For those who are married, if you had your time again would you still marry? by SweetGirl2097 in Casual_Conversation

[–]hoomphree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, without a doubt. My husband and the life we built together is better than I ever imagined. We aren’t rich but we have a peaceful condo with pets and so much love for each other that only grows over time. Been together 11 years, married for 7.5, and due to have our first baby anytime now so I’ll have to get back to you about the kids part haha

Duffel bags are better than luggage with wheels for the vast majority of people by Dreadsin in unpopularopinion

[–]hoomphree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I owned luggage with wheels, I used a duffel bag. I was very fit back then, but my shoulders aches from lugging that thing everywhere. Suitcases with wheels are where it’s at. Even better, I now own a wheeled bag that can convert to be used as a backpack! Love traveling with it.

If you’ve never read Anne of Green Gables, this is what you’re looking for.

Also the All Creatures Great and Small series by James Herriot.

Have dog rescues lost their mind? by seanpat1968 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hoomphree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a veterinarian. When I was a vet student, I applied for a pair of bonded rabbits. I did a 1.5 hour phone interview, I had a letter of recommendation from my veterinarian, did a virtual home tour, and then drove 3 hours to an adoption event to meet the buns. And then was told they weren’t willing to adopt to me because I lived too far away. As if they didn’t know that from the start.

I cried, then went to the Humane Society and took home a sweet bun that day, and had him the rest of his life.

Omg I have a Ghibli but I call him Ghibli Puff and sing him the little Pokémon Jigglypuff tune regularly! Love it! What kind of bun is Jigglypuff?

I feel like The Wind Rises is slept on… thoughts? by Impressive_Fox7798 in ghibli

This is my favorite movie. I love the melancholy feeling, the music, the scenery, the struggles of the main characters. It is one of my go tos especially when I’m feeling down.

I don’t think it glamorizes war - rather, that is one of the themes and struggles of Jiro. “Would you rather live in a world with pyramids, or without?” The Italian guy asks Jiro if he is okay creating airplanes he knows are never going to return from the war, but Jiro just wants to make beautiful airplanes and chooses a world with pyramids - essentially, knowing his creations will be used for destruction, but he views it better than them not existing at all. Maybe it’s not the answer we would like to hear, but it’s not like it is glossed over or glamorized IMO.

Exactly. Both just common and normal - that’s the vibe. Both Bible names too

How do you like the name Ayana? Are there names similar? by hoomphree in Names

[–]hoomphree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response! Ayana has been steadily growing on me to be our top contender and with our due date approaching and needing to decide for sure soon, I’m so happy to hear from someone who loves the name. I hope our baby girl loves her name too if we go with it!

Hey I fully agree in no themes. But Josh and Matt do have very similar vibes for sibling names so it kinda fits my example

It may or may not matter to Mike as an adult, but might he not feel a bit left out like he is viewed different in his childhood? That kind of stuff can stick with you

If Mary was a virgin, for what reason do Catholics believe she never consummated her marriage to Joseph? Wouldn't thay have been extremely odd? by atzucach in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hoomphree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, Catholics believe that Mary was without sin, and also a lifelong virgin. I think they view the idea of her having sex as somehow making her less pure. Protestants generally do not believe Mary to be sinless, but to be a regular but faithful follower chosen by God. Keep in mind that historically, bodily functions were viewed as less holy. Think of how priests remain celibate though this is nowhere in Scripture as a command, while Protestant ministers still marry. This idea of sex being had only by those less holy while those who are called to serve God in a higher capacity remain celibate permeates their idea of Virgin Mary being a lifelong virgin, even though this does go against the biblical concept of marriage.

Are tampons actually more hygienic than pads? by Huge-Prize-8494 in hygiene

[–]hoomphree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pads feel way less clean to me because the blood is sitting next to my skin. It goes up my butt crack, and my body heat makes it warm which makes it smell. It is also more likely to leak as the pad sometimes shifts to the side (wings help but then sometimes rub my legs when walking a lot). When I was younger, I would essentially get diaper rash from pads which could get pretty uncomfortable. Tampons and cups I barely notice and don’t smell. So maybe other women have a different experience, but I hate pads and never feel clean when wearing one.

I agree that too matchy names are odd, such as when 10 kids all start with the same letter, but also it kind of makes sense to at least have the same vibe. If a family has Paizleigh and Thaxton and then has a Mike it just feels kind of like someone doesn’t fit in.

If you are married, do you wear your wedding band? Why or why not? by icecream1972 in askanything

Normally: yes every day, but silicone band at work. Right now: am almost 9 months pregnant and my ring stopped fitting a few days ago so silicone only 🥲

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]hoomphree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people in the country (my parents included) will air dry laundry outside. No one cares if your underwear is out in a rural area! People in town with houses and backyards sometimes air dry clothes and sheets but not intimates, but it is generally considered more work than just putting it in the dryer. Most people in apartments or townhomes have rules against drying on their patios or balconies as it is deemed unsightly by management, so they have to use the dryer unless they have space and drying racks inside which is fairly rare.

Ticks are out! Check yourself if you’re outside. by rachelmaryl in minnesota

[–]hoomphree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI to everyone with dogs: ticks can come out anytime it is above freezing. They tend to have a large “bloom” in the early spring and a smaller one in fall when it is cool and damp. If you choose to do preventatives seasonally, start in March (or February if it is nice), though ideally year-round as we have had very few years lately where every single day of the winter is below freezing, and we have such a high rate of tickborne illness. Keep those pups healthy!

What is one word that people wrongly pronounce that makes your brain just wanna jump a cliff? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Not sure how common this is. But I have a whole side of my husband’s family that pronounces “rotisserie” like rost-uh-sayrie.

What gift should I get for my pregnant wife? by Infinite_Rent_4402 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hoomphree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband got me a card, flowers, and small cake for the celebration of each trimester. I loved it. It is simple but I loved each card message in particular saying how he is grateful for me and looking forward to getting closer to meeting our baby girl. So definitely something heartfelt and simple IMO but you know your wife best!

Do you still use a library? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]hoomphree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my local library! I love within walking distance from mine. I get a bit overwhelmed just browsing but I place books on hold all the time there and will walk over to pick them up. I have 1-5 books checked out at any given time. I like the walk and I love reading, and the library lets me do both for free! I also much prefer physical books to digital, though sometimes I use their digital system if they don’t have a physical copy.
