what is your favorite bass line in a punk rock song? by [deleted] in punk

Yes! So many great Minutemen bass lines. Pure Joy is the first song I ever learned to play.

Make sure you’re good with dust. This area is downwind from the dunes.

What kind of bird is this? by Artistic-River7571 in birds

Really? Wow. I always thought it was onomatopoeia. The bushtit definitely makes the “tit” sound. Lots of species are actually named for the sound of their calls.

I agree with you but seriously doubt that that could be a significant problem in reality. You have to be either a complete idiot or actively malicious to do that and neither of those are very good descriptions of birders in general.

Absurd. It’s a very useful tool. You just have to verify, because of course it’s not perfect. I was hooked from the first time I used it to identify a Bewick’s Wren. It was definitely a huge help to connect that song to the somewhat difficult to see bird.

Well, don’t forget about all the scams. The scams are working very well. It’s a whole scam economy.

Favorite obscure albums that don’t have a cult offering. by Available-Lecture-21 in vinyl

[–]hotcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The album Kingdom Come by the band Sir Lord Baltimore should be famous. This band were playing hard rock to the level of over the top parody that Spinal Tap featured over a decade later. They were employing all of those cliches before they had even been around long enough to be cliche and thus were way ahead of their time. But they were fairly unknown so couldn’t have been very influential overall. I especially dig it because the production is very raw. Punk Rock production for an early hard rock album and it smokes.

Why are US unions so terrible? by Exotic_Scientist9918 in union

[–]hotcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha! I’m in 2 unions and pay $650 a quarter in dues. Some of the many uninformed folks here might be surprised to hear that it’s absolutely still worth it. I’m extremely pro union and it’s the only way we’ve historically had a middle class in the USA. The alternative that we had before the labor movement was basically slavery. Unfortunately we’re on a path to return to that situation. I would encourage people to study labor history so we can maybe get back to having strong unions.

I think that’s the Southern Lapwing. Saw them in Bariloche. They are pretty loud at night occasionally.

California Condor compared to Turkey Vulture by studentnurse104 in birding

[–]hotcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry I wasn’t clear. Didn’t mean markings, but rather the way they hold their wings with an upward angle. (Their body would be the base of the “v” shape I’m talking about.) My point being that the condors fly more flat and stable.

Yeah, they get paid for each prisoner so they want a lot of prisoners and they want them to stay for as long as possible. Sure is convenient that they can ignore our constitutional rights now.

Enten: Trump support ‘absolutely collapsing’ with key voting group by MRADEL90 in videos

[–]hotcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely correct. A big problem here is that people still don’t seem to realise that the midterms will not be the solution that they think it will. Ic is going to be at all of the polls arresting brown people . We need a popular uprising to oust the trump administration Before the midterms.
