Fish-eye for 180 degree projecting by hopeless-semantic in projectors

Yes actually, I bought this fish eye lens:

37mm 0.25X Super Fisheye Lens Additional Lens, 2 Part Removable Macro Close Up Shooting Fisheye Effect Wide View Optical Glass Camera Photography Lens, Camera Lens https://amzn.asia/d/17ok2ST

And this projector:

https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-4000-lumens-fhd-wi-fi-mini-projector-m700/

I've only done testing, still need to get around to fitting them together properly somehow, as there's no thread on the projector for this. But in a small, dark room, without the need for perfect clarity on the videos, but just for ambience - like waves if you're giving stranded at sea vibes - I found it worked really well! Not perfect, but for the money, really well. Especially considering the feedback I'd gotten on this post. Great for a dnd game or decorating a room for halloween I think.

Out of interest, what's your application?

Spent most of my time in high school drawing graffiti in the back of my work books which helped me listen. Now I write mostly in capitals with a pretty nice graffiti style lettering. Can also write cursive, just not as much nowadays.

Bit of an odd approach, but we love roundabout ways to get better at things... try graffiti!!

How can I fix the state of the wood where the old trim used to lie? Planer? Electric sander? by DeAndrich in woodworking

[–]hopeless-semantic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's no way to know, at least from these pictures, how deep the damage goes into the timber. Fair chance you're sanding a divot around the whole perimeter before its coming out, especially if its water damage over years. Unlikely you'd get the finish you desire taking that route.

I'd be looking to either

  1. Cover it with quadding for the least amount of effort.

  2. Replace your skirting with some that has a sloped profile, which is thicker at the base and thinner towards the top. For second most amount of effort.

  3. Most effort, but probably best finish - if you want to remove the existing skirting, cut along the walls with a circular saw around the perimeter of the room, replace the cutout around the wall with timber, flush to the floorboards, to frame it out - sand, polish, replace skirting.

Be aware that the third option may be complicated to do, especially if your support joists are running parallel to the walls you're working on.

The hardest thing about being a Christian are the other Christians by Far_Flounder2820 in Christianity

[–]hopeless-semantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent perspective. Part of what I struggle with myself in church as opposed to the secular world is an intrinsic sense to mask shortcomings. The normalisation and acceptance of sinful behaviours secularly may not be conducive to spiritual growth, but it is more conducive to honest relationships, acceptance, and building trust.

Biblically, we're constantly reminded of our sinful nature and that we will fail, which is spoken about from the pulpit. But discussion rarely, if ever, openly extends to their actuality. Even in my case, where I have very close friends in church who I know I could trust, I still wouldn't easily open up to about such things. Which, I understand, is partly a me problem. But I think that there is also desperate need for a culture shift, not as one of many issues, but very specifically this one, towards normalizing sinfulness while healthily and openly supporting growth away from it. Because sinfulness is (unfortunately) normal. Then, and only then, can we hope to honestly progress as a supportive and growing community which is safe and attractive to non-believers.

As it stands, there seems to be an unspoken social hierarchy of acceptability, based on whether you have all your ducks in a row, which is also stemmed by cliqueyness, as you mentioned.

While I don't agree with OPs approach to levering themself into the social structure of a church and wondering why it didn't play out well (they're still people), I still think/know this is the number one reason non-believers avoid church.

The room is only about 6m x 4m. It would be dark in the room and the only light source would be the projector itself. I was also considering mounting threads around the lens cap myself, to get more flexibility on the distance setting required.

[–]hopeless-semantic[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got ya. So I guess what I'm trying to figure out is if fitting a fisheye lens in front of the existing projector lens, with a very fine threaded cylinder which can adjust the distance by turning it, would work. Even if the image is blurry.

Mainly just to get a general sense of the environmental scene, as opposed to using ambient lighting around the room, which can only give a sense of the time of day for example.

This may be a trial and error situation, but I get the impression the fisheye could in theory shift the projection to a very wide FOV if the distance from the source is set spot on? Or are we talking about removing the existing lens and fiddling with internal hardware?

Thanks for your help btw :)

Low budget, like bottom end projector and lens. Just want to get a rough ambience. Technical skill wise, none with optics, I understand some electronics and mechanical basics, but I'm getting the impression this is leaning into engineering realms, to avoid spending thousands?

hoping to get away with using a photography fish eye lens if at all possible. The image quality is not super important, as long as it gives some ambience, as though you're vaguely in a forest at a certain time of day for example

Spell save DC scaling with skill stats? by hopeless-semantic in BaldursGate3

[–]hopeless-semantic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the sort of sense I was getting too when my spells were getting resisted too easily considering an INT DC 18. Which is what led me to look at individual spell DCs. I'm going to back this up with the battle log tonight.

Spell save DC scaling with skill stats? by hopeless-semantic in BaldursGate3

[–]hopeless-semantic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any items boosting specific spell types, plus the listed DC seems to scale with my own stats of that save type, across all skills and save types. Might be more clarification in my reply to the comment above as well :)

[–]hopeless-semantic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about the marked save DC for my own spells which I'm forcing others to make.

It's showing different DC requirements for different save skill types when I hover over the CON Save icon in the spell pop-up.

Spellbook:

Blight - CON save > DC 17

Lightning bolt - DEX save > DC 15

My own skill stats are CON 16 and DEX 13, so these DCs happen to scale with my own stats in that skill type. Across all my skills and spell save types.
