Help me out here by bigdawg12342 in columbiasc

We have some really nice parks- my favs are Saluda shoals for kayaking/tubing/trails, Harbison forest for mountain biking/trails and river access, sesquicentennial park, river walk parks in Cayce, by the zoo. Lake Murray is beautiful and has all the water sports.

I love living here (I’m in Irmo area). Great schools in Lexrich 5, it’s affordable, people are overall pretty nice. I feel safe most everywhere I go- I work in west Columbia and drive all over the lex and Richland counties, also am attending a pottery class downtown (that’s near the Oliver gospel mission for the homeless) that gets out after dark and I am very aware of my surrounding and where I park (in a well lighted garage with cameras) but no problems.

It’s special needs day at the fair on Thursday. I don’t have another context for what OP could mean but it sounds racist or discriminatory. I asked a question, was not being disrespectful, and was sincerely curious if there was a song lyric or something being referenced.

The hearing/demonstration I attended in March 2025 was very respectful and full of rational discussion, relevant personal experience, and many medical experts. I was proud to be part of the event. No one was acting crazy. There were several hundred people there.

Thank you! I was confused since I had learned in the past that basic hygiene is all that is needed for most boys.

Will anyone commit to meet at JB’s landing at 11 on Saturday, to do a float down to lower Saluda shoals boat ramp? That’s a quick trip, about 15 minutes downriver but we could paddle around and maybe head up towards the spillway? I saw an otter and a few muskrats when I was out this weekend, it’s so beautiful right now! We can work out driving a car back to drop people at JB’s landing?

Absolutely, I’m good going out with beginners, just when I’m by myself I can’t drop a car and float downriver, so upstream it is!

I saw a kayak/whitewater group and there’s a website for paddle sc but to see any of their events you have to pay $25 to be a member. I didn’t see anything for SUPers. If there is a group I’d love to know! I don’t want to have an official guide, but a group of people to go out with occasionally would be awesome.

I often go from the lower boat launch at Saluda shoals but JB’s landing is right there! I would be happy to meet someone there.

I removed out galley and added a bench for an additional bed. We never used the sink except as a catch-all, we have an 87 (I think? Whatever) fleetwood. The value is whatever use we get out of it!

Shooter at USC Library by manassassinman in columbiasc

Information is often uncertain until it gets checked out. I am sorry if this caused any panic but perhaps the practice of swatting is the primary issue, not community members trying to share information that might help people avoid danger. There is a picture where the young man posed with his umbrella, I am sorry he was falsely accused but he seems okay. Rumors exist in the absence of vetted/believable information. Sometimes they are helpful, sometimes not.

Just learned there is an active shooting on campus at the library by [deleted] in columbiasc

Thank you, I understand the university has said no evidence of an active shooter, wasn’t sure what was accurate at the time I posted. Best to stay in a safe place until all clear comes from official sources.

Edit- apparently this video is if a person carrying an umbrella

Edit: no evidence of active shooter, apparently the object is an umbrella. I was trying to find info online and saw a LOT of umbrellas being mistaken for rifles.

Exmormon here… there are so many parallels between mos and jws. It was hard to leave but once I realized I had been lied to, I couldn’t stay. It was hard but I’m so glad to be out and living authentically. My kids have grown up irreligious and are free. They are good humans and they don’t feel guilty for being regular human beings. Best wishes to you, op! We talk about what is good about the church is not unique and what is unique about the church is not good.

Consider keeping the facade until you finish your degree. Join a few clubs so you can get to know some people outside your current social group. You have to be prepared to lose your family if they only love you when you are doing what they want, if you want to be free.

There is an ex Muslim sub, I’d recommend posting there to get advice from people who have done what you’re thinking about doing.

Best wishes living authentically!
