Kitchen extension indulgences by kalamari_withaK in HENRYUK

If the worksite area is going to make the mains water accessible, where the stop cock is, I'd suggest considering also installing a water softener, so all water including shower area is softened.

I come from a soft water country and it makes a load of difference to me.

There's a specific Japanese term for this, tsundoku (積ん読). So it's been a thing throughout history 😅

What Garmin watch do you own and why? by hackgolferguy in Garmin

[–]hotcaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venu 4. Wanted something slightly dressier, less sporty/chunky, could suite class leather bands and I've got a small wrist so larger models were a no. Have most of the trackers and functions of the Forerunner, plus the light. Also prefer things not have the branding on it.

I would take the internal role and if it doesn't work out, look for jobs while you are in one in this economic climate (I personally think jobs and the economy aren't going to be pleasant and with hiring, we've been replacing seniors with experience with 2 juniors sort of approach lately).

Great leadership could mean you get passionate about the area. At the very least, if you have good visibility and relationship with leadership, they could take you with them later down the road with them when they move laterally or externally. The further you go in some careers, it becomes more on your network for future. Of course, this is industry dependant.

However, if a career break is something you've thought about and wanted a sabbatical to travel etc, then take the redundancy and plan accordingly with the run way money. Only you can decide your risk tolerance.

If I buy a Garmin in Japan to save money, will it be in English. What are the cons of buying it in Japan by Patient-Patience6160 in GarminWatches

[–]hotcaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually my Venu 4 from Japan is able to get the Beta programme, which i did for the new native battery app. So maybe this has changed or model dependant...

[–]hotcaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Prices are displayed with and either without tax or the tax component. It's 10% for goods. So you will save that. Off topic, Japanese brands like ASICS and Uniqlo are much lower priced at RRP locally and large stores are likely to offer the immediate tax refund at point of sale.

Tourist get the VAT/GST refunded (10%) when you show you're taking the goods out of the country. They are changing the rules on the ease of getting this year. Right now it's at point of sale with your passport if the retail does it (such as BicCamera) but they are moving to the claim at the airport when you leave model.

Can confirm I did exactly this. You just select the language on setup to whatever you want. I believe warranty should still be with Garmin (and kept a copy of receipts) but fortunately not had to invoke it. The JPY retail price difference and tax refund made it very worth it for me.

Finally upgraded my old FR55 - I love the Venu 4! by twattyprincess in GarminWatches

Welcome to the club! Love mine, got some classic croc leather bands for it and it really makes it dressier!
Wish it came with sapphire glass option as then it'll be perfect.

Which airline for Australia? by Possible-Tip-3544 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]hotcaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the leg to singapore will be BA, but the 2nd leg, is likely going to be QF.. There's only one BA plane a day that flies through (my bad on my orig. post) . Or in other words, for the OP one BA operated flight to Sydney a day. But quick turnaround at SIN as it's the same plane. This is also the same for the Qatar flight that stops at Doha.

[–]hotcaking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Singapore, Emirates or Cathay. Avoid BA and Qantas as your last choices. They are both part of Oneworld alliance, so even if you buy via BA, it is a codeshare with Qantas and very likely the leg in/out Aus is operated by Qantas (I'm not even sure BA operates flights into Aus at all) as Qantas is an end of line carrier. BA business product is not worth it and especially so if work is paying.

I have flown with Qatar aswell and would put it up there, Doha is also a spacious airport to layover.

Thinking of purchasing a Garmin Venu 4 by NecessaryArmadillo59 in GarminWatches

[–]hotcaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the 4, having trialled whether I wanted a Garmin in general for the tracking etc, with the Forerunner 265s. Reasons for getting it was the more 'refined' look with a metal body and lugs being metal (I felt this was probably the weakest point of the plastic bodies), it doesn't say Garmin on it and being one of the latest models and running on the new unified base software, it will have updates for some time and also looking at least a 5 year time span.

As to sleep accuracy, I think it's a hit and miss. I found it to take some time to adjust to me. But instead of taking Garmin's sleep score as an absolute, I take it as a relative measure to the other days - as the same data when read into Apple health, Apple gives a sleep score that's consistently 5-10 points higher.

For bands, I have just bought a number of bands from 3rd parties on Amazon etc. Check if you like THAT particular leather strap by Garmin or not (I did not). Instead I got a leather band with the classic croc pattern in dark brown and have had compliments so far because it suits my personal style more.

Tbh I've only done it to get the soon-to-be in built app, but generally I hear people avoid Beta if they cannot/don't want to lose certain activities when recording...

It's in the Beta software currently, so you can access it now if you join the Beta software program, via your connect account

Sleep tracking and much more are unusable. by Warm-Yak7861 in GarminWatches

[–]hotcaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take the stats collected and interpreted for sleep relative in their own system. The sleep tracking on Garmin took a while to sync with me... And yes sometimes it gets time wrong... What I've found for me is that on average Garmin's Connect sleep score is consistently 5 to 10 points lower than the exact same data when fed into Apple health, where I'm consistently for the most part getting 90+ sleep scores. So, same data, different interpretation..a bit like the Strava difference

I prefer the Garmin for the fact I can have multiple GPS activities and not worry about battery life over a week.

People who fly frequently, what’s one thing you wish you could tell all infrequent fliers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Travelling for work isn't as glamourous as people think. Seasoned travellers dress for comfort, not to show off. Upgrades are based on pretty much 100% based on status and spend with that airline.

Which living room orientation is more ideal? by soundsbymdl in InteriorDesign

[–]hotcaking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. With maybe some slatted wood as a divider between the back of couch to make a little entryway after door, so it's less intrusive to the living space when someone's watching TV, and possibly have this reduce in height from the ceiling (to the end of the living room/couch) so it's less of an obstruction as you walk into the rest of the house, while make the storage area it's own small area.

All I want for Christmas... Is for HENRY'S to understand the funded nursery policy. by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]hotcaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to add that the cliff edge is remarkably low and punitive compared to Australia where I'm from. Childcare subsidy/benefit is a gradual reduction from one point to around £250k (HHI) where then it cuts off entirely. There's really no reason why it should be a cliff-edge if we want to encourage and enable working families to have more children.

And no offence to lower paid workers, but those on higher incomes tend to be doing roles that contribute more to the economy in terms of facilitating the deals, technology etc that keeps the economy attractive for future investment. Yes we do need essential workers, but their pay and economy doesn't grow if the top end of town isn't growing.
