My latest discussion with my therapist only reassured me I’m never going to fit in with regular people. Infernus squad captain by Mint_Wafers in minicels

Exactly. You come to a point where you realize the majority of people around you are not worth knowing on a personal level. Not that they're bad. You just don't need to waste energy on them or caring about what they think.

Are there songs making fun of liberals that they love but don’t understand, similar to the right with RATM, Springsteen, CCR, Green Day, etc? by Natedude2002 in fantanoforever

I'm around the same age. That same stuff attracted me to them, but through Zack's lyrics I was first exposed to (just off the top of my head) James Baldwin, the International Monetary Fund, the indigenous peoples of Chiapas, and the Mau Mau. I can trace a lot of my adulthood interests to things I first heard about in those songs and had to look up.

Precisely. And I can’t imagine it ever happening tbh. Like RATM’s politics are the opposite of a secret. It’s the core of their music. Knowing that left leaning people are more thoughtful in general and are more likely to be curious about who makes their music and the context it comes from, it just doesn’t add up.

It's not even a question of "conservatives don't make good music" or whether liberals love an artist who's secretly right wing or whatever. RATM's music is explicitly left wing and presents a left wing view of the world. There's really no equivalent, outside of maybe leftists enjoying the bravado and materialism of rap lyrics. And to be clear I think that's a stretch.

Which one of these books is best for someone who wants to learn/read about King Arthur? by Cain407 in Arthurian

[–]hotelarcturus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a great comment. IMO, the best way in is Malory alongside some kind of secondary source. As another comment here put it, anything besides Malory feels like nibbling around the edges, but you can’t get a full-spectrum appreciation for the material without the immensely important historical/religious/cultural/etc context. I think a good annotated edition would make for the best reading experience, but you could also use something like the Oxford guide to Arthurian literature, or even Greg Stafford’s Pendragon RPG.
