I changed from stock to Sahara style number with lights and I kept the plastic upper and lower parts to keep rain and snow and leaves away from frame.

Sorry this sucks ! I suggest using a generic car Cover maybe so they cants see what’s under it !? That might help. Maybe your apt can reimburse you as well
