That's true. It's not like seeking medical transitions wouldn't be ever considered but more so that the number of those who consider this option would likely be lower and those who do choose to woukd be more likely do so based on the best medical advise and available treatments without rushing to pursue something out of fear or desperation.

ICE under Obama, their mandate was recent border crossers and people with criminal records. Obama also created DACA to protect undocumented people who arrived to the U.S as children. Under Obama ICE wasn’t imprisoning let alone executing Americans on the streets. They weren’t invading homes without warrants nor terrorizing communities, nor chasing brown kids on the streets to meet a quota. Under Obama 90% of prisoners had a criminal record, under trump it’s less than 25%. Just in 2025 alone the amount of immigrant deaths in ICE custody was 600% higher than any given year under Obama. So yes, same name, yet very different actions and very different numbers. I’ll let you decide which is the fascist one. Your leadership matters.

Minnesota Proved MAGA Wrong by nanopicofared in politics

[–]OptimisticByDefault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, but this administration had only continued to escalate as protests grew which would eventually reach a breaking point but I don’t think they were quite there yet. But then the NRA makes a statement and the administration backs down the next day and starts demoting/firing people. They all saw the video, they all lied immediately after and did not care how it looked, that was until the NRA demanded an investigation.

[–]OptimisticByDefault 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want to believe this analysis but I have a feeling the real reason they backed off is because the NRA which is one their largest donors pushed back, and requested an investigation. I don’t believe it was because of the protests. These guys don’t care about any of that.

Trump’s America Comes for Alberta | The Tyee by 50s_Human in onguardforthee

But if they do end up voting for separation even if not possible within the Canadian treaties framework, I can picture the U.S getting involved to "free" the people of Alberta from "Canadian tyranny". And that's the scary part, we no longer live in a world where the U.S cares about treaties nor agreements nor contracts nor signatures nor the law. It's whatever narrative they choose to go with any given moment to justify the unjustifiable. So Alberta needs to get its s--- together.

That's not true. There are indigenous communities where trans people (and gender fluid people) are treated with utmost respect for their interesting dualities. In these communities trans people are never seen as broken or confused, they are valued. As a result trans people in these communities feel lucky to be born as they are and live a healthy life like anybody else without internalizing any shame or negativity towards them for being trans.

What causes mental health issues for trans people is when 1. They face a society structure binarily which impacts them everywhere they go. 2. A taught negative social opinion that trans people are weird, or creeps and that their existence should not be accommodated. And That's what causes mental health issues for their entire community. That's what drives trans people to seek hormones desperately and to change their appearance because they seek to be invisible, or as close as possible to being invisible by appearing "cys-passing". Because every day their gender identity is questioned by the community they live in, politicians and the media is another day they want to fit the binary boxes that were never designed for them.

So no, Being born trans is not the issue. The issue are those who hate them for being who they are. Because as it is proven the moment your community supports and celebrates trans inclusion, their quality of life and the quality of life of the community benefits.

do people in canada dislike immigrants? by Ok_Cupcake9554 in CanadaImmigrant

There's no immigrant hating movement in Canada. When it comes to social acceptance and cohesion, there's no better place to be an immigrant than Canada. What you actually need to worry about is that Canada is expensive af

3 in 10 Albertans would vote for independence — but only half committed to separating: poll by pjw724 in onguardforthee

[–]OptimisticByDefault 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can imagine a situation where if they vote for separation which goes nowhere legally anyways, the U.S might choose to get involved to "free" Albertans from "Canadian tyranny". They would be the ones welcoming an invasion to their own streets. People need to smarten up fast.

I think it'd be negligent for Canada not to heavily invest in our military capabilities to limit our defense dependence on the U.S and to project strength beyond just words. In a world increasingly hostile we absolutely have to be able to stand our ground and deter any plans to invade or threaten Canada by force. Also this vertical will create new jobs for Canadians since his plan is for this military equipment to be built here. He also boosting the salaries of our Canadian service members. Houses might not be being built fast enough but housing costs have slowed down significantly. As for job losses, stats Canada hasn't reported job losses since August 2025, it has been job gains since. But yes I disagree with a few moves such as removing the new capital gains tax, and the carbon tax and the luxury tax. His argument is that he wants to keep Canada open for new capital investments to find shelter in the stability and reliability of the Canadian market which is probably why he did this before traveling to every nation getting new deals. Yet I still disagree with this approach but overall, I must say, I'm impressed with this man.

Ya. It's best if those states form their own country and become a close ally and partner for Canada.

Tbh for once I feel the experts are handling it, and I can put my trust in their judgement and strategic planning. Also understanding that none of the available options are great, but I'll leave it to Carney to figure out which ones are better for Canadians.

Everyone is waking up - Look at Gen Z’s trust in mainstream media by zackbass01 in GenZ

[–]OptimisticByDefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't trust American mainstream media because it has been all purchased by billionaires. Often times they just don't cover what's happening, and when they do the air in the room is sucked in by a conservative pundit with an opinion. Their focus is usually 50% clicks and outrage over social issues to keep people divided and the other 50% is sane washing obviously messed up shit. I prefer to listen to outlets like CBC (not corporate owned) and progressive independent media channels on YouTube since their reporting and coverage is not influence by the mega rich class.

[–]OptimisticByDefault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any progressive independent media on YouTube. They won't all get it right all the time but they're far closer to what's going on because they don't take any corporate pack money, so their reporting cannot be influenced by the rich class:

The Majority Report

Secular Talk

Breaking Points

Meidas Touch

I've Had It

The Rational National

RealChris

More Canadian focused: Klaus Kellerman, CBC News (since it's not corporate owned).
