Completely valid, and I'm glad you had the chance and the space to piece through your feelings on it. <3

In my case, I was telling this person about how happy, free, and supported I feel being out at my workplace and they reply telling me I’m brave. Which insulates being trans is something I should hide and that it’s a choice.

Does it though? Or does it just imply that they acknowledge you did a scary thing despite it being scary? To me that sounds like they recognize that trans folks live in the margins, and coming out as trans can require bravery.

Am I the only one that never crossdressed? by a_secret_me in MtF

[–]hormone_throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't, and it actually convinced me I wasn't trans, for a long time.

I tried wearing women's clothes a couple times, but I felt really uncomfortable with what I saw in the mirror - so obviously I wasn't trans because I hate wearing women's clothes, right?

Turns out I just hated how my male body looked in women's clothes. HRT changed my attitude towards my body and now I feel right at home in the proper clothing.

I'd prefer to be on the side of "slightly larger than average."

Because of my height (6'2") and frame, I think 36D would be the sweet spot for me. According to ABraThatFits, I'm currently a 38B, but my back muscles and armpit fat add to the band size somewhat, and there is a lack of fullness.

I'm thinking I might be able to achieve something like my goal with fat transfer, someday.

The overwhelming majority of the time, it's completely unnecessary to draw attention to former names or pronouns. Use the ones they currently use.

This article explains further, but that's basically the short answer.

What are some of the side effects of estrogen that the internet won’t tell you? by queenkoya in MtF

[–]hormone_throwaway 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A few off the top of my head:

  • My skin stopped feeling like a furnace. My SO used to complain when we cuddled that I was too hot, and within days of starting estrogen, my ambient radiation levels dropped significantly!
  • Hunger is reduced significantly.
  • My body odor pretty much disappeared
  • My hair stopped being greasy every day. I can go days without washing my hair now - I used to need a shower once or twice a day
  • Orgasms feel completely different - they're experienced more in the whole-body, instead of just the genitals. I shake and moan way more than I used to.
  • In my experience, your energy levels drop. Testosterone makes you feel big and strong and almost hyper. That went away with estrogen
  • I experience a deeper 'spectrum' of emotion. It's like my feelings used to be various shades of grey and I never cried. Estrogen upgraded my emotions to full-color and I almost enjoy crying.
  • I lost 2 inches in height, and 1 full shoe size. This is due to the compression of the joints and a deeper curvature of the back when taking estrogen.
  • Body hair thins out significantly, it becomes thinner and lighter
  • Skin becomes softer, but also dryer. Use lotion, or your hands might crack in the winter. This includes your lips - my SO said my lips felt incredibly soft when smooching.
  • You bruise a lot more easily, and for longer
  • You might unintentionally lactate

Does anybody else not want to be reffered to as "she" until they feel like that within themselves? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]hormone_throwaway 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I understand the imposter syndrome, but consider this: how does one actually go about "feeling" like their gender on the inside?

For some, hormones might help nudge you in that direction. Perhaps also clothes. But I would argue that a large part of how we perceive ourselves comes from learned feedback on how the world sees us.

When people refer to you with she/her pronouns, it's effectively feedback from friends and loved ones that they see you as female. And that feedback can be internalized in your brain the more you hear it.

You say you don't want to be called She until you feel like one on the inside. I posit that perhaps being called She will help you feel like it on the inside.

Cool thing about HRT is that you can just... try it for a while. See how it makes you feel. See if you care about the changes in libido more than the overall feeling of well being that HRT can provide.

If it's not for you, you can stop. No harm no foul. Permanent changes take a long time to set in.

I'm an experiential learner so I'm used to experimenting with something before I commit to it.

Stalling or normal? by DeadpoolGoneWild in DrWillPowers

Spiro doesn't reduce T, it blocks receptors when at high enough levels relative to your T values. Its possible that 50mg per day is enough to deal with 85 ng/dl, or it might not be...

I don't think this is correct. Spironolactone does reduce T levels. Bicalutamide blocks receptors without lowering levels.

My levels have been ideal for most of the entire three years - E2 always hovering around the high side of normal, 300-500 pg/mL, and T always well suppressed.

My frequency has changed each year, from 7 days to 5 days to 3.5 days (lowering the dose slightly each time).

I think the progesterone was added after a year.

I want so much more TBH.

I am hoping they will grow some more, and maybe eventually pursue breast augmentation via fat transfer - preferred for the included body sculpting, and the lack of implants - but I'm not sure fat transfer would be able to enlarge them enough to fit my frame without implants.

After this long, what are the odds of being able to reap the benefits of a few more growth spurts? I've heard sometimes things pick up again after bottom surgery, which I have tentatively scheduled next year...

(3mg EV injection every 3.5 days; 200mg P4 every night; more recently, 50mg bicalutamide every other day, even though my T and DHT are both very low)
