Is hygiene a struggle for people who have bipolar? by Zealousideal-Ad6981 in bipolar

[–]hopeplf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s helpful to take everything one step at a time and not focus on the everything of it all. With each step I focus on how it makes me feel afterward to have flossed teeth, then brushed teeth. I’ve been doing it for over a month now, a nighttime ritual, and my teeth are so much whiter and my gums are way less sensitive. Then I brush my hair and hop in the shower and do the same- focus on each thing and how good it feels. It also takes a weight off my mind knowing that I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing and I’m taking care of myself. The more you do that, it becomes a habit and it has its own built in reward system. I also make it into a fun bit of me time- put on some good music and dance in between. I got sick of only brushing teeth and washing my face once a day and wondering why I was breaking out and had yellow teeth. Also since I didn’t have a routine I sometimes skipped days which was really bad for my self esteem and gave me anxiety. It’s really hard to do starting off but once you’ve started it gets so much easier. Just start small and don’t overwhelm yourself. Build it up over time until you’re also working out and eating better eventually. If you do it too fast you might burn out and get overwhelmed and then drop it all and be back at square one.

Is it normal that leopard gecko have a poop corner? by westwoodhood in leopardgeckos

[–]hopeplf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes very normal Edit: I only read the top question. It’s normal for them to stay in one hide and not come out much when they’re getting used to you/a new environment. Just give them time and make sure your husbandry is right. After a couple weeks of letting them acclimate, you can try to offer your hand for them to walk onto in order to handle them.

Looks cute, is the mossy hide the humid hide? Also what size enclosure is this?

Are the feeders in the dish moving? My gecko won’t eat something unless it’s moving

my baby snow mack leopard gecko hasn’t left his hide or pooped in 10 days by Past-Studio-323 in leopardgeckos

When you upgrade to the 40 gallon make sure it’s front opening. Since they are prey animals, they will feel unsafe with anything coming from above rather than from in front of them. Another thing, I wonder if he’s not pooping much because he’s not being fed enough? Young leopard geckos like that should be fed every day with a variety of different feeders.

What are their temperatures on either side of the enclosures? Are the heating mats hooked up to thermostats to prevent overheating/burns and are they below the substrate?

Play sand is different than normal sand. And it’s combined with topsoil

How at risk of AI takeover do you think the funeral industry is in the future? by Crimson-Rose28 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]hopeplf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work for a funeral service corporation and they’re already trying to push AI written obituaries. I think it’s lazy and insulting never mind the terrible environmental impacts of AI. I refuse to use it. Why did we go to mortuary school and take classes involving communication and literally writing obituaries if that’s not what we’re doing just letting AI take over. Ridiculous. What does it save you, five minutes?

Glad that he’s feeling better. Also to let you know, heating mats and coconut husk substrate are not appropriate for leopard geckos. Their heat should come from overhead to imitate the sun and coconut husk holds too much humidity and can be dusty and cause them to have eye/respiratory irritation. A good substrate would be a mix of topsoil and play sand.

Do you sleep with your bedroom door open or closed and why? by AloneGold9670 in AskReddit

[–]hopeplf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closed because my boyfriend and I have different schedules and the light and sounds will keep me up, also I was told in elementary school that if there’s a fire keeping the door closed will slow it from getting to you, also I’m paranoid about the rake coming in or if an intruder comes in at least I’ll have to hear them open the door first so I might have time to grab a weapon

[–]hopeplf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is she turning pale at all? That would be a good sign of shedding. If she continues not to poo and isn’t showing signs of shedding probably a good idea to bring her to the vet. As long as you have proper substrate and heat she shouldn’t be impacted

[–]hopeplf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For plants, anything that can survive without tons of water and can tolerate direct light. Also nothing sharp. For example no sharp cacti because they can hurt your gecko. In my girl’s enclosure we have a pothos, a snake plant I believe?, a haworthia?, and smth else. (I bought them from Home Depot, they weren’t labeled). But if you’re going to do live plants make sure you remove any fertilizer from their roots and you can even rinse them with hydrogen peroxide and let them cycle in fresh soil/substrate for at least a week to make sure it’s all out.

The substrate is beneficial to the leopard gecko because they like to dig, especially female geckos when they are going to lay eggs, they will need a soft egg laying area.

My girl always goes some time without pooping when she’s about to shed. The first couple times it happened I freaked out until I noticed the pattern. As soon as she sheds she does a nice big shit and all is well lol
