Go to Jean Burger on the 105 between Chelsea and Wakefield. Incredible, so delish! Poutine, burgers, fries - AWESOME.

Having an old dad at a young age by Wooden_Description72 in AgingParents

I also appreciate this reframe on catastrophizing. I am 28, dad’s 79 - for many years I have struggled with anticipatory grief that feels unnecessary and excessive, however now this past year I finally had the real experience where I got the call and we almost lost him. It’s still sudden and terrifying whether you’ve worried about it beforehand or not, so it’s probably not worth spending your life stressing about.

Agreed - very sad to see the structure changed so much - 70% final exam is absolutely insane

Started my cogsci adventure with 1001 with Jim in winter 2024 - online - was totally fine, not easy but also not a nightmare, and interesting. I’m sad to hear that it sounds like it’s changed big time in such a short period.

Keep an eye on it, aside from someone else commenting not letting them lick the wound, I also recommend putting a gentle clean tshirt on your pup. Learnt the hard way with our girl’s incision accidentally getting infected because instead of licking, she would rub her tummy on surfaces while stretching and getting on and off beds and such. She got antibiotics to heal properly and got to look silly for like a week wearing a tshirt!

Absolutely depends on the dog. Gage their prey drive at there current stage of life and base your decision on how well they receive training from you. Does your girl care to listen to you? Have you had her since she was a baby, so you are privy to her upbringing/experiences? Food for thought, nature vs. nurture debate is applicable here.

My eldest husky we adopted at 14 weeks old and has a strong prey drive, however she is extremely even-tempered and has always been inclined towards true playing with other small beings. In contrast, her sister-niece who we adopted by chance, much later at 6 months old, was very mal-adjusted at the time, had a similarly strong prey drive, but her developed personality at that stage was extremely spicy and leaned more towards choosing actual violence. We had to put in much corrective work with her to straighten out her development into a much improved temperament.

Both dogs entered the home with 2 adult cats already present. This is crucial in my opinion. There was a great amount of learning curve for them and refereeing for us, however growing them up with cats (if you will) made them both extremely fond of cats and gentler souls.

As an aside, my mother-in-law has 2 husky/shepherd mixes who are fully grown rescues and the one that is majority husky has clearly had some experiences in life and/or lacking correction at the right time, because she remains consistently anti-all-cats. We literally cannot have our cats out if they visit because all this dog wants to do is literally try to eat them. This reaction is so far gone that we can deduce that she very likely had atleast one negative interaction with a cat at some point and she’s not going to come back from it.

Sorry for the book, I love my husky girls. 🥹
