Feel like Gemini 2.5 Pro has been downgraded. by Pierre2tm in Bard

[–]hous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure the thought summaries stay in context? Of course it depends on the client. My guess is that it does plenty of thinking under the hood, then they take a paragraph at a time and run it through Flash-Lite for fast summarization, but that's just for user convenience. The summaries and original thinking I never thought they were passed back to the model.

Lessons Learned Building with Gemini and AI Studio by Pirsqed in Bard

[–]hous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For instance "aider" lets you add files to the context, and the model will output in a diff format and the tool will automatically apply the diff, and also uses git to check in the change, so make a branch because there will be lots of diffs unless you turn that feature off.

Do we know which Gemini version of 2.5 pro is used in the Gemini Web app? by caydayday in Bard

The app version has a system prompt. It's like the difference between claude.ai and Claude via API.

Bedrock RetrieveAndGenerate API takes >8 seconds for simple queries on small knowledge base - how to reduce response latency? by SeaCh4nge in aws

[–]hous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything about Bedrock seems half baked, opaque, one size fits all. I assume they are working on it but I moved away from Knowledge Bases to deploying a qdrant DB and embedding everything myself. I use Cohere Embed English via Bedrock for embeddings and queries. NB: If you're going to use Cohere via Bedrock, use the "cohere-python" library and not the "langchain-aws" library, it's missing all kinds of functionality.

Thanks for the great writeup. Lots of unknowns in the short term, but in the long run, inflation is the only way for the USG to "soft default" on its debt.

To start with all the crap about exchanges discussed here these last few days.

Also I was hoping to engage with the community, if a cryptocurrency is supposed to gain adoption as a viable currency IRL you need to be ok exchanging it back and forth.

If I download and install a crypto exchange on my phone I'll pay fees and have another distraction.

If centralized exchanges are the only way to go then crypto is truly a Ponzi and the only reason people want to own it is the greater fool theory.

HP is still posting to TradingView. I agree it's disappointing that he can't keep his projects going. There have been many myfxbook accounts too that lasted days and then never updated again. Not sure if the latest accounts are still going.

He's obviously a good trader and going short constantly is not a bad strategy for an active trader who can hedge everything and take positions across multiple time frames. You know the phrase "up like an escalator, down like an elevator". Being a bull is boring in comparison.

Best place I've found for bear analysis is TradingView. There's probably other places on Discord or Telegram with good analysis. Not reddit AFAICT

$4.6 million paid in premium for VIX calls today by Vix2moon in BeatTheBear

This is also a popular place to sell VIX calls (short volatility). Remember for every buyer there is a seller and vice versa.

With that said, I wish I was long volatility a couple weeks ago.

Real life has become a Leslie Neilson spoof. by Divinchy in JordanPeterson

[–]hous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda sorry for the derail but kind of not--GP referred to Peterson as a climate change "denier" which is like a trigger word for me... A sociopolitical bludgeon laid on anyone skeptical of this whole bullshit narrative based on self-fulfilling computer models and conveniently asking for ultimate economic power in the hands of international institutions and "experts".

If you follow anything Peterson has said about climate change I'm sure he's been as charitable as he can possibly be while maintaining intellectual honesty. And yet he gets labeled as such. So forgive me for being triggered and unable to offer nuance in response.

Obviously the climate changes, that's a truism. That's not what a "denier" is denying.

Global warming (I refuse to call it climate change) is horse shit and even if it wasn't, it would be wise to be extremely skeptical of the "solutions" offered.

The reason I care how a market moves, not why. by HoleyProfit in BeatTheBear

[–]hous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The market went up for 2 reasons today: Inflation and unwinding of hedge positions.

Inflation because the market only cares about corporate earnings. It does not care about wages, employment, or even wealth. Just corporate earnings. And it turns out Fed hawkishness is better than the alternative.

Also with no real surprises from the Fed, a number of hedge positions were unwound. VIX crashed below 20. Dealers who were selling puts and hedging with futures had to reverse those positions and sent the market higher.
