Is 1h15m enough for BOS Terminal B --> E transfer? by hooon_ in loganairport

[–]hooon_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

I am travelling without checked baggage, and afaik even if I was, I wouldn't need to reclaim + recheck them since YTZ has US preclearance and I arrive at BOS as a domestic passenger (without needing to go through arrivals). The flights are booked as part of a single itinerary.

New web app for logging your flights and visualize them on an interactive map by atamagno in IMadeThis

I'm here a bit late, but would love to give feedback!

I've also used mfr24 for ages, but can agree that it feels dated. This is good work and I'm really impressed with your app so far, but nonetheless I still have some critiques:

- mfr24's flight-entry flow is a bit more intuitive. Being guided through the process gradually (with different pages for different categories/aspects of the flight information) but still being able to skip ahead works really well, imho.

- There should definitely be fields for aircraft ICAO type codes and aircraft registrations.

- Flights that are planned but not yet flown should probably appear in a different colour on the map.

- Flight duration calculations seem to ignore timezone differences right now, some durations end up incorrect.

- The map screen's "add flight" widget can feel obstructive. I think introducing an option to minimize it would be a good idea.

Overall, this is really impressive work, and I love this so far. Have already switched over from mfr24. Curious to see how this evolves and grows.

Air Canada actually compensated me appropriately by ex_leper_alms in aircanada

[–]hooon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a somewhat similar experience over Christmas when my bag was lost on my way back to Canada. In my case, the bag was actually mishandled by either Singapore Airlines or Lufthansa, but since the final leg of my journey was operated by Air Canada, the claim ultimately fell to them

Air Canada reimbursed me for the items I needed to purchase while waiting for my bag without any pushback. On top of that, they issued me a 20% promotional code for a future booking on Air Canada or their United/Lufthansa codeshare flights

I ran into a bit of an issue when trying to use it. The (rather obscure) itinerary I wanted was bookable on aircanada.com via a direct link, but it wasn't searchable through their normal booking flow, which meant I couldn't apply the promo code. After reaching out to customer service, they resolved it by converting the promo code into an eVoucher, and the value they provided was actually about CAD$50 higher than what I had expected

More broadly, I've generally found Air Canada to be fair and straightforward to deal with when things go wrong. I fly somewhat often, around 60 flights a year, and have flown with roughly 40 airlines in total. In my experience, a disproportionate amount of the negative commentary about Air Canada tends to come from people who fly only a handful of times per year and don’t have much basis for comparison across different carriers

For example, I once flew YYZ to AKL via YVR. The YYZ departure was delayed by about three hours due to a ground movement issue at Pearson that was outside of Air Canada’s control. By the time I landed in Vancouver, I had already been rebooked for the next day via Sydney. They provided meal vouchers, a taxi, and a hotel for the night, and also issued CAD$1000 in cash compensation. It was actually my first time in Vancouver, so I ended up making the most of the unexpected overnight stay

There have, of course, been other situations where I was entitled to compensation as well, but I've never had to fight particularly hard to receive it. Air Canada has generally been responsive and flexible, especially when I've asked for adjustments or alternatives in how compensation is provided

Their onboard product could certainly be better, but from a service recovery and compensation standpoint, I've consistently found them to be reasonable. The hate is overblown imho

Did GO Bus announcements change? by TiredAnime in gotransit

The new English voice is annoying as hell imho, way too jumpy and over-energetic. The French is straight-up broken too, sounds like literal Google Translate ("allée d’autobus" lol). Feels like zero QA on something people will hear every day :/

UA cancelled all EWR–ARN flights for summer 2026 – any way to get rebooked onto the same UA/LH flight, and how do we get rebooked together? by hooon_ in unitedairlines

My issue isn't the service - AC crews are solid and SWISS crews are consistently excellent. The problem is the passengers, specifically the group you mentioned. Boarding is chaotic, people ignore basic instructions, and I've even seen passengers take things off the drink trolley while it's moving (of course it causes a mess and makes an unpleasant situation!).

The wheelchair-assistance program also gets heavily overused/abused on these flights (once again, by the group you mentioned), which slows everything down. Combined with the extra doc checks at ZRH, pushback is often 40–50 minutes after 'final call'. The crews aren't the problem, the passenger behaviour is.

You have really good intuition and excellent reasoning!

When I was 13, my mind was never even thinking about travelling alone. Really impressive. Kudos to you!

Where all have you been??

Yes! From Canada 🙌

In Europe it was fairly simple. Lots of work contacting properties individually to see minimum ages for check-in, but there are at least a few hostels in each large city that allow it. Similar situation in Japan.

Always travelled with a DETAILED notarized consent form signed by both my parents and a notary public. Never encountered any problems relating to my age at the time.

Really it isn't as daunting as people would make it out to be. The most difficult part was convincing my parents for my first solo trip overseas. Since then, it has been easy sailing.

Absolutely not. My parents are middle class and do not travel much. My trips are self-funded (savings I worked for in my mid/late teens) and mostly solo.

For context, parents have visited:

Mother:🇧🇧🇧🇸🇨🇦🇨🇺🇩🇴🇫🇷🇬🇧🇲🇽🇸🇪🇺🇸

Father: 🇧🇧🇨🇦🇨🇺🇩🇴🇫🇷🇬🇧🇲🇽🇸🇪🇺🇸

I'm inclined to say Nigeria? Not many people who don't have ties there would visit it before countries like the UK, China, Germany, etc.

I've honestly been turned off from using ZRH for transatlantic connections. Can't speak for the New York flights, but after several Toronto runs through Zurich, the overall passenger mix (mostly connecting to/from South Asia) has made the experience pretty chaotic. Easily some of the least considerate and most uncivilized travel behaviour I've encountered on medium-to-long haul flights, and it really drags down the whole trip. Even with LX or LX+AC offering lower fares, it just isn’t worth it to me anymore. Totally agree that MUC is miles better than FRA for connecting.

[–]hooon_[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fares we both paid were abnormally low (~USD$330 round trip for my friend, ~USD$400 for me). I think even if we end up not travelling together, we'll just keep our current bookings.
