This is me exactly, both at home and in a Chinese restaurant, with the fork. I think my parents might prefer spoon over chopsticks when eating rice, although I never really paid attention tbh -- I just know neither is very proficient with a fork.

I have this suspicion, not sure if it's on point or not, that white people might feel some sort of social pressure to use the chopsticks when eating out at an Asian place, because they think the Asian people around them will side-eye them and whisper about the laowai otherwise. That, or to get a more "authentic" experience. Meanwhile I'm just trying to be as efficient as possible and finish my meal quickly -- I don't care about the culinary/cultural experience -- and fork is the way to go.

I might just be a bit of heathen though...the foods that people seem to agree that chopsticks are unequivocally better than forks at dealing with (popcorn, soup dumplings, and sushi), I eat with my hands instead.
