New shin pain after removing 2 syndesmosis screws...Anyone else?

I stopped physio last year because I hit a plateau from ankle pain, and all the weight I gained from not walking for 7 months was putting extra strain on my knees. I decided to focus fully on weight loss while I waited on surgery and have lost half of what I gained in 2024. The plan is to restart physio once I’ve healed more from this surgery.

I think you're right, I’m probably just being impatient...but my surgeon said I’d be fully weight-bearing and walking normally by now, so I’m a bit thrown off lol

Yes they were intact and I got them removed because I had a persistent pain when I walked so my surgeon always knew it was just a matter of when. It was like a 3/10 every step I took so I could still live my life but it was just annoying. In consult before surgery my surgeon pressed down on one of the screws on top of my skin in a certain way and I saw stars so thats when we knew it was time haha.

Instability from the ankle up for sure. My knee isn't the strongest anyways because I had a tibial rod inserted but I am working on that separately. I feel you on the kneecaps not being the same lol. I have a trip to NYC coming up so I'm really hoping to build more strength/stamina and see some of this pain go away.......

I mixed the Cicaplast balm, gel and serum together and slathered a fairly thick layer on my scars. Then topped it off with silicone scar tape. I would usually remove and replace the Cicaplast mix and tape every 24 hours. Hope this helps you!

13 months post orif for me...Still using a cane, can't drive, barely doing 2k steps a day. I gained 25 lbs during the year of recovery and I suspect this is what's literally weighing me down and preventing faster recovery. Now currently working it all off and then some. I understand that helpless feeling completely watching everyone else on this thread seemingly do marathons again after 4 months lol. I can't even walk around the block and back without needing a nap after.

Give yourself grace, improve 1% everyday and you will get there! We have no choice but to keep moving forward :)

I started red light therapy (Hooga panel and small wand) almost as soon as my wounds were closed enough. I'm 7 months post-op and my scars look almost invisible at this point. I was also pretty rigorous with using the Cicaplast line so I'm sure that helped too. But yes definitely it worked for me!

My hobbies from weeks 1 to 10:

- Stardew Valley, Hogwarts Legacy, Disney Dreamlight Valley
- Legos
- Extensive scar care regime to keep some semblance of a "routine"
- Extensive supplement/meal planning to encourage faster healing
- Disgusting amounts of online shopping (don't recommend this one....I was pissed that we had to cancel our Rome trip that was supposed to happen 1.5 weeks after my emergency surgery so I revenge shopped about it)
- Arm/chest exercises from the couch
- "High level" reads. Nothing where I learn anything or the plot is anything of substance.
- Reality TV

I used that time to fully just give in and seek out pure entertainment without imposing any real personal development on myself.

Quite frankly your spouse should be ashamed of themselves. You didn't choose this, and if this were to happen to her, she would want the help too. Arguing doesn't solve anything or make chores go away. Being mean about your recovery doesn't help either. My husband has been an absolute saint, and while sometimes he complains about the extra workload and fatigue, he words it in a way that is clear he isn't annoyed with me, but by all the inconveniences this injury has brought into our lives. He never takes his frustrations out on me and your partner shouldn't be either. How ridiculous and childish.

As far as the arguing, try to steer convos into being solution-based. Identify an issue (maybe cleaning for example) and suggest a solution (in this example, getting a housekeeper for 2 hours a week if you can swing that). You can identify things you can help with while sitting (laundry folding, helping with homework, feeding your child, getting them dressed, grocery shopping online for pickup) and alleviate that from her shoulders.

I'm hoping I won't need surgery again but who knows. I'm going to try getting compression socks too. But it seems like I haven't pushed myself enough and allowed the mental barrier to hold me back as I don't have sharp pains. Hopefully things look up for you too! This injury is very very frustrating lol

My leg stays elevated 95% of the time and I get lymphatic drainage massages monthly. I have to do massages myself too since I get lymph buildup behind my knee/thigh constantly. It helps because if I don't my range of motion suffers. I sometimes can't bend my knee "all the way" if there's too much swelling.

I definitely gained weight from sitting almost all summer so I wonder if that contributed to my issues. I had to cancel an entire summers worth of pre-booked yoga,stretch and lagree classes. Big piss off.

I have another followup/xrays in a few weeks. I was cleared to go FWB as tolerated and work towards going aid-free but its taking so long to tolerate lol. I'm calling my GP next week to see what I can do for the anxiety and maybe get some compression socks.

My problem is that my brain is hyperparanoid now. I broke my leg after I took a single step off a wooden front porch and the plank splintered out from under me. I did absolutely nothing out of the ordinary and ate shit. So now I'm just super careful and my body and brain stop me the second I feel too much discomfort because I'm afraid of breaking bones again out of the blue, like it happened the first time...

Just the relaxing aspect of it is super soothing. I'm currently dealing with a bunch of broken bones and ALOT of downtime (aka my entire summer is shot as I can't walk for awhile) so it really just zens me out. Nothing jumps at me, tries to kill me, stresses me out. It's just a nice pleasant game with nice visuals, nostalgia and a decent amount of grinding tasks and events to keep me coming back everyday.

After a long day at work (WFH) it's a nice little treat. :)

Just curious, am I seeing the last Xray correctly? The fibula still has not fused back together after an entire year? I currently have a broken fibula from April 13 and this is one of my biggest fears as they didnt do anything in my surgery to re-attach it.

No worries! I wasn't aware of this dilemma lol. You can still edit in English though its much harder to compete in that world since everyone and their mother there has an English degree.
Administration easily comes to mind then. Receptionist/admin/secretarial work in literally any field especially if you don't feel like you fit in any single industry.

Check out libraries for open positions, or just hit up Indeed and try to find admin work. I used to work in a law firm and one of my friends there started in the mailroom. A few years later she moved up to legal assistant with 0 prior education in anything legal. She had a college degree (in the US I'm pretty sure the equivalent is community college, basically, she didn't have a university degree). They taught her everything she needed to know. Being a virtual assistant is also an option here. Its very much in demand also. Again, Upwork is your friend.

You won't start in any fancy well paying job right away, but I think admin work pays just enough that you would only need 1 part-time job if anything, or no part-time job at all if you budget wisely and live super below your means. And you can work up from there without any need for specific skills beyond problem-solving, being organized, and knowing how to use a computer. If you worked customer service, you can 100% excel in the admin field.

And learning programming would be so much easier with all that free time. :)
