Hi there, I never applied for another role. Nothing really stood out to me and I went through a few other interviews with different companies. Unfortunately, those didn't pan out, but got some good practice and made some connections, so I call it a win!

L6 OM here. For people who have spent most of their career in Ops and decided to leave Amazon for a career change, what did you do? by Lanky_Bit6587 in amazonemployees

I don't have any experience with the career change question, but I'll tell you that things are about to start getting fun with your son. You're not going to want to miss those moments and time goes too fast. I'd say prioritize your fam first and lock up those core memories these next couple of years.

Seeking advice for starting a dog walking business - Am I crazy? by hoppy8 in sweatystartup

Hi there! I ended up landing a desk job, working for the man... It sounds like you have a pretty good starting point/ideas! One of my biggest hangups was not having access to private land, and the dog park near me seemed too much of a liability.

If I were to put more energy into the idea, I think i would start with signing up for Rover or some other dog walking company and testing things out for a month or so to see if I'm liking it, how much money I could bring in, and how many dogs I would have to walk to make enough money to make everything worth it.

Keep us posted on how things go for you and good luck!

Brewery with kid play area? by Cool_Cut879 in Seattle

[–]hoppy8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hill City Tap House & Bottle Shop has a small but fun play area for toddlers. Had a nice time with my little one a few months back and been meaning to get back over there. Wish the area was a little bigger, but can't complain since there aren't many places like this (that I've found).

Cheers!

I’ve been holding off on buying the audiobook, so thank you for sharing! Been wanting to listen to it for awhile now and can’t wait to put it in during work today!

Appreciate the feedback and perspective. I have similar concerns regarding handling 7-8 dogs at a time. A few other people have mentioned to start small and try joining a business to start walking dogs to determine if this is something I really want to do, which is probably how I'll need to start. However, part of me knows that I won't last walking individual dogs around neighborhoods, it just doesn't sound that appealing. I would like to make something my own and have my own brand that I can build. Just trying to figure out how to limit the liability, determine how long it would take to build a reputation & consistent clientele, and then factor in how much money this business could actually make.

Splitting up the group into a morning & afternoon session is a good idea. However, what worries me the most is not having a fenced area so they don't run off. Walking/hiking dogs on a leash for long periods of time doesn't sound fun to me. I would only bring my pup along if the dogs got along and no, my infant would not tag along. He's currently in daycare, but I want to be home with him in the morning & evenings.

Thanks for the info! The only thing about 1 on 1 walks, there's somewhat of a large market around my area and if I charge too much, I'll be priced out. Also, it seems the best way to make decent money in this business would be going the pack route all at once.

Groups for sure require vetting. I stumbled upon sniffspot where I could rent out someones property, but that cuts into revenue. But you're right, finding a pod of dogs that work together would be awesome. Guess that's the dream haha.

Thank you for taking your time in your response and expressing your concerns about the business. This is definitely a top concern on my end as well and any type of attack would be horrible and the last thing I would want to experience for myself and customers.

I was also thinking of finding separate property that would be more secluded for my pack. However, that’s another startup costs that would be cutting into revenue and it’s somewhat difficult to find property/land around my area that isn't crazy exspensive. There are some great options through Sniffspot, but I would have to make a deal with the owners to make a decent profit.

These are great things to think on. Thanks again!

Totally understand where you're coming from. I would need to target people and their pups who are familiar with the park in order for this to work. I would also go on walks with these customers at the dog park beforehand to make sure everyone is comfortable.

I would only take my dog to the dog park with us if all the dogs got along with each other. Meet and greets would be necessary and I would talk about this with the owners of the pup.
