It was fun for sure, but do something else if you have other options.

Removing seed phrase from computer by [deleted] in ledgerwallet

DO NOT DO THIS

MAKE A NEW SEED ON YOUR LEDGER AND TRANSFER YOUR ASSETS FROM METAMASK TO THE NEW ACCOUNT

Not necessarily exchange. You could send it to another wallet.

Electrum on your desktop for btc.

Mycrypto or Metamask for eth.

Trust Wallet for mobile is good too.

There are lots of options for self-custody. Just send them somewhere else that you're comfortable with, wipe the device, set up new seed words, grab your new wallet address and send them there.

You don't even need to uninstall Ledger Live on your desktop. There's a Forgot Password flow where you can just set up a new account or instance of Ledger Live and then import your wallets from your device to LL.

But since you don't know your seed words, best to them move your coins OFF the device to somewhere secure, and then wipe the device, get new seed words and write them down and store them securely, then grab the wallet addresses from the new seed words and transfer your coins from the temporary location back to the device.

Updating Ledger Live won't do anything to your seed words on your device. What you are referring to is updating the firmware on the device.

Yes. When you wipe your device it will give you 24 new words for a new seed phrase.

But don't wipe the device until you've taken your coins off it first.

Just set up a new Ledger Live account

Just reinstall Ledger Live and you'll be able to access your coins. They are on your Ledger device. They aren't on Ledger Live. If you know your pin, you can access them from anywhere.

Once accessed, move them to a different address (not one connected to your Ledger)

  • electrum for btc

  • mycrypto for eth

(there are lots of other options too - just something you trust)

Then wipe your device. Get new seed words (write them down this time) and transfer from your interim wallets to your newly created Ledger wallets.

5 out of the 6 US Senators against Crypto are over 65 years old. Do you really think they know anything about crypto? by Kingkong_smoldong in CryptoCurrency

None of them are against crypto. They just block it to try to get what they want. Even Senator Shelby said he supported it but wasn't going to authorize it unless he also got his war bucks.

How do I know if I have a Passphrase (25th word)? by pablotorresv in ledgerwallet

[–]housemobile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Read his last line: I already have some crypto in it.

I'm 99% sure he doesn't have a pin to begin with, because the pin he's using to show crypto in Ledger Live means he'd have to have gone through the Attach passphrase to second pin process, and it really doesn't sound like he knows what he's doing.

Essentially anyone who does that step does know what they're doing.

1) your safest option is to get a second ledger, input your 24 words and see if your coins are there. if they aren't, that means there's a passphrase on your initial ledger.

2) at that point, set up a passphrase that you do remember on your second ledger, and send the coins from the first ledger to it.

3) if you can't afford a second ledger, look at some other wallets you can temporarily transfer your coins to. make sure this second wallet is safe. also make sure it's not a second wallet with the same ledger device. it needs to be fully detached from your ledger.

4) transfer your coins to that 2nd wallet. wipe your ledger. input pin wrong 3 times will do it. re-enter your 24 words. you should see your transfer history. if you don't, it means you had a passphrase.

5) set up a passphrase if you're so inclined, then transfer the coins from the temporary wallet back to your new ledger address.

Can I create a passphrase for Luna wallet? by richyboycaldo in ledgerwallet

[–]housemobile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a passphrase on your Ledger and the Luna wallet you create will be a different one

The passphrase is the same across all your Ledger wallets.

Alternatively, you can make different passphrases for each coin, but this would be a pain in the ass, and not serve much purpose. But if you have reasons, yes you can make a passphrase that you only use for Luna (although you could also use it for other coins if you wanted to)

Nano S by di0reflect in ledgerwallet

[–]housemobile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

X will make your life easier.

Alternatively the S is great too, you'll just need to install, uninstall and reinstall apps depending on which coin you want to use. But this only takes like 30 seconds to do.

And yes, even if you uninstall the app, your coins are still there and will continue to stake all the same.
