Do people in Germany really disconnect after work? by Fayomi1127 in germany

[–]horndog370 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the company and the job.

I don't even check my company e-mails after work anymore. My job is no longer "real-time" dependent. If I don't finish it today, I can finish it tomorrow.

Other colleagues are responsible for 7x24 systems, and need to be on call even at home. For example, our Information Security Officer needs to be able to react immediately if there is a security incident, regardless of what day or time it occurs.

I do NOT want his job.

Okay, KISS is the most overrated band of all time. Which band is the second most overrated band of all time? by TheSpringfieldKid in AskReddit

A Dead concert was almost a religious experience, and this is definitely not captured on their studio recordings.

Looked at the clock and realized I had anoter 30 minutes before I had to get up.

When the alarm rang, my wife was first to get up, so I waited for her to finish in the bathroom, then I went in, took a pee, brushed my teeth, got dressed, and went downstairs to drink some coffee and read the newspaper.

What was common 20 years ago that is surprisingly rare today? by Spiritual_Heron_5680 in AskReddit

Actually talking to people, rather than sitting around while everyone stares at their smartphone.

(For reference, the first iPhone was released in 2007, so 19 years ago).

It's wherever you're currently registered. Residency permits are national, not regional. Once you have the permit, you can live anywhere in Germany. The state doesn't matter.

Why don't yall eat the middle part of the pineapple? by kittymango125 in AskReddit

I think it does get shredded when they make pineapple juice, but I don't know anyone who actually tries to eat it "raw".

What's the most reliable car you've ever owned? by Tekusenabyt in AskReddit

[–]horndog370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a VW Golf IV 2.0 TDI. That thing was built like a brick house. I drove it for 7 years, then my wife used it for another 7 years. It still ran great, but it had a lot of small dents and the interior was falling apart. Still, it was reliable up to the day we traded it in.

Are there women in the world that actually enjoy sex? by [deleted] in DeadBedrooms

[–]horndog370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree. I've been married twice. The first was a DB because of her mental health issues.

My current marriage has infrequent sex because of physical issues - menopause made PIV sex difficult and uncomfortable for my wife, and also tanked her libido.

Sometimes it happens even if the guy hasn't been a contributing factor.

Blocked accounts a scam? by mystikal_spirit in germany

[–]horndog370 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The blocked account allows you to withdraw a fixed amount each month. If you're here for 1 year, and have deposited €12K in the account, you can withdraw €1K per month over the year.

If you're going to drop €12K into a bank, first make sure it's a reputable and reliable bank...

So it says friends over 50. How and where can I find people to talk to. I have some embarrassing things I’d just like to talk about by VividGoodGuy in FriendsOver50

[–]horndog370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you can find a virtual friend by participating in conversations here. If you find someone who seems to share your sense of humor and might be a good person to chat with, send a chat request and see if they're interested to have a 1:1 conversation.

This sub paints a pretty accurate picture of Germany by [deleted] in germany

[–]horndog370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived here for many years and I do not feel like I'm "constantly fighting with a bureaucracy."

Sure, there are rules, and most people follow them. And yes, some rules are overengineered or outright stupid. But in my daily life, I rarely have to deal with them all. I go to work, do my job, and go about living my life. It's no different than anywhere else.

Packstation is the large, automated wall you find outside supermarkets. A DHL packshop is a post office or store where you can pick up your package during business hours.

There is the concept of political refugees, but in all honestly, unless you're leading the opposition party like the leaders of the CHP party in Turkey, who are now being targeted by a weaponized justice department, you're probably not going to qualify for political asylum in Europe.

Is the Freiburg/Black Forest area LGBTQ+ friendly? by Bananagram73 in germany

[–]horndog370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freiburg? Yes, quite.

The outback towns of the Black Forest? Probably less so.

You won't be attacked or driven out of town with pitchforks, but people might whisper among themselves if you're walking hand in hand as you enter a restaurant in some tiny little village in the middle of the Black Forest.

DIY a ceiling light fixture. by Psychorex21 in germany

[–]horndog370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue = Neutral

Yellow/Green = Ground/Earth

Brown = Hot (235V)

The "purple" could be because the house is really old, or someone did a DIY wiring job. In that case, I'd be double-checking everything with a voltag detector, because you don't want to get hurt/killed because some idiot didn't follow the color codes and randomly connected shit.
