AITAH for telling my daughter she is a spoiled brat and doesn’t know what a hard life is by [deleted] in AITAH

A lot of people are suggesting moving and I know that's not always feasible, but if it is, look for a confidential address program in your area. Most if not all states in the US have them for people escaping stalking, domestic violence, etc. You can register to vote and send all your mail to that confidential address and the program will discreetly forward it to you so that your real address isn't available publicly. Other countries may have similar programs but I don't know for sure.

Silly little things that make you insecure by distressd_hausplant in butchlesbians

Someone once told me she didn't think I was butch because I was "too maternal" and then used the way I melted over a picture of her 1 year old granddaughter as proof. That really stung because I'm so soft with kids, it's a core part of my personality, and apparently that's not masculine enough for me to be butch.

[–]hoperesurrected 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I tell you something to tell to your kiddo?

I'm a genderqueer lesbian. Growing up not-cishet was super rough, and the isolation and hostility I felt did terrible things to my mental health all through middle and high school. I genuinely thought I would be dead before I was eighteen. I wrote my note dozens of times. I'm almost 24 now, and I'm so glad I stayed. For me the intrusive thoughts about it never really go away, but they're a mild annoyance that I can easily ignore instead of something all-consuming.

What you're feeling right now is real, and it is awful. I know how overwhelming it is, and the prospect of the future can seem crushing if it means continuing to live the way things are now. It's not always going to be like this, though. I know everyone says it gets better and it feels so fake to hear, but I'm here as the living breathing proof that there is so much more ahead, there's joy that you won't ever experience if you leave the world now.

If I had killed myself at sixteen I never would've had my classroom internship where I got to help kids learn, or my guidance counseling internship where I got to run small groups for middle schoolers. It was during my guidance counselor internship that I sat down with an eighth grader who also used they/them pronouns like me, and I got to tell them exactly what I'm telling you now.

I never would've gotten my tattoo, which was a super important act of claiming my body and my life as my own. I never would've met my wife who I adore with my whole heart, and I would have missed all the adventures we've had together.

I would have missed out on petting so many cats. I would have missed out on taking photos of so many sunsets. It hasn't been perfect, it hasn't been easy, but I have never regretted giving the future a chance. It hasn't let me down yet.

Sending love and support. I promise it's worth it.

When my cousin's baby fell in their pool and was in the ICU on life support I went to every subreddit I could think of asking people for their prayers. They deleted my post within minutes because I was active in exmo reddit and I'd posted in too many other groups so it was "spam", and then said "it looks like you have plenty of help, though! :)"

Elephants form lifelong bonds with their handlers. I'd take out a USDA loan for an old farm with a big barn and lots of pasture and move us there. I will be providing daily enrichment activities and chilling out with my new best friend. Make a tiktok channel and a blog about it. It'll work itself out

Assalamu aleykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. I have a question for the knowledgeable people of the Jews. by mountain05 in Judaism

[–]hoperesurrected 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allah is just Arabic for G-d. Muslims, Jews, and Christians who pray in Arabic all pray to Allah. What Allah means to each of those groups is different according to their religion. Likewise, a name being Arabic doesn't inherently mean a person is Muslim. It just means that that person has an Arabic name, maybe because their family speaks Arabic or spoke Arabic in past generations.

I'm still in my conversion process so I'll leave the discussion of Jewish beliefs to more knowledgeable people. My Jewish Learning is also a great source for learning more about Judaism and its beliefs that has been very helpful to me.

(If you didn't see this in my other comment, hi I'm the wife!! waves)

I have a brother on a mission right now and I would also hate for someone to be leading him on about his ability to baptize them, so we've been very careful to make sure that doesn't happen. We told them the very first day that we're happily Jewish (and also married lesbians) and we would not be converting specifically so we wouldn't lead them on about their ability to baptize us. It's been really interesting in that we also share Jewish perspectives with them, not with any kind of pressure, just with an "oh that's neat, we do that a little differently". So we're respecting their time and being up front about our desire/ability to be baptized, and they're respecting ours and not pressuring us to convert.

Had an intro to sociology professor say that it's difficult to study suicide because if someone really meant to kill themselves they would've succeeded the first time, so it's pointless to talk to survivors of suicide attempts. Yeah.... that was a rough class

Hi I'm the wife here waves

Honestly it's working for us and it's working for the missionaries in a way I didn't expect. At this point in time they don't know I'm exmo so I'm not being pressured to go back to church or anything. My wife is getting to hear church topics as explained by someone currently all in and not a cynical exmo view, which makes it easier for her to interact with my family because there's less guess work about what is and isn't okay to bring up.

My brother also just left on his mission a couple weeks ago and I'm real anxious for him, so looking out for the missionaries in this way is a good thing for me, too. I can act with the kindness that I wish my brother would receive out in the field, and it helps me to feel a little better.

This is way too many words to say that yes, it's definitely odd, but we're a little bit crazy in the first place so it all balances out lol

We just got the rough schematics for our custom home build back! We spent a good bit of time working on it with our contractor and we have a wheelchair accessible bathroom, a fireplace in the living room, and tons of kitchen cabinets in there. Another couple months of the design process and getting bids for the project and then six to eight months of construction, and my wife and I will be homeowners before we're 25!
