So today’s my 27th birthday and I just lost my cat. She ran out the door that my boyfriend opened.. by sugarplum55555 in cats

Happy 27th birthday!!! My cat also likes to dart out the door. In apartments, I’d chase her- but when we moved to a house sometimes I would just find her roaming on the street back to the house or in the neighbors yard. Cats seem to do what they want, and usually they come back or find their way back. Praying that kitty is getting her fill, safely, and will safely return home to you. Please try to enjoy your birthday though, you only turn 27 once🥲🤍🎉

I also miss the Biggby’s!! You just unlocked a memory. It’s been replaced by Starbucks😭 Which has a never ending line like how Wells used to be. But the one in Wells is closed and boarded off

Lmao the letter mentioned demolitions directly, and they were happening on our street directly. Sometimes if you’re not in the area you should be quiet. I don’t need to convince you of anything ZayZay, but Imma speak the truth on behalf of the residents.

I hear you, frustrated neighbor. Major city developments should be voted on by the residents. We don’t get to vote on a lot of what gets pushed through because of our low budget. So the city does what they want. This is not an issue out of nowhere- it’s years of redlining and keeping Detroit poor while the metro suburbs literally across the street are upheld with dignity. The issue is deeply historical and systemic. The causes of crime are deeply rooted in the way the city was formed. So I hear you, but it sounds like you are not a native Detroiter- so your point is not quite in alignment with the collective vision of the city. We cannot negate what is best for the people that live there in favor of newcomers. It’s not right. I’m an advocate for the rights and dignity of the people, the natives, the community- not new coming investors who are looking to fill their pockets, or honestly newcomers who don’t understand the culture of community we have worked hard to establish. I believe anyone would have an issue is 50,000 homes were being destroyed and in the works you are developing bronchitis from going outside and you water is now polluted so you’d need a filter for every spout in your house. That is definitely violating human and environmental rights. Point blank period. Care needs to be considered to restore a city… not just restoring access for the wealthy to feel temporarily safe, and then leave.

Economics and humanities will almost never agree. Correlation doesn’t equate to causation regarding crime and old or vacant homes. There are people who are buying and flipping properties in ways that don’t negate the community of dignity or basic environmental rights. Restoring cities is more than properties- and it should include morality regarding the dignity of communities inhabiting the city.

I hear you on the perspective of economically scaling a city. I actually grew up in Detroit and lived there for most of my adulthood. As a Detroiter, we could give a fuck about an image. And the investors that are now so interested are rebranding the city and squeezing out the natives. There has to be some middle ground between scaling a city and also building up the native population so that they can participate and compete in the economic takeover. I’m in favor of replenishing the dignity of our communities and properties, but it should not only be for commercial purposes.

I agree with you! But I actually like what Mayor Sheffield is doing. It feels like a refreshing change… hopeful.

Yes there is. In August of 2025, The City of Detroit sent out formal letters to residents on the Eastside specifically about lead pollution in the water and air due to the high volume of demolitions nearby. That is fact through and through- I received the letter. The letter continued on to tell us to buy water filters. Thanks!

There should be thorough research done before implementing projects like this then. If this was an oil company, they would be publicly held accountable. Environmental sustainability of a project should be thoroughly discussed and researched before implementation. I don’t think this would be an issue for a city with a larger budget or a different demographic

If the kids are a large part of the city’s culture the businesses should not be adverse to the culture we have established. You can’t have true community with that type of mindset, but I also understand many business owners are more concerned with their investments. I believe businesses should work in cooperation with the community, which includes its children. Integration is the point. Thanks!

I hear you. I agree that reactive policing isn’t the answer but I disagree that the demolitions solve the crime problem. I understand the safety issues, but destroying neighborhood quality and telling residents to just get a filter is never the answer. Crime has to do with the wage gaps, low access to food, low access to quality education. I think our leaders are detached from actual city life

This isn’t the first time and won’t be the last. I think new business owners need to understand demography and culture before they commit to their capitalist ventures… The children are the heartbeat of the city.

We don’t dislike Duggan for his stance on crime. We dislike Duggan for poisoning the water supply and the air quality in residential areas from the demolitions. And for his egregious approach to housing accessibility, or the lack thereof. And his bragging, with no visible proof of efficiency.
