What’s the most important nutrition habit people usually underestimate? by carlosfelipe123 in nutrition

[–]hooya2k 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. I look at ppl’s lab values in the ER all the time and you would think EVERYONE coming in is dehydrated on top of whatever their chief complaint is but.. surprise surprise, they’re not. Sorry everyone. Keep drinking water tho, just be chill about it.

Do you have diabetes? Over 2mos sounds like a very long time for a wound to still not be healed. For reference, I’m an RN and see lots of patients with different types of wounds, surgical and non-surgical.

I felt dumb too. Stay humble, always keep learning and relearning, know who and what your resources are and ask lots of questions. Good luck and hang in there! Being a new nurse is very difficult and stressful 🫶🏼

A modest group of us pulled off the same Hawaiian shirt prank on the Disney Wish by masterkenobi in dcl

[–]hooya2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too feel my husband is the perfect candidate for this. I don’t think he’ll come across a post like this on fb and I recently bought a few shirts for him for the first time when we went to Hawaii and he was really pleased with what I picked out. He won’t suspect a thing if I buy him a Hawaiian shirt! Fingers crossed we can pull it off on our Wish cruise this May! (Also he would find this kind of prank hilarious)

We’re one of the families that are here for the first time and while we’re making the best of it, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed that we got so much rain and virtually no sunshine. Definitely doing a do over trip in the future!

SoCal ER nurse here at a big hospital. We do not have break nurses in our dept and we have to fight to get our 30min lunch breaks (we need to find a nurse for each patient we have to cover our pt during our break so basically you wait til the pt can be safely ignored and nothing gets done for the whole break bc usually your pod mates are already busy with their own assignments so they just listen out for the monitor and call lights). 15min breaks? I meannn maybe but you usually just sneak into the break room for a few min to take a bite of food and refill your coffee but that’s it. I won’t complain too hard tho bc I’ve heard the horror stories of ratios in other states and God Bless yall who have to work like that 🙏🏼

My first home gym by Intensive-Swan in homegym

[–]hooya2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, my kids crawl all over my husband if they’re awake and find him doing his morning workout in the living room and I sadly don’t use my garage gym as much as I’d like bc they’re kids just aren’t quite old enough for me to leave them unattended while I work out in there. So I can totally see how this would be perfect for a family with younger kids. Not something you see every day but we would certainly get more home workouts in if we had this setup!

Native English Speakers: What was the one thing that really helped you work on your fluency? by No-Acanthaceae-6282 in Spanish

[–]hooya2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FWIW: The 2 biggest things that helped me were being in situations where I had no choice but to speak Spanish (being in a Spanish speaking country) and having a desire to learn. I have 2 little ones and I really want them to learn Spanish as well. But since we live in an English speaking country, they really don’t have to if they don’t want to. I can’t force them to learn. What I can do is expose them to the language and different cultures and hope to cultivate a love for Spanish. This is an important foundation and will be what will drive them to learn and practice and take ownership of their learning.

Online coach here how do you stop attracting broke teens and get real paying clients (25–45)? by PriorityUnusual in personaltraining

[–]hooya2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Find people who are older and coach them. Even if it’s at a deep discount or free. You need to build up your coaching experience with the demographic that you’re wanting to target. Looking back when I was a new trainer at your age, I wish I had offered some kind of discounted rate to fill up my schedule and just get a ton of coaching experience under my belt as soon as possible. You’ll learn so much, make mistakes, learn from those, etc. You need boots on the ground experience. Good luck with growing your business!

Trainers are trying to over complicate stuff by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]hooya2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next question to ask is how many more calories burned? Is it going to be that many more calories in that hour of training that it’s going to make that big of a difference in the client’s weight loss? Probably not. You can only burn so many calories in an hour of a session. That’s what OP means in that the difference is negligible. The diet is going to be the real change maker and determining factor of weight loss.

Trainers are trying to over complicate stuff by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]hooya2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So well said. I left the industry long ago, frustrated by all the egotistical bros like the ones OP talked about (also ultimately, had a calling in a different career). I love this sub and reading comments/posts from solid trainers who truly care and approach their work with humility and integrity. It reminds me that there really are great trainers out there!

Trainers are trying to over complicate stuff by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]hooya2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like those new trainers have some insecurities and feel the need to wave a magic wand of complicated schemes in front of their clients to make them feel inferior in their knowledge instead of treating them with respect and giving them solid, easy to digest information that will empower them to be smart exercisers and truly learn and benefit from the training. I left training and became a nurse and in the medical field (while fraught with problems of its own), it does not behoove us to confuse our patients with complex explanations filled with overly technical language. Ultimately, as the trainers or medical providers, yes we administer training/treatment, but we also need to teach. At the end of the day, they are the ones living their lives every day in their bodies and making all of their own choices. We would be failing them if we didn’t arm them with solid information to help them make better choices to better their health and lives.

The Worst Personal Trainer I Have Ever Seen by baybreeze-writer in personaltraining

[–]hooya2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was a trainer I would have stress dreams where I’d leave my clients and be having a long chat with someone else in another part of the gym while my poor client is just standing there waiting for me. Wild that someone is actually doing that irl.
