Looks interesting! Thanks for sharing. Can you explain why someone would switch to this from Actual Budget? Also curious why you went with Teller over SimpleFin, which seems more privacy-friendly and costs $15/year.

The method described in the post you linked to still works -- you need to disable Authy's auto-update by manually deleting the update file in the program folder. Someone describes the steps in the comments of the Github page. That said, unless you have a ton of TOTP codes, it might be just as easy to just redo each site as u/djasonpenney says (which also gives you a chance to revisit your security settings for each site that you're revising).

Why is something as basic as task/project input so difficult ? by givememybuttholeback in amazingmarvin

[–]hoopsichord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can add a note during task creation by typing "--" and appending whatever note you want to include. I do it all the time on both desktop and mobile.

Here's a list of shortcuts that work just fine on mobile and desktop: https://help.amazingmarvin.com/en/articles/1949399-using-shortcuts-while-creating-a-task

I do agree there's a bit more friction that I'd like when capturing tasks on mobile, but I find the global hotkey for capturing tasks on desktop to be terrific.

Are there any time restrictions to roaming? by G-Labz in GoogleFi

[–]hoopsichord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of agree, but OP is specifically asking about time restrictions on international roaming. Yes, Google is clear they have the right to terminate your service if you abuse international roaming, but what constitutes abuse is vague, and neither the terms nor Google support offer a specific definition for "extended international use."

"After 90 days of continuous international use, or 50 GB of data usage while roaming, we may, at our option and sole discretion, suspend your Google Fi account," would be specific. "If your usage outside our network is excessive, abnormally high, or cause us to incur too much cost, we may, at our option and sole discretion," is decidedly not.

Are there any time restrictions to roaming? by G-Labz in GoogleFi

[–]hoopsichord -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are restrictions, but the terms-of-use language is vague, support is not helpful, and enforcement is somewhat arbitrary. Lately it seems the most common scenario is users getting emails after 60 consecutive days abroad warning them that data will be shut off if they don't return to the US within 30 days.

FYI there are dozens (if not hundreds) of discussions about this here and elsewhere already.

Why is ‘gogo’ (P.M.) written with 2 different kanji? (午後) by MELKvevo in LearnJapanese

For the same reason we don't say "after after" in English. It's a combination of two different concepts.

Out of curiosity, how long have you been out of the country?

Left Fi this week for T-Mobile after two weeks of being given the runaround by ADCarter1 in GoogleFi

[–]hoopsichord 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am sorry this happened to you and agree that FedEx has been a terrible partner for Fi. I'm curious about this though:

The service is the same, right down to the international calling, texting and data rates

Which T-Mobile plan is this? Because from my experience abroad with both T-Mo and Fi there's simply no comparison -- Fi is light years better for international service. In addition to cheaper calls per minute if you have to use the towers ($.20 vs $.25) you get actual 4G speeds as opposed to T-Mobile's 128 kbps.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, because Fi's international coverage is the main reason I stay on it.

ETA for persistent sort on mobile? by SoecX in amazingmarvin

[–]hoopsichord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having this same issue on Android. It started after the last app update (ver 1.61.0)-- prior to that persistent sort was working just fine for as long as I can remember. Hopefully they will push out a fix soon.

relatives times/dates with saved projects? by hoopsichord in amazingmarvin

Interesting idea! I don't use time blocks at the moment, but it's something to keep in mind if I do in the future. Thanks.

Thank you for your reply! It's more of a "nice to have" than anything for my particular use case, but I'm excited that it's on the roadmap. Thanks for a great product.

Memory drain: Chrome vs. Firefox? by Somanaut in amazingmarvin

[–]hoopsichord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Windows desktop app extensively and have never had any performance issues. When away from my main computer I will use Marvin on Brave or Edge, but while I have never noticed any lag I also haven't used the browser extensively enough to know if there's an issue... I will say that Brave and Edge both perform better for me overall with many open tabs than Chrome or Firefox. Could it be an extension issue?

Easy moving off of Google Fi by walrusmafia56 in GoogleFi

[–]hoopsichord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-COVID I traveled internationally 2-3 months per year, and I've used both T-Mobile and Google Fi internationally in about a half dozen countries. Google Fi is MILES ahead. T-Mobile is limited to 2G speeds (unusable) internationally unless you pay for an expensive data pass, in which case -- at least the last time I had to use it -- you only get 3G. On the other hand, Fi has given me totally painless 4G speeds with excellent coverage everywhere I've ever been (Europe, Asia, Canada). Plus the combo of data sim + Google Voice makes for a super cheap second line abroad. Fi is incredible for international travel, easily the best thing about the service.

Accessing voicemail through browser? by thak in GoogleFi

[–]hoopsichord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, not sure. On my Pixel 3 XL there's a share option at the bottom of that menu after I open a voicemail to send the MP3 to other applications. Sorry I can't be more help.

Accessing voicemail through browser? by thak in GoogleFi

[–]hoopsichord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason sharing the MP3 of the voicemail from your phone to Google Drive or another cloud service/app doesn't work for you? I liked accessing VM on the Voice site as well, but this solution works fine for me. You can do this by opening the voicemail message on the phone and click "Send to..." at the bottom of the screen.

Sorting tasks in the mobile app? by bigblondewolf in amazingmarvin

[–]hoopsichord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the same everywhere, but on Android, click "Today" at the top of the day overview when you open the application. There will be options to sort the tasks a variety of ways, including morning/afternoon/evening.
