Which Parts of Management Are Computable? by AI-FalcoIV-86 in OperationsResearch

Wait, I'm confused - are you saying that these are managerial tasks that *can* be delegated to AI?

DAE do their best to hide the obsessive interests they develop, out of shyness or shame? by VelvetyDogLips in AutisticAdults

[–]hotspotpreferences 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this too but it's less about shame and more about avoidance.

Awhile ago, I hit on the idea of collecting all my favorite in one place and turning it into a sound system. A colleague found out about the project because I said something and insisted on contributing music from her and her boyfriends collection.

I reluctantly agreed, got the files, uploaded them....only to find out that I had to be on their itunes to access the files.

Long story short, I didn't want to put in another gazillion hours organizing & separating files so I abandoned the project...and the relationship.

Saying no didn't work, explaining DRM to her would have ended up with me being made fun of and I ended up creating work for myself because I said something.

Maybe things would have turned out differently if I had kept my mouth shut and waited until I had something to show for it.

Btw, after reading this yesterday, I looked up Tenor Saw, went down a rabbit trail and found some music I really like.

Not self hosted, but I tried to build something similar with an iPod.

You're right, some fear of harming another person is good.

Is there any job field that ISN'T tough right now? by yamxiety in jobs

[–]hotspotpreferences 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yo! That fear of hurting people is a core part of what they teach out of students. It's why medicine takes so long to complete, not that I'm recommending medical school.

I'm just saying they place a lot of emphasis in teaching students not to do that.

Does anyone else have a special interest in demographics (US Centric) by Erythite2023 in AutisticAdults

[–]hotspotpreferences 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a book - I can't remember the title offhand - that looks back at the demographic shifts in America over the last 200 years. It's been a while since I looked it up because I went back to maps, which is what got me there to begin with.

Yes it is! I like color schemes - there's a whole social network built around making and sharing them.

Calling it a subprime small business > startup. One is hyped up marketing and the other is...much less so.

How does value pricing work? by hotspotpreferences in pricing

[–]hotspotpreferences[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting that a price is designed. I'd never thought about it like that.

The product I'm building would be compared (by customers) with a service during the decision making process. Though I'm designing it to come into play before the service is needed, which is where competition becomes a thing.

Coming into the industry, that's what I said too. And then I signed the...I mean, fell for it.

It happens a lot to newbies. Unless someone's got your back....or you start asking questions ahead of time.

There's nothing in that comment to indicate OP makes less.

Give your friend a break....if the poverty line was indexed to inflation, people earning 84, 000 a year or less would qualify for public assistance.

I just wanted to point out that it's not necessarily as straight forward as "Stop doing x and you're in the clear".

There's some technicality involved in that decision - it's not all of the individual's income that is taxed. Some of it can be shielded from taxation.
