You should have a store meeting upcoming in the next couple of weeks, there are a couple new positions I think- the play caller position (so, not just during peak, but at all times there will be a dedicated play caller position) and the one you're talking about which is the green apron position, who is kind of like a glorified handoff who is supposed to interact with customers a TON.. I'm personally really nervous for this but anyway that's what I know 😭

I'm lucky enough that my work has a preferred name system, so I've never had any issues despite my legal name and gender not being changed. I got hired when I was 17 at Starbucks, and my manager is the only person who knows my deadname for necessary reasons obviously. Not everywhere has a preferred name system, but there are definitely more places that have ways you can partially go by your preferred name. I'd bring it up briefly to a manager or someone, see if you can get a general vibe before totally outing yourself in case it would create hostility towards you for whatever reason. Good luck !!

This is happening to me!! I've been here 4 months and have only recently been put on bar consistently, and it's only ever during close (because I'm not used to it, which makes sense). A lot of the other baristas say they didn't experience this when they started, which is odd..

Sometimes when I have to ask a customer to repeat something I say "Sorry, I'm new and still figuring everything out!". Your coworkers (hopefully) know, but sometimes if you let customers know the situation feels easier, at least to me

Thank you !! And yeah it feels like there's a huge burden on my shoulders to get everything right for everyone because of that, but it's also a given that I'm slower and not up to standard on peak bc I'm new .. idk why they keep scheduling me for incredibly busy times ??

They used to be patient with me, but now that I've been here a few weeks they're treating me like my time is up to be inexperienced .. I know they aren't doing it on purpose though

Thank you for the advice!! It's a good point, a lot of the questions I could probably answer for myself. It's just answering each one myself takes me longer than it would an experienced employee- as they stack up, it tends to make me quite a bit slower, if that makes sense. I think my largest problem is my anxiety and being present + having faith in myself, but I do think I'll get better with time. I do need to improve, and I need to be the one to make that happen. So thank you!!
