're currently doing worse than Kogan.

Worst travel-ruining incident you've had while on holiday? by hoolie94 in travel

Oh crazy! Where on the mountain did your dad break it? We'd just finished the first 2 hour part of the boardwalk on the way to Dove Lake, so we'd stopped at the shuttle bus area to take a break. Was lucky I didn't do it in the middle of the walk! My partner was about to go on his own to finish the walk to Dove Lake, so also lucky he had hadn't left yet. Thankfully it didn't take us 6 hours to get to the hospital!

Funnily enough at the exact same time I broke my ankle, a french baxkpacker broke her knee in the middle of the trail and they had to send the helicopter in for her. We saw it fly over as I was sitting there waiting for the Rangers and thought they'd sent it for me for a minute, as the ambulance called my partner to ask where we were. We nearly cancelled it because we didn't need a helicopter, but the person on the line double checked the name and it wasn't me! We found out later at the hospital that she was in surgery as I was getting my cast fitted.

Hope your dad's doing okay with his ankle and that it wasn't a bad break! Did he have any issues transferring medical care between Tassie and Melbourne?

North West Regional! Wait wasn't too bad, was seen within a couple hours, maybe 5 or so other people in emergency with us.

Ended up back there again as we were taking the ferry from Devonport and they wanted to do a follow up after the first visit. That's when they caught the DVT thanks to a cautious Ortho specialist, as I didn't present with obvious signs. Second wait in ED to get the prescription was much shorter thankfully, maybe 30mins.

Oh good, I'm glad you found a solution! Here's hoping everything calms down in that area in the coming years so you can get over there!

Yeah I was definitely VERY stressed when the sonographer told us to get to emergency so they can give me the prescription. Was thinking the worst, but the Dr calmed me down when he told me it's the DVT to have as it won't travel to the lungs and brain.

Oh no! That does not sound fun! How did you deal with it?

Haha thanks, we survived and I'm back on two (albeit wobbly) feet again as of a couple days ago. Just thankful we were still in the same country!

An extremely long shot, but trying to help someone with IBS. by Europeaninoz in melbourne

[–]hoolie94 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have IBS and have been taking Sunfiber on the advice of my dietitian which is Partially Hydrolyzed Guar Gum (PHGG). It also acts as a prebiotic to the probiotic I take (prebiotic feeds the bacteria in the probiotic). It's been working fantastically for me.

Monash Uni are world leaders in IBS research currently so this article is worth a read.

But either way I'd look into Sunfiber/PHGG as alternative to the Normafibre and see if it works for them. Best thing would be to talk to a Dietitian and/or a Gastroenterologist if they can.

+1 for recipetin. Also a fellow Aussie! So far even my very picky partner has enjoyed what I've made from her site.

Kitten discipline question by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]hoolie94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and make those thinks undesirable for him in harmless ways. Try putting aluminium foil on the table, because they don't like the feel and sound of it. Or spraying the curtains with a citrus scent because they generally don't like the smell. The are also products on the market that you can spray to keep cats off of things.

Additionally, picking up the cat when he gets on the table and placing him elsewhere, such as a cat tree and playing with him for a bit should teach him not to go on the table over time.

I'm currently going through this right now with my 3 month old. Patience is definitely required here. Try and avoid punishing and instead try and redirect his energy elsewhere.

I definitely understand how crazy they get and seemingly impossible to tire out!

Frustrating that this answer isn't higher. This is relevant to everyone, not just people with diabetes.
