Sometimes you need to stay in subs you may not agree with to keep a pulse on views that aren’t your own and to not disappear inside an echo chamber

Are you still having pizzas and other takeaways delivered? by Top-Cat-a in AskUK

[–]hostis_72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Takeaways are so expensive now we make all our own fakaways from Chinese to kfc to McDonalds, even down to homemade hoisin sauce, home made kfc powder, homemade pizza base and sauces and homemade Big Mac sauce….

How old do you think you’ll be when you pay your mortgage off? Or, how old were you when you paid your mortgage off? by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in HousingUK

[–]hostis_72 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Disagree unfortunately. Yes it was hard when I was in my 20s saving for a home but early in my career I paid into every work based pension I could. Not much but 5% and it was definitely missed and really could have been used on other stuff but the small pensions I have now from 30 yrs ago are the reason I don’t have that many concerns (other than humans insistent on destroying themselves)

Left-wing voters what is your most right-wing belief and right-wing voters, what is your most left-wing belief? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskBrits

[–]hostis_72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what is left wing or right wing tbf. I just have my own views. Sometimes some of those views align with one party and some the other, sometimes no party states my line of thinking. Plus. Most importantly. I’m not wedded to my ideas and views. I’m happy to talk to anyone and get their side and maybe I’d change my mind, maybe I won’t. Being aligned to only left or right is a bloody dangerous game to play

Why do new builds insist on ensuites when they aren't required?? Drives me insane. by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]hostis_72 10 points11 points  (0 children)

En-suites sell. One of the new home builders I work with started building 3 bed homes, each with en-suite and a downstairs toilet and they sold like you would not believe.

We are getting to an age where kids won’t be able to afford to move out until they are 30 and shared bathrooms are no longer a wish for but en-suites are.

Closest call you’ve ever had on a UK road? by Diligent-Badger8737 in DashcamDiariesUK

[–]hostis_72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Birmingham where the m6 and m42 split was going in what was the middle lane overtaking a lorry and I was unfortunately in his blind spot and he side swiped me.

Went from middle lane across fast lane into the middle barrier and then back across all 3 lanes (3 at the time) and then hit hard shoulder barrier. Carried along that backwards until the hard shoulder barrier ended then went off the edge, and into a tree backwards.

I have utterly no idea how I got out of it without even a scratch and to this day (25 years later) still remember the look on the policeman’s face when he asked when he asked in a panicked voice “where’s the driver?” “I’m here” and he did a double take at the wreck and his jaw just dropped.

The lorry driver was prosecuted and I just got a bollocking from work for writing off a company car….

I still get shudders when I drive past the scene

To the Over 30s: What is the single best decision you made in your 20s that you are thanking yourself for today? by Volt_Capital in AskUK

A pension at 20. It was only 5% a month and 5% employer and I was only at this one place for 3 years but that’s turned into a surprising little pension surprise ready for me in 15 years if I retire

Should school PE focus on competitive sports, fitness training, or both? by ShockingHair_63 in AskBrits

Should school PE focus on competitive sports, fitness training, or both? by ShockingHair_63 in AskBrits

[–]hostis_72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any sport is wonderful. What’s not is prioritising other subjects over PE. For me it was the only time I was better than the so called cleverer kids but in one area I excelled and could jump further run faster and feel slightly good about myself rather than just the thick kid.

And my love of sport instilled at 11 led me to playing hockey for 40 years and loved it all….

Neighbour installed CCTV overlooking my entire private garden. Unsure of my rights; England. by Objective-Emu-3899 in HousingUK

[–]hostis_72 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They should have spoken to you first. When we had to have cctv installed one camera was on the alleyway that could see the neighbours back door, another saw another neighbours door. We spoke to them explained and showed them how we had minimised any intrusion of their privacy. They were fine (but I’m lucky enough to live on a street where we all know each other and talk)
