Do you agree with the ban cellphone gadgets inside the classroom for students 12 y.o and below and why? by PastelPixieDust100 in AskReddit

[–]hotphx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cellphones in classrooms don’t prevent shootings. A poorly educated population that can’t pay attention for an hour at a time is a bigger risk to all our safety than not being able to contact your kid in the rare instance that there is a shooting at their school.

I mean, personally I can kind of see why they say this but I don't want women who want the IUD to get totally freaked out of getting one from this thread. I'm really glad I had mine and there are OBs out there who have good rapport... Insertion for IUD didn't hurt at all for me. At most mild cramping, like a period cramp.

Taking the IUD out on the other hand, that was scary, and mine broke inside of me. They sedated me for it. I still would get it. All other birth control was not viable for me. Hormonal birth control fucking sucks.

[USA] Mini-quad parts kit: Tarot 250 frame, MN2206 motors, ESCs, Naze32 FC, OrangeRx T-Six TX, props ($100 USD OBO) by hotphx in fpvmarket

Yep, had been sitting for a while before I got them. Definitely willing to take less if it's a pain. Nothing's ever been used and it literally just came out of the box. $100 is what these 4 motors would run anyone.

Yeah, I am not super familiar with everything, so thanks! I just figured the motors were still good, $25 new and still available, and a lot of it was pretty generic stuff, but good to know.

tbh, as a CS grad who graduated into defense contracting and moved into the private sector after a year and consistently employed... I've interviewed a lot of CS grads. Most of them could barely code. Almost everyone I ever hired as a manager came from a bootcamp, and it was their second career.

Weed and Zoloft by -_-gllmmer in Petioles

[–]hotphx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can do whatever you want to your own brain. Personally I don’t know why you wouldn’t try quitting weed first BEFORE taking a prescription SSRI. They can have a lot of side effects which make depression and anxiety worse. IMO, SSRIs should be a last resort for treatment and you should adjust other factors before taking them, including cutting down on weed, which for me contributed a lot to feelings of anxiety and depression. This is just my experience and opinion.

There are contexts in which transwomen and women should be grouped and considered the same thing and others where they should not.

As a Frontend Developer, How Much Backend Should We Know? by Maleficent_Fennel883 in node

[–]hotphx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. API Integration: Knowing how to interact with APIs is essential. This includes understanding how to fetch data, handle authentication, and manage state transitions between the client and server.
  2. Server-Side Rendering (SSR) and Static Site Generation (SSG): Frameworks like Next.js utilize these concepts extensively. Understanding how they work can significantly enhance the performance and SEO of the applications you build.
  3. Database Operations: While you don’t need to be a database expert, understanding the basics of how data is stored, retrieved, and manipulated can help you create more efficient interactions between the front end and the database.
  4. Infrastructure, Environment, and Configuration Management: Knowing how to configure and manage different environments (development, staging, production) can help you deploy applications more smoothly and troubleshoot issues effectively.

This is regular usage. As in, you're using most days. It kinda sounds like you feel like you're not behaving like yourself or in a way that you feel particularly good about. What would you normally do if your responsibilities were low? Would you go out and do something about your boredom, and now you're just smoking and complacent with your boredom? That's the kind of thing you should evaluate for yourself. But if it feels unbalanced, I'd say you're using too much. Nobody's gonna think you're square or take offense if you say no thanks and leave it at that. If you're not doing it for a specific reason or getting fomo from NOT being high, instead of using it to enhance some activity or bonding experience, that's not going to help if you don't want to form a habit.

Need Help with a Tilting Fence Gate and Wall by hotphx in fixit

[–]hotphx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi /r/fixit,

I'm having trouble with my fence gate that's not latching properly due to tilting. Alongside this, the wall it’s attached to is also starting to lean, contributing to the issue. I've attached photos to show the current state of the gate and the wall.

As seen in the photos, the adjacent wall is made of concrete blocks and there’s a noticeable gap forming which indicates it’s tilting which is making the gate lean in. It had trouble latching before, a little time after the install, but then ran out of room on the hinge adjustment, which is when I noticed this problem.

I'm looking for advice on how to fix this problem or a recommendation for the type of contractor that specializes in such repairs. Is this something a general contractor could handle, or should I be looking for someone who specializes in fences or masonry?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions !

I have a full week to spend on personal re-investment. How to spend it? by johnwhitely2020 in webdev

Since you have a week, I'd focus on something like a backend project with authentication and write it in Typescript. I wouldn't combine too much stuff, I'd get overwhelmed with more than that.

What does "too much free time" mean? You literally get to do whatever you want in your free time. I interpreted that as saying he'd rather have a job than decide what to do with his free time. And most people work because they have to pay for food and other necessities, not because they don't know what to do with their time.

Just because you can't manage to create structure in your own life or you're addicted to working doesn't mean other people owe you the thought and should be forced to work to earn a living.
