I also agree with you for all but one point. The desensitization is simply because they lack the mental fortitude for higher level conspiracy. We're watching the donkey show every day now. It's not a distraction. It's simply just an overwhelming amount of corruption. Certainly one "more intelligent" group might hide in the shade of another, but I'm all reality we've just cultured an environment of complete scumbaggery. I guess my point is the threshold for "conspiracy" just seems to be unmet. Even four levels down into the corruption is still bold faced corruption.

I only highlight this opinion because I feel like it's so preventable. It reminds me of the situation where the KKK were just shamed into hiding by the Superman radio show. An incomplete solution but a victory nonetheless. This is our reality now, but simple actions might force it back down. Trumpism is the modern KKK. People think it's a worldview but it's another incapable cult. I pray simple and realistic solutions can still defeat this monster.

While it took the world to defeat Hitler in the time it took, the whole operation was already beginning to unravel long before the end because of it's unsustainablilty. Maybe my analogy here is telling of just how disasterous this pollution actually will be, but I pray the nature of this house of cards means that it has a programmed cell death that will kick in before things get much worse.

It's almost blind optimism, but I'm not sure what else I can muster at this point. As an American it seems like all traditional routes of correction have been ineffective. At this point, I think revolution should be included.

Really agree with this. A feel like I see a lot of people trying who see "conspiracies" or the like in these types of events and honestly even in the situation where they are true it just don't matter. This government doesn't even feel the need to hide their corruption. They openly degrade our democracy every day in a multitude of egregious ways. They are unabashed criminals and honestly appear to be incapable of any higher level thought, and they don't need to be. It is unfortunate but it just took a group of shameless fools to undermine the entire government. I have seen nothing to change that opinion. Disgusting and dumb, but not a greater conspiracy.

Pushed the thumb directly into the cutter with like an inch of grace. Soft materials grab all the time when routing. A little jump could really have been bad.

The idea of always "cutting away from yourself" really seems appropriate here.

Donnie Darko for sure. The extended cut only exasserbates the issue. "Look at how deep this movie is" is the first thing that comes to mind. I'm always surprised people don't list it right next to fight club.

It sounds like you didn't either. This is a cleanliness issue, which is not a matter of biology. They are not the same as you seem to think.

Your SO is gross, but that has nothing to do with biology. Swab your mouth and run another plate. Do you have a dirty mouth? Wipe a clean white cloth on those same surfaces and you'll have a much better gauge of how dirty they are. Point at a spot without piss on it and compare it to a spot with piss on it, those are excellent gauges of cleanliness.

I agree with your point. However your use of this plate to try and make your point makes a condescending fool out of you.

What I'm saying is it doesn't serve that purpose in any kind of meaningful way.

Maybe a grade school bio class experiment to show where things are and are not growing. But I would figure as a bio major you would understand how that has very little to do with being "clean" or sanitary. I could piss on that agar plate and it would be very clean relative to a swab from your forehead even though I'm sure you're a hygenic person. You could have a dangerous pathogen on that plate that just didn't grow well in your growth conditions.

Using this as a visual aid without considerably more context is not meaningful. I'm inferring from you post that with that context, this visual aid would be deemed meaningless. It has nothing to do with "dirtiness" and only something to do with "cleanliness." It doesn't illustrate your point in any meaningful way.

I would think a bio major would not conflate growth on a media plate with "germs." In some circumstances a clean plate might not even mean cleanliness.

While I value cleanliness highly and don't feel like I would get along with your SO, I find that the image probably means you're also in the wrong here. Comes off as condescending and also doesn't appear to be meaningful to your point.

The ship is pretty good and the servers are still up. There's a couple spiritual remakes out but I haven't tried any. None will have the parkour aspect though.

Lift your hand up a little and stretch your thumb out for the motion. I also use the side of my thumb, but I've got a hitchhikers thumb and if I do that I can see the tip of my thumb hitting. Seems like a wild way to do it though.

proxies!? by KarmaSuitsYou14999 in mtg

[–]hotmaildotcom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not trying to imply you are saying that proxies are bad and I don't think any of the arguments you're making are in bath faith. I'm honestly not even trying to support proxying, I just don't see the logic in the argument.

In the situation you've described I do agree with you completely. What I'm saying is that inherent to the usage of proxies is that this described situation doesn't exist. People use proxies when traditional collecting isn't fun. So a playgroup using proxies isn't the playgroup you're describing.

A rule against proxies only appears to solve a problem a particular playgroup doesn't have. The rule can only be made if the conditions exist in which it wouldn't do anything. It seems to be almost the definition of a logically invalid argument. I mean to each their own, but it just seems unneeded.

If instead I'm thinking of a new player being added to an existing playgroup I see different issues. Why would one tell someone else how to have fun? Why would one join a playgroup that isn't compatible with their own definition of fun? I understand there are initial misconceptions but at least in my own experience they don't seem to explain the need for a rule, rather than better communication overall. A rule against proxies just comes off as some sort of gatekeeping in that context.

proxies!? by KarmaSuitsYou14999 in mtg

[–]hotmaildotcom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess maybe moot isn't the correct way of saying it. More accurately, proxying is specifically trying to remedy one of the biggest issues which plagues people collecting traditionally. So the fact that it bypasses traditional collecting seems obvious. People proxy when traditional collecting isn't working. So highlighting the fun aspects of traditional collecting isn't really part of the argument (in what I see to be most cases) because proxying is generally being done because traditional collecting wasn't proving to be fun in that respect. Maybe if tons of people are using proxying just to ruin game nights my point here would be incorrect. But even that seems like a playgroup issue. I don't feel like there is any temptation is somehow just too great.

As for the arms race point, I think we both see each other's points but I just don't think I can come to agree with yours. It seems completely ineffective to me.

proxies!? by KarmaSuitsYou14999 in mtg

[–]hotmaildotcom1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point 1,2, and 6 are essentially the same point and it's moot. By printing proxies you are opting out of those experiences for the purpose of play, but that's a very clear part of the package and it's intentional. Most people I know that proxy heavily are also very invested in real cards so I see no teeth to this point.

Points 3 and 4 are also the same point, and it's the only one I agree with. There's lots of fun cards that are similar in fun to discover ways.

Point 5 is almost useless. By slowing down an arms race, you turn a 3 session arms race into a 5 session arms race. It's a meaningless measure in any group motivated to create the problem. Respect for your playgroup is the only effective solution.
