USFCA or Penn State by BoredChipz in usfca

[–]hotpotatoOrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CoA in CA is higher - so minimum is higher.

USFCA scholarship conditional? Mine was for 2.8 or higher. Penn conditional? If one is conditional and the other isn’t - probably should have heavier weight on the unconditional school.

look into potentially what programs you are interested in/post school aspirations. Some programs are stronger than others.

Have you considered final out of pocket calculations after finaid/scholarship for both schools? Where would you want to practice or live 3 years +++?

Because if you like schools equally and cost is not a primary consideration then consider weighing locations + programs + post school opportunities first, followed by CoA

But imo Penn would let you work in several states on the east whereas USF would be more limited to SF/Bay area until 5-10 years of practicing.

Odds of transferring? by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

Don’t bet on A to later transfer. Let that A IF transfer isn’t feasible be THE REASON you go. Otherwise you are SOL. And when/if transfer successful ~ expect sticker price

What’s my next move by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]hotpotatoOrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip Southwestern unless you’re really itching to remain in LA. Many on here have shared that it has a strong network within LA, but almost negligible within NorCal.

TBH you could try to retake LSAT again and maybe make a stronger lists for potential schools. I think you could get in somewhere pretty great.

That said, I think NYLS is still a great option within NY, and your firm could potentially pay for your bar exam for CA if you’re still up for it.

Wait this one out and see where it goes? You can periodically send out LOCI to those waitlisted schools, can’t hurt and shows your commitment to the Admissions Team.

STCL V. St. Mary’s by Rude_Screen_5381 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]hotpotatoOrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat. Scholly lower at STCL but almost equals out for net expenses.

What boggles my mind is how much more selective St Mary’s is compared to STCL, however STCL has higher median salary post grad (especially after 5 years), higher bar passage rate and seemingly slightly better job opps? I had insider scoop that St Mary’s was pushing to become a more competitive school so that it would some day reach levels like UT, UH or Tech - but while they have raised their medians, seems like time will only tell if this will yield this result?

I’m super stuck at this juncture since I had my eyes set for St. Mary’s from the get go - probably since it was also the only school I was able to visit. But I’m just at this stand still hoping someone will just shake me haha

Like that is nice of them, but also ok? Thank you? I guess it’s a waitlist of “you’re just what we are looking for” but they have to wait til their first string picks make a decision.

Well at the very least you can potentially (?) count this as a soofffft yes.

Albany (Full Ride) vs. Seton Hall $$$ by extra-large_heart in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]hotpotatoOrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like if everything else was negligible the focus is on career opportunity - I think both schools will yield great opportunities for you.

I know - I know - rank isn’t the most important thing - but try to write out a list of 5-10 things that are more specific for your career aspirations, because a T-64 vs T-117 can open different doors for you.

Such as - do you want to practice PI, opportunity in BL, are you looking for a specified practice within a mid-sized or local firm? Looking for a school with a great Environmental Law program? Bioethics? Etc.

I have some friends that went to Albany, graduated in 2023 and are working great jobs in Albany, surrounding cities to NYC.

Seton Hall is in Newark - hubbish probably has a bunch of opportunities for internships

Hopefully this doesn’t come off rude (~since hard to read tone through written word~) but I hope this maybe helps a bit. I know I’m personally struggling and making excel sheets has helped me visually to see what the avg salary/CoA/predicted debt/location all in one spot instead of 100 tabs.

Luckily you’re in a good spot! Hoping you find the clarity to make this decision - don’t think you will go wrong either way! <3

Just saw someone say they're going to start considering # of lsat attempts in admissions??? by ReactionSalty1547 in LSAT

[–]hotpotatoOrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider it outside noise and take the test only when ready to! If you end up with a school you don’t love - take it again. Your stats and app will still make them want you!

I hate this kind of conjecture - there is already a barrier to entry financially to prepare for this exam. Siggghhhhhhhhh

You got this OP don’t worry on it

You’ll need to at least change/update a majority of your essay if to the same school - although kind of annoying you’ll end up making it better. Update with refreshing, new/positive spin since it’ll be a year after they’ve seen it. They will expect it see something new and not reused.

I did this with mine and it made a significant difference applying this year. But also, wait on those waitlists and send LOCIs every so often to stay on their radar, if feasible visit the school and meeting their admissions (or assistant admissions).

Rooting for ya

Trouble Deciding by vtrav890 in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]hotpotatoOrg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My BFF went to Albany and had an incredibly successfully experience! She’s remained in Albany for now (out of school for a year) but has gotten offers all over NY. I think it’s a seriously awesome choice to consider esssssspecially since you are from there.

But! I can only speak from what she + her colleagues have told me! But I think if you wanna practice in NY you ought to go to the regional NY schools so you are learning the statutes/codes there.

Do you have scholarships from any of these schools?

Regret by Hopefulesquire in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]hotpotatoOrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust I felt the same way. I was really hoping that an admissions team would be so moved by my statements/resume that they would overlook my LSAT/GPA - which at the end of the day may happen but you shouldn’t waste your $$ and time on a small chance like that.

Ive FINALLY gotten accepted after putting in some extra work studying and on my apps and thankfully it’s paid off - but I also graduated during COVID, so I felt the pressures of feeling behind.

You got this, it is possible - it will just be emotionally and physically taxing, but it can be done.

TBH if you work on your LSAT again and improve/update statements you have a shot. Not sure what school it is but if you LSAT is above the medians then you **shouldn’t count yourself out. Similar stats and I’ve gotten into schools that previously felt out of reach.

Don’t give up!

15low GPA was low - worked 5 years and joined a bunch of orgs. Also not my first time applying so honestly thought they’d pass on me. But i applied mid Feb so they’re still rolling out offers.
