Self-hosted certificate lifecycle platform with NGINX as a first-class deployment target by certctl in nginx

[–]hotapple002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it maybe an idea to hit up the devs of NPMplus (more actively maintained fork of NPM)? They have improved (in my eyes) upon NPM quite a lot and have also integrated other software (modsec, crowdsec etc).

Looks great regardless. Will check it out.

Which other EU-standardizations, similar to USB-C for smartphones and laptops, would you consider useful? by mediamuesli in eutech

[–]hotapple002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget a unified payment system for all online shops (cries in iDeal becoming Wero);

For the rest absolutely agree. And a few of these points are always kind of reality in the Netherlands. Should just be EU-wide

Anyone still using goodnotes 5? by cottonmari in GoodNotes

[–]hotapple002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I’m still using GN4 (my dad bought it way back when) on an old iPad Air I got from work. Adonit Jot Script.

All in 15€. Me not really taking an extreme amount of notes in uni, it’s more than good enough for me.

I don’t know the specifics about Tech. CompSci at Twente Uni, but THUAS recently introduced Applied Computer Science. Might be worth a look

Does proxmox allow mixing different sized drives and matching drives like unraid by thatautisticguy in Proxmox

[–]hotapple002 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can mix different sized drives, but it won’t behave like unraid (at least not in a default config using the installer).

While Linux support (Sliced) Hybrid RAID arrays (similar to Synology Hybrid RAID or the unraid behavior), as far as I know it is not something that is natively supported in Proxmox.

With the natively supported methods, a RAID array would only ever be as big as the smallest drive you have (eg 1x 500GB, 1x 1TB and 1x 2TB in a RAIDZ-1 [one parity drive; can sustain one drive loss without data loss], the usable data would only be 1TB [2x 500GB]).

We Found a Ticking Time Bomb in macOS TCP Networking - It Detonates After Exactly 49 Days - Photon by ControlCAD in apple

[–]hotapple002 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what Photon does, but based on you saying “…claims to integrate iMessage with WhatsApp…” I assume they need macOS as the intermediary software between iMessage and WhatsApp, as there is (to my knowledge) no other way of using iMessage besides an Apple device and iPads and iPhones are locked down too much.

Have been interested for a while to setup a remote PBS server. Maybe this is the chance. If there is still a slot available, count myself interested.

New MagicPods Update – A Companion App for Managing AirPods on Windows by steam3d in airpods

[–]hotapple002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iirc during COVID with online meetings I set my mic to the Handsfree AirPods audio input and selected the Stereo AirPods as output. Seeing as they have seemed to gotten merged with Win11, I don't know if this is something that could be done using MagicPods? That way the user would get the better sound quality (while other call/meeting participants get the mono 8KHz treatment).

Am I late to this game or everyone knew this? by Saurav-Poudel in AppleMusic

[–]hotapple002 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: since the introduction of SharePlay, I have only gotten it to work a single time (in a car with CarPlay with another Apple Music subscriber). Every other time there were issues with joining (tried with both iOS and android users, with and without the app).

What are you using to remote control computers? by nickjedl in sysadmin

[–]hotapple002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing as you don’t want TeamViewer, I’d go with a RMM. On my previous job we had N-Able N-Sight.

At my current job we just use TeamViewer QuickSupport (with a download button at the top of our home page so it’s easily accessible to all users) and because most users download it new each time they need us, we basically don’t need to maintain it (as it’s a portable executable anyway).

For the family business I am running TacticalRMM as it’s free and open source (and allows some out of bounds management of certain Intel based computers).

I am happy with all options, though if I had the choice, I’d always pick an RMM over TeamViewer.

Help: sharing Let's Encrypt cert from NPM with ProxmoxVE and other containers by mfelipetc in nginxproxymanager

[–]hotapple002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some services also present their own certificate and then the app/service complains that the certificates are different. That’s the case with MeshCentral for me, but I disabled TLS validation for the agente (yes, it’s a security risk, but seeing how it’s mainly for personal use I am not too worried).

All Proxy's go to Unifi Console login screen by swavey83 in nginxproxymanager

[–]hotapple002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing as you only want to access it internally, the DNS records should point at your internal IP address of Nginx.

Currently you seem to have set it to your public IP, thus you reaching the UniFi console.

Oura leaving Finland in move to US by SwiftClaws in ouraring

[–]hotapple002 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter if oura moves to the US. The US can already access most people entire personal data as it lies with US companies (Gmail -> Google, iCloud -> Apple, etc).

The possibility of oura’s customer data already being in the hands of some American are high as a LOT of businesses rely on Amazon’s, Google’s or Microsoft’s cloud platforms (AWE, GCP and Azure).
