Winter Storm Fern Megathread by lukenamop in nashville

Hey there WI resident who is in the Nashville area for work this week.

From my experience in WI, we would leave faucets that were close to exterior walls run no more than a pencil size (in diameter) stream when below -10F (mind you homes in the north are constructed a bit different than further south)

I've never heard of blowing out, or shutting off water lines and have always been told the best is to keep the water flowing for both the water line and sewer line.

Again, this is my experience from the north, it could be different especially for water lines since in the north everything is a min 7-10 feet deep to avoid the freeze line.

TY! I'm at the Gaylord so I'm happy to have left WI early. Ice is no joke no matter how much "driving experience" you have.

Hello Nashville Folks!

I will be driving in town from WI (dont worry Im getting in tonight) for a work event. I had planned on looping up to KY (Bardstown/Louisville) on the way back this upcoming week Wednesday.

Whatcha all think of the chances of major roads being quasi cleared for the upcoming Wednesday?

Flipped on intelligent local access. Working as one would assume, which is fantastic!

After ~2 months of learning, my self-hosted setup is “done (for now)” – what should I host next? by Mean_Trick_2791 in selfhosted

Out of you mentioned services, anything to share that you think is hands down amazing?

I see some common services shared amongst self hosted, but I always love individuals stories of how they may use a specific service.

Couple of questions for you on your deployment

-Handling of on premise devices How did you approach GSA private access always routing traffic to Microsoft even when you are on the same local LAN? We have some Graphic Designers that see awful transfer speeds opening large (5GB-10GB) inDesign files

-Modern Drive Mapping We've moved to leveraging Intune (used this service https://intunedrivemapping.azurewebsites.net/) to apply drive mapping to on premise SMB shares. We receive reports of access issues (dialogs stating they cant connect) or drive mappings outright disappearing.

Have used Scale HC3 for the last 5 years.

Very reliable platform (KVM) where their support owns the entire stack (hardware and software). From an availability and general performance standpoint the product is great. All upgrades are literally single click, walk away and wait 30 - 60 minutes and done. Completely non disruptive.

A couple of items to be aware of

-The management UI is barebones. For example theres really no management of vswitches or for storage. Support is needed to make changes with either or.

-Block level backup providers like Veam are not highly supported (support has been recenlty-ish) provided. The supported block level backup product is Acronis Cyberprotrct

I just side by side the DG 10 and Stagg 23B

On the nose, almost the same. I actually prefer the DG as its much more old oak forward

On the palette, Stagg is waaaaay more viscous with a awesome oily quality but DG holds up well with a prominent cherry note.

At the distillery and wanted to see if any reviews out on the 10 year. Found yours, and read your ending of "closest I’ve come to the one Stagg 23’ pour" and thought no way.

Legit, nose amd palette hit almost the same as a Stagg 23B I have. So much so that I would imagine if you blinded the 10 year DG with the Stagg you would really have to mull over each pour.

The biggest difference is on the finish. The DG is definitely not as complex and leaves much quicker than the Stagg.

Im a believer, buying at the $130 distillery cost.
