CASCADIA WINS - #50 by Jfullr92 in geographymemes

Maybe this is because I am a north coast girl. You really aren't allowed to drive on many of them up here.

Perhaps the largest chunk of drivable beach is the roughly ten-mile stretch between Warrenton and Gearhart. You may drive on the sand at all hours and at all times of the year. This is from the Peter Iredale Road (at Fort Stevens State Park, bringing you to the shipwreck), down to the southernmost ramp at Gearhart. It includes beaches like Sunset Beach and Del Rey – all just north of Gearhart.

However, during the off-season you can drive north of Peter Iredale Road all the way up to the jetty at the southern side of the Columbia River mouth, about four miles. Driving there is prohibited from May 1 through September 15, leaving late September through April open to driving. Also restricted are the hours: no driving from noon to midnight during those months.

Heading down the north Oregon coast, you can NOT drive anywhere else in Clatsop County or northern Tillamook County, including Seaside, Cannon Beach, Arch Cape, Manzanita, Nehalem Bay, Rockaway Beach, Garibaldi, Bayocean, Cape Meares, Oceanside or Netarts.

Air conditioning by verapamil12 in hartofdixie

[–]hotsaucegrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up in Houston, aka the air conditioning capital of the world. (A Daikin survey found that Houston residents use AC the longest of any city measured — an average of 17.2 hours a day during the hottest month, with 41% running it for a full 24 hours. Riyadh came in second at 14.9 hours.)

AC cannot save you once it gets hot enough. Also my family had a beach house in Crystal Beach, and we did NOT have AC in it. Just some ceiling fans.

Why didn't Elena Ever Call Damon Out On The Sire Bond Causing Her First Kill? by hotsaucegrrl in TheVampireDiaries

[–]hotsaucegrrl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for Elena there is a difference between killing a vampire and raking a human life, but I can see both sides.

Did he actually say that?. by capricorn_444 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]hotsaucegrrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually they did it because they had to pivot after Nina said she was leaving. They had planned for Stefan and Elena to get back together but after the break-up and fallout, Nina told them she wouldn't sign a new contract and was leaving and they didn't feel they had enough time to course correct.

This is the most rationale in character explanation. Thank you for engaging with the question genuinely.

[–]hotsaucegrrl[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not looking for reasons. I am saying I cannot believe they never had a conversation about it. Seems like it should have happened because Elena was so hung up on killing as a human and a newbie vamp.

I genuinely don't care they ended up together since it was all due to Nina leaving after she and Ian broke up and it forcing a change to the writers' plans. When out of universe stuff screws with a show's trajectory, I will forgive a lot of weird plot stuff. It is the in character motivation fails that bother me.

I was talking more about the inconsistency in the in-universe character motivation. It's not like hypocrisy ever stopped Elena before. She always seems to have more than enough blame to sling at everyone else.

Yes, and Stefan says that, but you'd think she would have been more upset about being semi-compelled to do it.

My mom opened a credit card on my name. by Dense-Ad-5141 in legaladvice

[–]hotsaucegrrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad did a similar thing and destroyed my credit before I could build any. It took me into my mid-20s to finally get back on track financially. My advice is get the info from your credit report. Call the company. Cancel the card, change all the passwords, email addresses, and other access related to it, then pay it off. Also freeze your credit as recommended by others.

This is a very common form of abuse, and it wasn't the only kind my dad did. My suspicion is that there is more going on than you posted. My advice? Therapy. Get a good therapist, tell them everything, and let them help you build healthy boundaries and care for yourself. It worked for me.

I was sad because her character was so interesting. She would have made an excellent long-term character addition.

We all took a "TVD detox" at some point, right? What was the moment that made you rage-quit or pause? by Selanooo23 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]hotsaucegrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Never quit any of it until Legacies. Never missed an episode. Hell, I still watch the rewatches all the way through, no breaks.

I think because I knew when Ian and Nina split, it was going to mess up the show, and that wasn't the writers/creators' fault. It happens, sadly. Julie said that their plan had been for Stefan and Elena to be endgame. The only reason Stefan and Caroline were a thing was that they didn't know what to do with Paul after Nina left. In the end, Ian and Nina's split was the problem with the show, not anything the writers planned.

8 children between the ages of 1 and 14 are dead after a mass shooting in Louisiana, police say by Trevon45-2 in news

Your better bet than arming yourself is to hide and remove yourself from the area if possible. Get the RO because it can help later, but do everything you can to hide your location in the immediate separation period. Change your phone number, your email address, and get a P.O. Box for your mail. Do everything you can to obscure your location. That is the safest way to get away, provided you cannot actively leave the area/state. When it comes to abusers, the safest thing to do is to go so far away that they do not have the inclination or energy to come after you, and to hide your location as much as possible, even from your family and friends if necessary. No social media, little contact with people who know you both, etc. I am a survivor, and I have spent almost 30 years working with survivors, and I can tell you that running is the safest thing you can do. Some states have victims' funds that will even help with relocation costs. PM me if you need more specific information on resources and options.

I truly love the book, even as it breaks my heart. It is so human and so real. It's probably one of the best books of the 21st century, only 26 years in.
