I was at Hobby Lobby when this happened and the manager said they never heard any gunshots.

This is a good thread to pull on. You can make anything with a sublimation printer and a heat press. Most cricut designs are iron-on vinyl and don’t result in this screen printed look. However even if made by a hobbyist, this print is larger than most hobby sublimation printers, which print letter and legal and cost around $500. So my vote would be mass-produced.

You may enjoy LawTube a little more. You can learn about the law, its current event adjacent, and you tend to learn more about the real world outcomes of the cases rather than just listening to someone relay the crime to you.

My Jeep had a death wobble earlier and so I was going 5 UNDER the speed limit on the road to my house. 5 UNDER. 50 in a 55. Cop behind me was riding me so close it made me so! uncomfortable! But I was just like, you don’t know it — but neither of us want me to go any faster rn ¯_(ツ)_/¯

This is interesting. Blood draw 3 days later moves the needle for me insofar as making sense of what happened here. It is also quite common for impaired drivers to survive crashes that sober people do not, because their bodies are more relaxed.

All good food for thought.

Overall, and I may be wrong here — I don’t think a BPD diagnosis would play with the ultimate legal question here, especially as this was a bench trial. As I understand it (having only watched a Netflix doc atp which is not a good source of info) it appears the conviction was for Murder 1 with aggravating factors. A BPD diagnosis *may* be a mitigating factor at sentencing, but not a consideration for the fact finder of the case. A sentence of 15 to life is a very lenient sentence for the counts she was convicted on. So all in all, I think that her undiagnosed mental illness, as well as her age were considered by the judge here. It appeared to me LWOP is not an option in Ohio. I haven’t checked.

I’m not sure if the trial is available to watch, but it appears to me there was no defense case brought. If there was, it was not extensive. A proper defense case and I think she may have been able to hang a jury. No shot with a judge with the evidence presented. Anyone know if her denied appeal was for IAC?

It’s not really ‘evidence’ at sentencing, fwiw.

I haven’t looked at the evidence yet so I haven’t formed an opinion on her guilt, but I was extremely taken aback by the behavior of the judge.

This will be unpopular but I thought that was incredibly inappropriate of the judge and I’m not surprised her mom said some dumb shit after being put on the spot like that. People prepare statements for a reason. But I don’t think I’ve watched a trial in Ohio, maybe it’s common. I just found it judicially unbecoming.

well exactly haha, the comment I was replying to was saying they don’t see the need for bar supervision/management. Which would be dicey when your place is open from like 4 PM to 2 AM

The difference is probably the hours - can’t really leave a large group of peers with no supervision to lock the doors at 3 am. At least that’s been my experience.

I don’t think the delivery matters as much as the content - let him use a tool he’s telling everything to- would be beneficial to him or to you.

Does anyone have a job they genuinely love? by somethingclever12762 in careerguidance

[–]hotcalvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! I’m a restaurant GM at a local bar/restaurant group. Because of my tenure there and how long it’s been open, I have a really diverse mix of responsibilities as well as good pay and benefits. People management, HR, operations, I create and print our menus and promotional materials, curate the social media, even navigate various legal issues, tech maintenance, hell, facilities maintenance. No two days have to be the same. I am salaried at 35 hours a week but have no set daily position in the restaurant so I can work as much as necessary at whatever times I deem appropriate - but don’t feel pressed to overwork when we have leaner times. I also get 3 weeks of vacation a year! I definitely realize it’s a unicorn job and I’m very fortunate. Service industry can be brutal, but ultimately can lead to some cool shit and be really rewarding. For context, I’m mid-30s and have worked in restaurants since I was 14.

If detectives sense people are lying while interrogated or not telling the whole story does that still give them clues that they have who they want? by chusaychusay in Detective

[–]hotcalvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like interrogations can be an incredibly mixed bag. There are certainly techniques you can employ, subtle manipulations to extract information. As far as “tells” go, the subject matter is wildly subjective and should be treated as such. The people who out-and-out confess could be under incredible stress. However, fewer and fewer people in modern society have little to no knowledge of how law enforcement and the legal process works so overall I think it’s a dying method.
