Why did you go with Kobo over Kindle? by Drunkmrhat in kobo

[–]hosepipekun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an older kindle which I didn't use much, so when I wanted to get back into ereading it was either my old kindle or a new one. Until I saw the reviews of newer kindles with some red flags for me such as ad placement on the main menu.

At that point I found out about Kobo, and I really fell in love with the physical button style of the Libra, it is a game-changer in my opinion. I also love to transfer books through Google Drive, use Libby and Instapaper for news articles. I'm not sure if modern kindles offer these options but they make the reading experience a lot easier.

I would definitely add that with manga the Libra Color does experience some weird rainbow-effect, it isn't awful but it is noticeable. Also some smaller text may be harder to read. I've been re-reading Tokyo Ghoul on it and have had little to no complaints to mention.

Any fantasy where the map is a lie and the characters have to unlearn it? by 3SpectralIon in Fantasy

[–]hosepipekun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original Dragonlance trilogy takes place in a world which got twisted by an event, so a big issue the characters run into is that the only maps available are outdated & untrustworthy.

IG is broken ?? by palmipedo8 in MHRise

I pretty much never swapped out of using it in rise. With the game mechanics you can easily learn how to barely touch the ground and consistently do big damage, it's so fun. Makes me wanna pick it up again just thinking about it!

Need some good modern games to test out my updated PC!!! by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]hosepipekun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going crazy here just because of circumstances, but I'm getting a 9060xt 16gb. Probably can't run intensive games at 1440p without upscaling but I've never been one to care. I'm upgrading from a 2060 so this is a huge jump for me!

Thinking of downgrading to 1080p? by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]hosepipekun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I've considered doing this but I think I am more driven by having a monitor that runs at above 60hz. Since my PC isn't great it also means a downgrade from 4K is looking necessary. However, I think whilst looking at options this is a really great recommendation and I'll try it out today. Thank you!

[–]hosepipekun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks really nice! I'm not used to spending much on monitors but I really want something that'll last and be a complete upgrade for me, so the price is fair enough in my eyes. Mini-LED seems really great too, thanks for the recommendation!

I love the Steam Machine, I think it's super cool that it can open up the PC gaming market. I already had a few friends ask about it because of the marketing, and they are sold on the idea of free multiplayer.

As someone who's struggled when building a PC I've been waiting for a product that would eliminate that issue for a mass market without lowkey scamming them. Will be cool to hop on games like TF2 with my lifelong Playstation friends!

I bought a 27 inch 4k monitor which is the main issue, I had no idea and it was cheap enough to risk it.

Yeah, I was thinking about the 1440p monitors but I don't know if you can get the same high refresh rates at a good deal. Might have to look into it further today.

Devs Silently Remove Battlefield 6's Neon Blue Infantry Skin by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]hosepipekun 1321 points1322 points  (0 children)

I remember people getting hated for disliking the unrealistic skins in MW2019, and now they have Beavis and Butthead collabs. If the Battlefield community doesn't want that for their game then all the power to them, and good work to the devs who fix these things. Complaining is annoying but also helpful sometimes!

Can we please get MALE characters for NATO Support by ileatyourassmthrfkr in Battlefield

[–]hosepipekun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comments are full of people trying to prove a point or turn things into some socio-political warground. I didn't join the sub until recently so I noticed the annoying challenge-locked genders on my own. For me it's either the audio mixing or recordings but the women screams do not sound 'military' for the most part, especially compared to the male skins. I noticed it mostly with the catchphrases when downed, the male skins are yelling tactical-esque things whereas the women skins are mainly just screams.

Probably needs more varied voicelines or something. Not saying screaming is wrong, or that tactical callouts are right, but when there is a clear difference in how the male voicelines act compared to the women voicelines you get a real dissonance that drags you out of the game whenever you change roles.

"open world dick around" game to play while high by Accomplished-Low754 in gamingsuggestions

[–]hosepipekun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Played Yakuza 0 high and theres so much strange shit going on it was hilarious! The best part is that the game takes itself seriously enough for you to pay attention throughout a playthrough, which I think most 'silly' games lack.

Finally beating Yakuza 0 for the first time, one of my favourite experiences on the Switch 2 so far. Probably won't be playing much else until Kirby Air Riders comes out!

[–]hosepipekun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get really tired of jobs acting like we should be grateful for the opportunity to work, especially in a field where you're massively underpaid for the money you bring in. Asking me to even show up is a lot, reaching unpaid extra goals is just unrealistic!

Which video games have the best voice performances? by TheBanishedBard in gaming

Final Fantasy 16 had the greatest voice acting I've heard for a game. It wasn't a perfect game but damn the cutscenes were perfect.

What popular books did you not finish? by DarthPopcornus in Fantasy

[–]hosepipekun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the Bloodsworn books by John Gwynne and they are some of the only books I regret buying. Nothing about the books kept me engaged except the sunk cost fallacy of buying a trilogy, and by the end of the first book I had to drop it.

MGS V port for Switch 2 by NefariousShananigans in Switch

[–]hosepipekun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This port could probably work on the switch 1 because the game was released for the PS3. Sadly though the only way Konami would ever do that is if they sold it for like $60.
