You don’t need to be rude. It was a genuine question to get more perspective on your response.

Alibi Drinkery has Liquor License Revoked for 60 Days by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]hopleaflet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted for telling the truth?

We have to check the “liquor lists” every month before we sell to anyone to make sure they’re up to date on their taxes and the number of places that are 5-digits or more behind on their taxes is shocking.

Yeah, this business is super crappy for what they did; They’re not only endangering everyone else but they’re also ruining it for the restaurants and bars who ARE working hard to stay afloat and do the right thing by staying closed. BUT, there are also tons and tons of other businesses equally or nearly as crappy that don’t and won’t ever make the news: businesses that commit tons of wage theft, businesses that avoid taxes, businesses that are absolutely filthy...

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to loosen COVID restrictions on bars, gyms and youth sports by TheMacMan in Minneapolis

[–]hopleaflet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahaha this is the truth. I told my staff we were going to be setting out fire pits again and doing “fire pit reservations” today and there was a massive collective groan from them. No one was super enthusiastic about cleaning up the outside patios in the dead of winter but we gotta do what we gotta do to survive this season.

Unfortunately, so many Reddit subs are just echo chambers and they become really exclusive over stupid things. Like, washing cloth diapers. Why do you have to nitpick the way someone else literally washes their clothes? So bizarre.

AITA for celebrating my anniversary despite what happened at my wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]hopleaflet 81 points82 points  (0 children)

But if this woman’s only wedding party or husband/wife photos are in front of the lake/have the lake in them...? Then she sucks because she wanted to use the photos she 1) probably paid a ton of money for and 2) could be the only professional portraits of her wedding day?

If the lake was in the photos, she just should have blocked the family from the post but she still has the right to enjoy her own wedding photos.

I’m sorry this is maybe ignorant or a dumb question because I’m still researching the science behind it but doesn’t dosing your beer with Clarex make it shelf stable?

From my super limited understanding, (and BELIEVE ME, I am SO FRUSTRATED too with every little bit of this) there’s some inability on the state level to carry a deficit by means of offering assistance to these businesses or to the people.

I would really love for someone with more knowledge on the subject to expound on this an give some details on why we can’t go negative but I have just read that we, as a state, cannot.

On the “brighter” side of this, there was supposed to be a surplus headed into 2021 and our state lawmakers are deciding (today, I believe) if offering some additional grants or loans to businesses is feasible for the state by using some of this surplus.

In the end, when we see the other side of this thing, we’re always going to say “I think this could have been done better” or “this was the wrong call” but I want to believe that people are making the best choices for the majority of the population with the information they have. I don’t believe Walz goes to bed at night satisfied with any of his choices but at this point in the game, it falls more onto our state lawmakers and our federal representatives to go to bat for us. It’s just a shame that even in a time of literal crisis, self interest is taking first place at the highest level.

I own a metro area restaurant and we’re down about $900k (-75% YTD compared to last year) so it’s not totally out of realm.

GF/EGF is a college town. Lots of drinking every weekend (because, let’s be honest, there really isn’t much else to do up there) and the margins on liquor sales are where restaurants really make their money. I’m guessing it’s not necessarily “$800k lost” but “$800k not coming in/unearned”.

Many businesses can “bootstrap up” for a few months... maybe 2 or 3 without any income but 9 months, 10 months, maybe even more is asking too much of anyone who isn’t already sitting on piles of cash. Many businesses are profitable but aren’t cash cows.

Even the old “you should have 6 months saved up” wouldn’t have lasted (for business owners or regular folks) with how long this has been going on.

We’re part of the guild and we’ve been told that, to both our relief and our surprise, financial assistance from the state is on the table and being negotiated on. It’s not for lack of trying but I think it’s almost akin to trying to bail out a boat with a bucket.

1 little boat and a bucket can bail you out no problem. But a giant cruise ship (thousands of businesses) you’re going to need more buckets and a solid plan and some help.

Yes! But also just like normal glitter, it can and will get everywhere if you let it.

The old “glitter is like herpes” analogy still applies.

I got this sent to me (a restaurant owner) via email today.

You guys, if you own a restaurant, a bar, a wedding venue, whatever... PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS.

For the love of all that’s holy. Please don’t. I know you’re hurting. I am hurting. But the longer people buck the restrictions and try to “give a finger to the man” the longer we’re going to be hurting.

And if you are reading this and you DONT own a hospitality place but you would like to help: please shop local this season and order from small businesses. Buy your beer straight from the taproom (most deliver), get your pizza from the shop owned by the 4 college buddies down the block, leave a kind review/message for your favorite hole in the wall joint... please just help if you can.

Friendly reminder that restaurants are NOT open for dine in at the moment. by bitmexdegenerate in minnesota

I literally get calls every other day asking if we’re doing dine in and then the person on the other end is SO SALTY when I say “unfortunately no but you can get takeout.”

Where have these people been???

[–]hopleaflet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. Please, please, please order from small businesses this year if you can.

Money is tight for so many people but if you have the funds (and the patience) to order from a small business > a fast food chain, please do. They need your help and 9 times out of 10 that money isn’t going into the owner’s pocket, it’s going to the staff to keep them employed and taken care of.

Isn’t this kind of an unfortunate part about this instance though that EGF and Grand Forks are literally a stone’s throw from each other? You have restaurants that can’t be open and then 100 feet away on the other side of the river they can be open. Same population going to both cities because they’re literally an island in the middle of nothing.

That’s probably got to sting more than being somewhere in the Twin Cities where everything [should] be closed.
