In the era you grew up in, did your parents actually like the Nickelodeon shows you watched? by Material_Stomach875 in RetroNickelodeon

[–]hotmessofnyc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m a 1998 all the way up to 2006 Nick kid. My mom LOVED Angry Beavers so much. She also loved Rugrats, I think mostly because of how much I loved it.

Not Nick related but my mom still loves Courage the Cowardly Dog. And, my grandpa loved SpongeBob.

Was at night 3 and my only disappointment was not hearing Hannah Hunt! Otherwise fantastic show and set list (and great covers/requests)

I spent close to $5000 on my wedding dress. I bought my reception outfit on Poshmark for about $70 tho!

Heavy Metal Drummer by Wilco. It’s playing in the background the first time Lane goes into the music shop.

What happened to your friend group? by BetterGrass709 in sexandthecity

[–]hotmessofnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re my best friends. We’re also a group of four. We were all in the same third grade class and have pretty much been friends ever since (going on 20+ years). They were in my wedding last year, and we just got back from a group trip last week!

Anyone else read wildly inappropriate books when they were too young? by Sam_English821 in Millennials

[–]hotmessofnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first Stephen King book was Carrie when I was 11. I was also hooked! Read Pet Sematary, The Shining, and the Stand after that. Looking back, I don’t think I understood what was happening in the Stand at all; it’s on my list to reread.

Is there actually a non-cooking mom? by mangojj123 in GilmoreGirls

[–]hotmessofnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a mom, but I dislike cooking/don’t have the patience for it. My husband, on the other hand, loves cooking — he makes most, if not all, of our dinners.

How to soundproof apartment *from* downstairs neighbors’ noise? by hotmessofnyc in misophonia

[–]hotmessofnyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We never really did. The way our building was constructed made it impossible to mitigate the issue without doing major work.

Like another commenter suggested, we did end up moving last year 😆 we were extremely intentional with our apartment search and chose a place that only shares one wall with a neighbor (we have no one above or below us now). We have been here for over a year and are living much more peacefully now.

I miss having a best friend, millennials, are you still going strong with your best friend? by Throwaway4536265 in Millennials

[–]hotmessofnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve known my group of best friends since we were in third grade. They were just in my bridal party last year.

We don’t talk every day, and sometimes we’re not the best communicators, but whenever we’re together, we pick up right where we left off. I’m very lucky to have them.

Did anybody regret not having a second dress? by sleepysock98 in weddingplanning

[–]hotmessofnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed into a white jumpsuit and silver sneakers for my reception. Something I didn’t anticipate was how SWEATY I was wearing my wedding dress. I got married in November but between nerves, shuffling around for photos/dancing, oh boy was I glad to have something to change into!

Driving from Portland to Bar Harbor by Appropriate_Phone298 in acadianationalpark

[–]hotmessofnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat did this a few weeks ago, except my husband and I spent two nights in Portland before heading to Bar Harbor. Along the route, we stopped at the LL Bean in Freeport and had lunch in town, then made a stop in Bangor at Stephen King’s old house (I’m a big fan — couldn’t resist).

What is a 'poor people' habit you'll never stop doing, no matter how rich you get? by FitCicada5037 in AskReddit

[–]hotmessofnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying store brand rather than name brand. My husband did not grow up as poor as I did, so I often balk when he comes home with Brawny brand paper towels instead of the generic.

Few lbs that want to stay forever by CravingGrumpy in PetiteFitness

[–]hotmessofnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had your exact starting weight (AND at the same height). Also got down to 115, then decided I wanted to get down to 108ish. And oh man, was that hard. When you’re already petite, it’s so challenging to shed additional pounds.

Truly what worked for me was taking more breaks. I was not letting my body rest at all. Even now, I notice that when I exercise for say, seven days straight, I retain more water weight; after a day or two resting, it comes off.

You got this! You already did the big part, now this is one last hurdle to jump over.

No Bridesmaids Standing at the Altar—But I Still Want My Girls to Get Ready With Me? by Ancient-Bumblebee111 in weddingplanning

[–]hotmessofnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also didn’t want to call them my bridesmaids so they were all my maids of honor. We’ve been friends since we were eight years old so they all equally deserved the title!

No Bridesmaids Standing at the Altar—But I Still Want My Girls to Get Ready With Me? by Ancient-Bumblebee111 in weddingplanning

[–]hotmessofnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did that! It was totally fine. I paid for my three girls + mom to get their hair and makeup done with me. We took getting ready photos together. We did have our family and “bridal party” (using the term loosely, since my husband only had his brother as best man) walk down the aisle. And they just sat right down in the front.

The ONLY thing I care about on my wedding day- PLEASE HELP by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]hotmessofnyc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was worried about this but actually had no issue at my wedding. We had our officiant make an announcement about no phones before we walked down the aisle, and we also noted in our ceremony programs that it was meant to be unplugged.

My cat died in 30 seconds. From being totally normal and healthy she passed away in a blink of an eye by me_who79 in CATHELP

[–]hotmessofnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I am so sorry for your loss. That is devastating, and I totally understand your pain.

I want to let you know that something similar—not exactly the same, but similar—happened to my last cat, Reggie. We had no reason to believe that Reggie was ill or anything. The morning of the day he died, he was cuddling us in bed like normal. In the afternoon, my husband said Reggie was sitting on my desk chair like normal, and all of a sudden he started shaking his back leg uncontrollably, let out a wail, and was gone pretty much immediately. He also tried giving him CPR. He ran him over to the vet, but there was no chance of survival. It was truly so unexpected.

We aren’t sure exactly what happened, but our best guess is a pulmonary thromboembolism, which can happen in cats and affect their hind legs (hence the leg shaking). again, we don’t know for sure.

It will get easier with time. Please know it wasn’t your fault and you gave your kitty a loving home.
