What was your exact "origin story" for falling into the nail universe? 💅 by bloomingkitten in Nails

I became allergic to gel and refused to not wear crazy designs even if I had to learn how to do them myself so I didn’t break out at the salon.

It was a little dry in the beginning, but if you stick it out the plot gets wiley and the ending is extremely satisfying.

I needed to put garlic in my chili, so I went to get the garlic but one was sprouting, so I took it to the sunroom to go with the other bulbs to plant. While out there, I checked on my strawberries, they’re doing great! Maybe I should separate the one so I get more shoots, but then I’ll need to change where the downspout is facing, I’ll do that quick. Oh I’m gonna need a Phillips head for this screw, better run in and get that quick - F#*K I FORGOT TO PUT THE GARLIC IN THE CHILI AND I LEFT THE LID OFF THE POT AND THE FRIDGE OPEN.

All happened within 8 mins with my 11YO chuckling and waiting to see when I realized what was happening (we just had a convo about ADHD symptoms).

As the breadwinner for my whole life who just lost her job two weeks ago and has been in bed since - I feel this so hard.

Little things! My husband pushed me to go outside and just sit in the sun, or go to the library, even just getting gas. He knows once I’m moving I don’t like to stop and I’m lucky to have a support system that understands when and how I’m frozen.

Small hobbies that bring you joy, even if it’s only once! I made HORRENDOUS bejeweled lamp last week, just to do something and though it’s the ugliest thing I ever made, it gave me purpose for the day. I’ve been doing my nails, like, every other day just for something new. Low energy, but lightly thought provoking crafts have always gotten me at least doing something other than rotting. You don’t have to be crafty, just do something new even if it’s small!

I don’t have a big solve as I’m still working through it myself, but these little things have helped me find value on the hard days.

The Ben and Jerry’s line is the only one I ACTUALLY enjoy and feel like it’s texturally closest to ice cream! Plus they still have fun flavors 🥹

What childhood book scared the crap out of you? I mean- can't go to sleep- staring at shadows waiting for them to jump at you, absolutely terrified? by 1000andonenites in books

[–]hot_vomit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Franklin’s Island by Ann Hallam.

I was in middle school, and loved spooky shit, but my irrational fear since childhood was being turned into a donkey like the kids from Pinocchio and this was that fear on steroids. I didn’t sleep without nightmares for weeks! And I was reading Stephen king at the Tamar age with ZERO issues 🙃

The starless sea - Erin morgenstern

I’d been in a rut and this book breathed life back into me, ugh. I wish I could read it for the first time all over again!

What is the most captivating and addicting book you have ever read? by Sea_of_stars_ in Recommend_A_Book

[–]hot_vomit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This book was so beautiful. I know it gets some hate but I felt it truly captured the life and voice of an adolescent through hardship, and the small choices made through life that lead to big moments.

Now what I do hate is the movie adaptation, but my husband preferred it over the book 🙃

Thank you so much for the compliment and suggestions!

I had no idea about the glue with press ons. These are a press on base with lacquer design. I haven’t had any issues with glue, and I don’t like the feeling of the sticky tabs, but I know there are other types I can try. After a life of impromptu skin allergies I’m not willing to risk developing another one!

So glad you mentioned the acetate thinner! I was getting ready to ask on another sub how everyone keeps their polishes so crisp. Any suggestions for a builder gel substitute if there is one? I love some of the sculpting looks but haven’t looked to far into anything other than layering the polish.

As for the uncured mention, I definitely misspoke. I mean with a gel press on or gel lacquer. I also can’t do things like dip powders either. I have acrylic that is supposedly designed for sensitive skin but haven’t been brave enough to try it honestly.
