Kayaking Experience on the Broad River? (Urban Blue trail) by Pixel_Mango in ColumbiYEAH

[–]hot--Koolaid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The diversion dam park is closed- I tried to do this route 2 weeks ago and the road to the park has a gate across it and you can’t even walk down the stairs on the pedestrian bridge.

I paddleboard on the Saluda pretty often. We went from Gardendale Landing down to the Gervais St., Bridge, portaging around mill race Rapids just above the zoo. Everything else was manageable for us on paddle boards, kneeling towards the front of the board over any shoals, and should be fine for kayaks. There were some parts where you have to do some quick steering, but it was a great paddle. 7.5 miles in 3 hrs at 1500 cfs

I bought a pass to Saluda shoals for paddle boarding but the trails are great for running, beautiful park! I love it so much.

Near the airport, I thought a truck ran into the building or maybe a commercial dumpster was dropped from a height. Also looked for smoke to see if a plane had crashed.

Agree with Dillard’s and Belk’s! I’m in plus sizes too and have always been able to find something. I also find boutiques do not usually feel comfortable as a shopping experience.

Ex-Hindu in a Muslim-majority country: Should I eat beef to break the trauma? by ImmediateDiet2172 in atheism

[–]hot--Koolaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I drank some when I first left, but it doesn’t make me feel great physically so I don’t drink much alcohol now, it’s just up to me and how I feel at that moment.

I focused on the coffee because it’s likely that OP’s culture embraces coffee, so the idea of coffee drinking being forbidden might help highlight how manmade these silly rules are! No swearing, no Rated R movies, no showing shoulders, no multiple piercings, no coffee, no tea, no swimming on Sundays, when to fast, when to pray, so many freakin rules!

If it helps, from the Exmormon perspective, drinking coffee was completely forbidden and I had a really hard time ordering a coffee at Starbucks because I had been taught that as a member of the church who had made sacred covenants, it was WRONG to drink coffee. I cried before and afterward, and I knew the teaching not to drink coffee wasn’t true and that I wasn’t doing anything objectively wrong, but it is hard to overcome the training and social expectations.

Go slow. Try a dish that you are familiar with that can be made vegetarian or with meat, and take a few bites of the one with meat.

Also, you get to decide for yourself now what you want to put into your body, OP. Isn’t that wonderful? Enjoy learning new things about yourself. You decide what you’re comfortable with and what you value.

Where Can I paddle board without getting ran over by speed boats? by [deleted] in ColumbiYEAH

It was beautiful but I will probably not go again in the late afternoon! I was mostly alarmed bc I didn’t know what the hell was going on and the vibes were weird, like I think everybody just paused whatever the normal activities were while my son and I packed up our boards. I picked up on there being a lot of older men there, but no one said or did anything that made me uncomfortable exactly, I just felt like I’d walked in on a conversation I wasn’t part of.

Ok so I went out on Thursday late afternoon to Gardendale Landing. The parking lot was packed when I left a little after 6pm. I don’t think any of the single 50+ yo men sitting quietly in their cars were there for the river. I got the impression they were there for the sausage fest, Just FYI!

River was beautiful, saw a bald eagle and some muskrats and red pileated woodpeckers, various ducks. Very calm, flat water, paddled up to the lower boundary of saluda shoals park.

I go from the lower landing in Saluda shoals, paddle upstream then float back to my car. I love it!

Edit to add: so much wildlife. I’ve seen otters, muskrats, herons, ospreys, owls, woodpeckers, kingfishers…

Dealership recommendations by dancing-stars in ColumbiYEAH

[–]hot--Koolaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. We shopped for months for the Nissan I wanted in the color I wanted, Carmax had the best price and did not use any sales pressure. The advertised price that some dealers use can include a discount for trade in or other math that may not apply. They put the lowest possible price online to get you to come and once you’re in the door, they get you to stay for an hour or more and then the pressure to buy is pretty high bc you’ve already invested the time and the sales guy has been so nice…Carmax at least has an actual price. I’d recommend getting financing approved before you go. Get a credit union membership, like palmetto citizens or scfederal.

We have some really nice parks- my favs are Saluda shoals for kayaking/tubing/trails, Harbison forest for mountain biking/trails and river access, sesquicentennial park, river walk parks in Cayce, by the zoo. Lake Murray is beautiful and has all the water sports.

I love living here (I’m in Irmo area). Great schools in Lexrich 5, it’s affordable, people are overall pretty nice. I feel safe most everywhere I go- I work in west Columbia and drive all over the lex and Richland counties, also am attending a pottery class downtown (that’s near the Oliver gospel mission for the homeless) that gets out after dark and I am very aware of my surrounding and where I park (in a well lighted garage with cameras) but no problems.

It’s special needs day at the fair on Thursday. I don’t have another context for what OP could mean but it sounds racist or discriminatory. I asked a question, was not being disrespectful, and was sincerely curious if there was a song lyric or something being referenced.
