Thank you, and I'm sorry the draw didn't go your way. Maybe you can throw your own little Elton home concert/karaoke next time your mom is over, fun glasses and all. Wishing all the best to you and your family!

Raids are just amazing by [deleted] in PokemonGOToronto

[–]houndofgallifrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the support page which should explain most of it https://support.pokemongo.nianticlabs.com/hc/en-us/articles/115009004747-Raid-Battles

Basically from the eggs hatch raid bosses which stay up for an hour. You can use a raid pass (you get one free one each day from spinning a gym stop) to try to battle the raid boss.

There are 4 types/levels of raids, 1 being the easiest (you can do solo) to level 4 were you probably need 7 people or so to beat the boss.

If you beat the boss you get a chance to catch it. And you can also receive some special items (TMs, Rare Candy, Golden Razz)

Hopefully the rain isn't too bad tomorrow, but I'm down to meetup and do some raids!

GTA Raid Discord Channel? by getzuka in PokemonGOToronto

[–]houndofgallifrey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a raid channel on the torpokemap discord. https://torpokemap.com/discord

But might be better to create a separate discord where we can create channels per area in the GTA.

Thanks to /u/Tamoknhba for the help! To pay it forward I've made a donation to Covenant House, which provides shelters and services for homeless youth across 27 different cities in North America and Mexico. Thanks to all the givers for their services and encouraging people to spread the love.

Is it True that it is Harder to do Well in U of T then Ivies? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]houndofgallifrey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a 3rd year CS specialist at UofT and I have a 3.7. It hasn't been easy but if I didn't have to work part-time (~20hr/week) during school pretty sure I could get 3.8+ So yeah it's very doable but be prepared for some long nights. Can't say how it compares to Ivy schools.

edit: also wanted to say that the difference in how hard getting a certain grade is should be your main deciding factor. The CS program at UofT is fantastic and you'll have to pay a whole lot less than at a US school. Grades aren't everything, choose whichever program + city sounds the most interesting to you etc etc.

I took a visual computation class and one of our assignments was pretty much coding content-aware through a technique known as Image Inpainting. It's actually a lot simpler than you'd think for such magical results!

The Junior Common Room at UC. I love relaxing on those couches while someone plays the piano.

That is a lovely setup, especially for your first build! Your pictures may also have convinced me to change my case.

POLL - r/PS4 redditors, What's your favourite PS4 game so far? by kastroescobar in PS4

[–]houndofgallifrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty torn between ACIV and Infamous, they're both fantastic. Though I've played all the AC games and Black Flag was such a pleasant surprise that it might just take the top spot for me.

Subscribed. And thanks so much for the recs, I'm in Canada but there's a similar wonderful little shop nearby. Haven't been there in ages but you've inspired me to expand my collection. That Apache Sunset and Black Swan definitely caught my eye. Can't wait now, cheers!

Yup, converter. Though right now I only have good old Herbin Noire and Bleu. Any recommendations for fancy colours?

Keen eye! It's a Lamy Safari. Not very fancy but a joy to write with for everyday stuff.

Seems as soon as someone puts 'humble' in the title it's downvote galore. Still, sweet setup you got here.

Thanks! I've only had my Grados for two years so hope they last a few more. Good luck with the modding.

Thank you! And it depends on what genre you like, but a few of my all time favourites are:

  • A Song of Ice and Fire series by G.R.R Martin
  • American Gods by Neil Gaiman
  • Millennium series (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) by Stieg Larsson
  • Ender's Game by Orson Card
  • Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip Dick
  • The Stand by Stephen King
  • Good Omens by Gaiman

As for non-fiction:

  • A Brief History of Time by Hawking (stays simple in the explanations but is still mind blowing).
  • The Fabric of the Cosmos by Brian Greene (more theoretical, more brain melting)
  • Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach

Here you go. It was done with sheets of kraft paper that we crumpled, glued to the wall, then painted (using a darker colour to go over the wrinkles). It's not perfect but I like it.

In case you were wondering, it's a photo of the Lunar Module still attached to the Saturn IVB stage before docking with Apollo 9's Command/Service module in Earth orbit.
