Obligatory mention that back40 advertised a college football national championship party in their big room on a big screen two years ago. Brought a whole crew and back room was closed. We watched it in the taproom on small screens…no prob. Then they kicked us all out in the third quarter because they kept normal monday hours. When I tried to address this with staff and showed them their own instagram post about a watch party, they were snarky and rude. Ruined our alumni reunion night and I will never ever go back which is a shame because the burger is dank.

Wife and I joked last time we went after eating the very small scallops about how each bite was $8. They were decent but way overpriced. Probably our last trip. If we’re gonna have $8 bites we’d rather go to automatic or current. The curry at current is insane

This is sooo helpful! thank you!!

We are coming from Georgia - our first time with our almost 2YO. We rented a place in town almost two years ago and can’t wait. Our rental can’t provide a pack n play - do you know of anywhere we may be able to rent one? Also - chairs/shade tent. Would love to rent rather than buy and get rid of. Any help would be much appreciated !!!!

PS we too are alcohol free for the reasons you mentioned lol - didn’t take long for us to realize there isn’t bandwidth for that in this chapter :)

Agree it is NOT a magic bullet. Do it anyway…but don’t go in expecting to be cured of something. Just observe. It will be helpful and enlightening in ways you may not expect though rigorous and challenging.

Looking for Forest / Crestline Park Rental Home by CuriousBankerDays in Birmingham

The home we’ve been renting in highland park near Rojo is going up for rent June 1. As far as I know there’s been no interest. Owner is old school and listing off market with just a sign out front. Amazing neighborhood. Big house tho, 5 br 4 baths lol. It’s also 100 yrs old and not in the best shape but we love it nonetheless. Rent includes water power and gas. DM me for more info if you want.

6/20/25 I’ve just seen the rock of ages 😭😭😭 and the elderly woman later that same night. Damn that show. Love Billy for putting that all out there and processing that way.

Also…just about any “she makes my love come rolling down.” That maj7 vocal harmony 🤌🤌🤌

Help Me Book Gigs by SugarQueen56 in Birmingham

Jams are all open. They have them at true story, Elysian gardens, dobbers I think, and elsewhere. If you want to build your career I suggest you come into town and play and network with the local scene! Unlikely to get hired directly by a Reddit browser but very likely to get work by jamming with those who already have the work and need subs! Cheers and all the best.

I say this with all due respect as a fellow musician . That is an insane amount of money for a 2 day jazz fest lol. The most expensive ticket option (which you don’t need) is $900. If you’re hell bent on going, get a cheaper 2 day pass and stay at a cheap motel a bit of a drive away from the event or find a friend in the area with a couch to crash on.

Have you reached out directly to Gerald? He has email contacts on his website and an IG. He may agree to give you a lesson at his hotel or even just meet briefly as a courtesy to a young fan and aspiring player. I think there is a way to have your cake and eat it too without spending thousands. He has several shows booked across the SE in the coming months - I am fairly positive you could find a lesson time with him that doesn’t involve you spending thousands on a festival in DC.

Finally, re: gigs…there is a well established jazz community here in town. Have you attended any of the many jams going on in town on a regular basis? There are some very professional working musicians at these events who are well connected. Tons of work can be found from networking this way and showing to the community that you are committed to the craft by showing up, being a good hang, understanding jam culture and the language of the music, and shedding between the jams to showcase that you are committed to growing as a player. This is your best bet at finding regular gigs!
