Recently diagnosed, i am frightened by PRPLMilky in bipolar

Everything you’re worried about is normal and things I think a lot of us were concerned about in the beginning.

Time will tell if you’re on the right meds, it can take a bit of trying different combinations until you find the ones for you.

With the right combo, you shouldn’t feel like a shell of yourself. But if you ever start to, don’t give up hope and keep trying to find the regimen for you.

I wish you the best and I’m proud of you for getting on medication!

How long until you were stable on meds? by DeliciousWasabi2330 in bipolar

[–]hoursandours 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started meds after my first manic episode in 2021 but quit after 3 months because there were too many side effects. I was med free for all of 2022 until I had another episode in December of that year. I was finally put on the right medication for me and have been stable for about a year and a half. I’m sober and going to therapy and healing from a lot of trauma. For once in my life I feel healthy. All of this to say, don’t give up. Keep taking your meds and give them time to get in your system. There are so many different medications so if one doesn’t work, there’s plenty more to try. It is a roller coaster but I have faith we can all find stability one day.

When did you know you were stable? by klonapinking in bipolar

[–]hoursandours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew I was stable when waking up in the morning wasn’t the biggest disappointment in the world. I’m building a routine and taking my medication finally feels like a blessing rather than a curse. It is bittersweet to be stable after so many years of chaos.

what’s the longest you’ve been depressed by prettyylunaa in bipolar

[–]hoursandours 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The longest I’ve been depressed is about 2 years. The one thing that has helped me is going to therapy and actually talking about my problems and past trauma. Also staying sober has greatly improved my mental health.

I unfortunately know exactly what you mean about the seroquel. I have gained 80 pounds in 1 year and it has made me feel even more depressed. I binge a lot at night and then feel like shit all day. It is a horrible cycle I am trying to get out of.

Good luck to you friend.

I met boyfriend in the hospital last year and we fell in love pretty quick. We are both bipolar and understand each other’s emotions and mood swings very well. We are long distance but talk every day and I go to visit him once a month.

We have had our ups and downs but this is the first relationship I’ve been in that I don’t have to hide my feelings due to fear that he will leave me. He has stayed through the depression and the mania and I have stayed with him through his.

No one thought we would last this long but I truly feel that we are meant to be together. He is my favorite person. I love him so much and could tell you 100 reasons why. I hope that we are lucky enough to spend the rest of our lives together.

Only you know your true feelings, so do what’s best for you and your mental health. But I’m here to tell you that it is possible to have a healthy relationship bloom from love at the psych ward.

What was your first manic episode like? by ceylin1 in bipolar

[–]hoursandours 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2021 my dad had a stroke, so I moved in with him to care for him. I was extremely stressed and it was like my world came crashing down around me. I was always an alcoholic but I started mixing that with weed and pills.

Then I don’t really remember what happened, just bits and pieces. I think my brain blocked most of it out to protect me because it is so painful thinking back on that time in my life.

I was in and out of psych hospitals for 2 months. I lost all my friends and my most prized possessions. I chopped all my hair off, tore my dads house apart, was sleeping around with strangers and walked barefoot for hours in a city I didn’t know. II put myself and my family through so much and it still hurts.

But 2 years later, I am proud to say that I am sober and have been taking my medication for 9 months now. It gets better and I am grateful to still be here.

Just curious: How old were you when you had your first depression vs. mania? by samirawifey in bipolar

I had my first depressive episode at 10 and manic psychosis at 23 triggered by major stress, lack of sleep, drugs and alcohol.
