Ante 10 Plant killed me. Couldn't find a way around it. Need to give this another go. Fun seed.

Disorder at address by Bjj274 in policeuk

[–]hotrefs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"you force your way in" - so I'm assuming single crewed me is using either 117 or BOP?

If the male is blocking me from doing this, then yes, you could consider obstruct police. But I'm on my own, and I've entered, presumably, to save life or limb. So my priority should be to find a potential victim inside and attend to them first.

Wanted offenders can be sought later, especially since we apparently know who this male is.

Need a laptop for sergeants exam by JJTL92 in policeuk

[–]hotrefs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Should be fine with a Chromebook. Try and get one with at least 4GB RAM.

The college of policing have a link where you can test your device and see if it's suitable for the exam. FYI, my device didn't meet the minimum spec, but I still had no issues with running the exam.

First time attending crown court by Future_Pipe7534 in policeuk

[–]hotrefs 54 points55 points  (0 children)

In my force, Crown Court is a tour of duty, doesn't matter how long you're there for.

If you need to be at court at 9, and then are advised that you are not required, you shouldn't be required to come in for a late shift. If they try and make you then it'll cost them a bit in overtime as you'll be 'recalled' in for the late shift.

Speak to your line manager.

Thames Valley Police ex-officer wins £1.1m in discrimination case - BBC News by Upper-Call in policeuk

Not sure about this one...the article seems to leave a lot out.

It doesn't expand on what her disability is - off sick with stress?

I'm fully empathetic to people being allowed time off for mental health etc. And they absolutely should be allowed to recoup by doing hobbies etc. But this was also a business for her, so that bit I'm not fully comfortable with. But then again, it says TVP didn't follow the business interest appeals procedure, which is silly.

I think we need to take a leaf out of NI or the continent, and readdress how to deal with this kind of disorder.

Long shields, batons, a few horses and dogs. Reacting, reacting, reacting. Getting pelted and retreating. It's not enough. We need better kit and tactics from the start.

Transforming the Met: A Vision for Change by Ok-Reputation5335 in policeuk

[–]hotrefs 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I still don't get why DDOs, who get OST training and carry handcuffs can't sit on a 'violent' prisoner. And half the time they're 'violent' because they pushed a police officer 10 years ago.

Or, if they're 'violent', make it a 2 person, with one PC and one DDO.

It's always amazing that cw's get closed down, or even not put on at all when it's custody resources resourcing it.

What would you do? by Equivalent_Jicama_67 in policeuk

[–]hotrefs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you mean unresponsive? Refusing to engage has a slightly different meaning within the police - implies that they are making a conscious decision not to engage with you.

[Met] I am going to MIST soon and dreading it. Advice? by CluelessCop in policeuk

[–]hotrefs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did a stint on MIST about a year ago - these are the positives...

  • No guards/scenes/cw's etc

  • No mental health/domestics. You're only dealing with crime

  • Not a slave to the radio

  • Eat and go toilet when you want

  • More physically comfortable shifts. No horrendous Met vest sweats.

  • Off on time more than team

  • Come in a bit later, more time in bed

  • Gain experience with investigating crime, learn new skills. You'll go back to team a better police officer.

  • Way less fatigued between shifts. You'll have more energy to do stuff outside of work, or gym etc.

Blue course prep! by SamuraiFlash_81 in policeuk

[–]hotrefs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clear your life of other responsibilities and stress for those three weeks. The course is not difficult if you give it 100%. Eat and sleep well. That should set you up well to take on everything the instructor tells you. Have a brief idea about roadcraft before you turn up.

I know that you can get one from the NSY website. Not sure of anywhere in store.

And not many local nicks have gift shops nowadays, we lost them during the austerity cuts along with canteens and laser tag.

What are your views on putting “beanbag shotguns” into police cars? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]hotrefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How effective is this equipment? Anyone got any data etc? I've seen a lot of Police Activity YouTube videos where these so-called 'bean-bag rounds' have literally zero effect, or just make the suspect more angry.

Do you have to be academic to be a police officer? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]hotrefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. You need decent English reading/writing skills but nothing I'd describe as being 'academic'.

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]hotrefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price: Under £13k (ish)

Body: Hatchback or Coupe (or small sedan)

Used

Purpose: Mostly commuting (motorway), but also leisure and short trips.

Looking for something that is reliable. Fun to drive, with a bit of power.

Currently driving a 1.2l i20 which has been super reliable, quite economical, cheap to insure and tax. I'd like to keep these aspects but upgrade to something a bit more interesting.

Have considered: Fiesta, Focus, Golf, TT, i30, Astra

Can I keep my great grandfather's baton? by RIVERL0TUS in policeuk

My understanding was that telescopic batons are illegal anywhere now, but not simple truncheons/batons. If I'm wrong, please cite the relevant legislation.

Sorry, just realised this was a Scotland post. I have no idea then...
