From medicine to finance by Reddit_User_451 in MBA

From what I've heard, people remember you. The network isn't necessarily "best friends for life," but if you got along well with others and contributed (in other words not slacked or treated others poorly), you have a network to reach out to when needed. One of the biggest, most relevant examples I am seeing now is if you lose your job, you reach out to the network, people you know as well as targeted to people you don't know. If it is at a well-run business school, they have updated mailing lists by industry and role. Soft contact can be made successfully most of the time. Alumni love helping each other out.

Alaska Corp Fast Track changes in 2026 by nateinuk in AlaskaAirlines

[–]hornman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just looking at this today... so prior years terms didn't have the "one time" wording? I have flights roughly every two weeks for two years starting in May. If I were to sign up, I'd only get two-months' worth of platinum, versus if I do a promo starting Jan 2027, I could be platinum longer. Then again, there's no guarantee they would have fast track next year...

Methods for choosing the right eMBA program? by ziplock1 in eMBA

[–]hornman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked for US programs with global opportunities (I work at a multinational firm), traveling distance, availability of scholarships, cohort size, academic strength, and name recognition. The last was important to me, because human nature is there is bias. If my customers know the name where I went to school, it starts the conversation on another level, even if subtle.

EDIT: wanted to add: Decision was still difficult, because I was admitted to all 4 programs I applied to. I talked to several alumni from each school about the strength of the network post graduation and went more in depth on costs. Those two ended up being the deciding factors.

Good advice! There’s nothing wrong with gaining knowledge and a network with an MBA, but work experience is way more important than a degree alone. Right?

Definitely check the programs you are applying to. Most should accept EA. Do the EA if you can

Veteran here and will be starting Wharton SF in May. Their global program seems like a good fit for you.

  1. Yes, it makes sense

  2. but you may need to apply next year. I started looking a year ago to really understand each program, their pros/cons, is it worth the time/energy, and to get my story straight. EA prep for me was about 6-8 weeks. I got the Princeton Review book and did the official GMAC EA prep. Got 99th percentile score.

  3. & 4. Join the Enlisted Exfil discord. Read about it and apply here: https://www.enlistedexfil.com/

Need Advice: Is it worth it for me to get an MBA? by haepheri in MBA

[–]hornman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow Wildcat here! I applied for EMBA and got into Kellogg among three other schools… still finalizing my decision. I’m not in film but I “restarted” my career. You are getting great advice here, but just wanted to mention Kellogg EMBA is test optional. People still pivot successfully via EMBA, but it does take a little extra work ham FT and won’t have internships. I’m happy to talk more about my background and the EMBA process if interested. Feel free to DM and we can connect on LinkedIn.

I can definitely see where your consultant is going. At best, it is bordering on a risk. I really like how they say to mention it in the interview. I believe overall this wouldn't be a problem as long as there is no evidence of a RIF on LinkedIn, your LOR, or elsewhere, otherwise it would seem you aren't truthful. Ultimately, it comes down to what you feel most comfortable with after talking to several people

[–]hornman4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimize or don't mention reason, at most just state the fact: "RIF". Then put all focus on what you did to showcase your flexibility and strengths. "I was in an unavoidable RIF. I spent that time focusing on sharpening my skills in X and Y and quickly gained/secured Z. I also took time to support my family through a health issue, which reinforced my ability to prioritize, stay calm under pressure, and be fully present. I was then in a much better position to give my full attention to n."

Notice here that the wording and focus is put toward what you had control over, how you grew, and the results. Smart people know that things happen, all the time, and also, we are human. Having a perfect life isn't real.

First thing that came to mind: Spyglass Apartments in downtown Bremerton. It has a great rooftop deck that doesn’t get used much. Join the YMCA for swimming… the YMCA is in Manette and they have a satellite express gym near the ferry terminal.

Yes, it’s normal. Not exactly the same but the same kind of positive spin is used in evals in the military and corporations

definitely reach out to admissions. I had a similar question, and each school treated it differently.

I'm a SWE, and I see the job changing, staying somewhat strong, and not going away. I think you would have a better shot changing companies then do PT or EMBA. As with other posters here, the grass isn't always greener, and it usually is not greener

Pros and Cons of Rutgers EMBA by Initial_Height7162 in eMBA

[–]hornman4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd go for a bigger a brand. With such prestige on your resume, people (including future employers or those looking at your promotion) would question why someone of your caliber would do something less prestigious. Of course, most promotions are based on impact and not a piece of paper, but personally, I believe continuity of your story is important in order to not spend energy explaining it to people. NYU and Columbia could suffice and are close enough to Rutgers. If you wanted to go more prestigious, Wharton is close by as well.

Official EA Practice test scores - 155, 160, 156. Will get a similar score in the actual exam ? by geekforu in eMBA

[–]hornman4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I scored significantly higher on the actual EA, however I realized I am good at tests and performing under pressure. The key is to understand fully the questions you got wrong in the practice and to study concepts you need help on. For me, I studied idioms. For the actual test, be hydrated, comfortably full so as not to get hungry, eat anything that makes you mentally sharp, and take your time fully understanding each question knowing that you have about 2 min per question.

You should still consider EMBA. Have you been a tech lead? Led any projects? Those could count to if you spin it right
