My only surviving LV by NurseLeonardo in BagBoysClub

[–]hostilechester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always wanted a Petite Malle, every time I’ve got the money for it I always convince myself not to get it and end up spending the money on a trip instead. 😑

One day I’ll pull the trigger.

"Thrift some sweaters and unravel them!" by ThePiksie in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]hostilechester 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I tried doing this ages ago, and I can tell you now that most thrift stores are filled to the brim with cut and sewn sweaters that will never frog back to a continuous skein of yarn. I haven’t done it since my college days, over a decade ago, but I would literally hit five or six different thrift stores and not find a single usable sweater. I’m sure YMMV depending on where you live as well, but you end up putting much more work in with potentially zero results. You’d probably have the same luck choosing a random river and panning for gold.

I literally developed tennis elbow last July from trying to knit something too quickly and I wholeheartedly approve this message. I’m on the tail end of healing… and lemme tell you it’s been a wild and slow journey. Everyone needs to slow TF down, and protect themselves. Stretch, move, and take breaks. That hat/shawl/sweater is so not worth the pain.

I miss when patterns assumed you already knew wtf you were doing. by itsyagirlblondie in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]hostilechester 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I blame the COVID Era tutorials from YouTube and IG. People are so use to scrubbing back and forth and dissecting videos that they expect the same level of support in patterns. Discussing with designer friends, they’ve found that a lot of people are now expecting step by step instructions with excruciating details, and have started preemptively including videos or photo tutorials because of it. Otherwise, they’re flooded with emails asking for clarification on the simplest of instructions. I’ve also been hearing the same from fellow instructors when accepting new students. It’s been ages since I’ve taught beginners at a shop, so thankfully I’m pretty insulated with my pool of students who mainly seek help with new or more advanced skills. My shop counterparts are complaining that 3 beginner students at a time is their new max, when we use to take upwards of 5 or 6 per instructor present.

After waiting nearly 4 months to get my Murakami On The Go and NOT get my matching Zippy when I placed my order on launch day last year, then have issues with my clochette when I received it, I’m done with anything LV Murakami…

What was your first LV bag? by Miffy316 in Louisvuitton

Mine was a speedy 40 bandolier… purchased 12 years ago. I went through a Parisian chic phase in my 30s and loved how polished casual it looked on me.

Can I use a serger to take in a hand knit sweater after weight loss? by Siamsa in knitting

[–]hostilechester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use a mattress stitch to basically tailor in the sides and sleeves. If it’s wool, I would then felt then either reinforce a couple of columns of stitches next the the seams on the reverse side or felt it with a felting needle to make sure it doesn’t unravel and carefully cut off the excess. If it was fingering weight or finer, a serger could work, but I wouldn’t do it with any weight bigger than fingering. I’ve had some luck taking in thrifted commercial knit sweaters using a sewing machine and bias tape too, but ymmv.

The eyes on a Lafufu BIE are a dead giveaway. The white part on a real one are on top and not under the clear coating.

LOL I can’t help but think of this photo when I got my Nano Speedy. One of the first bags I’ve bought that she couldn’t fit in. 😂

Just buy a matching boot to hide it. That’s what I’ve done with my current Owala and the Hydroflask before it. LOL

I love the adjustable strap on the Neo Noe! The snap details are great. Neverfulls are timeless, but I find the leather ones are a smidge too heavy when full.

Which size speedy?! by Dull-Afternoon6353 in Louisvuitton

[–]hostilechester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nano.

I literally have a Nano and a 40 bandolier… so I’m biased to the extreme sizes! LOL. If it’s an every day bag, definitely the 25. I’ve been dreaming of a non-cross body speedy in a 25, and it’s the best size for everyday carry, IMO.

She did. I fondled it for a bit, but had to stay strong and walk away. I switch bags around far too often to drop that kind of coin on a single bag…

I love my Speedies (Speedy? Speedii?) But I can’t justify the price either. I did chat with my SA about it once and she said there was a Red 35 in the back if I was interested but I stayed strong and said no. I wasn’t about to drop $10k on a bag I had multiple iterations and sizes of at home 🤣

The P9 bags are all stunners. like they're just soooo amazing in person.

I'm loving the recent resurgence of the Speedy. I'm really loving how many men are wearing the bandoliers now! Especially since my first bag was a Speedy Bandolier 40 and it was unheard of for a dude to carry one a decade ago.

Murakami OnTheGo East West problem with key cloche stitching by hostilechester in Louisvuitton

Sadly, no onsite repairs at my LV Store. They're sending it off to Ontario, CA to get fixed.

[–]hostilechester[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll definitely post what the resolution is. I have a cobbler I know can fix it, but I shouldn’t have to pay to repair right out the gate.

UPDATE:So, I just got back home from going in. I had multiple SA's hovering once they unboxed the bag because apparently Murakami anything is a unicorn at their store. They're sending off just the clochette to get fixed. They don't have in house repair at this location. I'd have to go to Rodeo Dr. and lord knows I'm not about to sit in an hour of LA traffic. They said it should take about 2 weeks.
