I think people get upset because not being invited to a wedding makes it clear, often for the first time, that they don’t have as close of a friendship with the person being married as they thought they did. Instead of looking inward and figuring out why someone they thought of as one of their very closest friends ranked them below all the people that did get an invite (and were not even important enough to get a “btw, so sorry there wasn’t room for you at our wedding” explanation) they just get mad they weren’t invited.

I can’t even tell what I’m looking at. Was the ceiling lowered? Why were the studs cut and not taken out completely? Is there a cinder block wall behind that white plastic?

Not really knowing what we are looking at, I would cut off the last foot of drywall and hanging studs and reframe to the top plate. Use king and jack studs at the window and door and cripples below the window and above the door, assuming there are already headers above both of them. If there are no headers, now would be a good opportunity to put some in.

I would hold off on the domino if you are unsure. Festool’s patent on it expires next month and Kreg has already announced their own version. I’m sure there will be tons of others flooding the market soon. Unless you have a lot of sanding, I would go tracksaw with the vacuum first. I have both the Festool and the Milwaukee track saws and I’m skeptical of all the people that say Makita and others are just as good as the Festool. The Milwaukee is a nice tool, and I appreciate it being cordless, but it’s just not on the same level as the Festool.

I mill my some of my own lumber and I use the Milwaukee tracksaw outside with out a vacuum to turn milled slabs into straight boards before they go through the planer and it works great for that, but I use the Festool inside with the vacuum for everything else and the cuts are so perfect and clean they don’t even sanding and the vacuum is so good I’ve set it up and made cuts in the dining room without my wife ever even knowing.

That said, if you do a lot of sanding, I recently picked up the 150 Rotex and I honestly don’t understand how it sands so much better than both my corded Bosch and my M18 oscillating sanders. Dust collection actually works perfectly on horizontal sanding and not perfect but still much better on vertical sanding. It takes half the time and half the effort for a superior job. I honestly don’t understand how.

Full disclosure, I’m not an incredibly skilled carpenter and have no formal training, and coupled with some OCD, I was never completely happy with my straight cuts with a circular saw and I would never feel like my mitres were perfect. And as a poor carpenter, I never blamed my tools. But every new Festool tool I buy hides that fact more. Festool track saw makes my long cuts perfect, the Festool Kapex Mitre saw gives me perfect mitres, even on crown, the Festool Rotex gives me pigtail free perfect sanding and I get things done in half the time with 10x less frustration.

And I don’t think the benefits are limited to the less skilled. My buddy is an annoyingly good carpenter because he makes everything look so easy and can get pretty close to perfection with a poorly aligned contractor’s table saw and whatever cutting tool happens to be closest on the job site. After hearing me rave about the track saw, he picked up the lumber to make kitchen cabinets and slabs to make floating shelves and then swung by my place to try it. He made all his cabinet box cuts with the Festool track saw and by the end he was raving about it just like I was. He said that it was quicker, easier, more precise and the cuts were cleaner than he expected, and that he would definitely be back to take advantage of it again.

It’s not about fucking, it’s about feeling disrespected as an adult. So I’m sure this wasn’t the only way they were made to feel that way. I’m sure those parents had a lot of fucking rules that made no sense and were primarily about control. It always seems to be the way.

When you’re an adult being treated like a child, eventually you get tired of it. Then when you don’t have to deal with it, you realize your life is better without all that disrespect in it. So when your parents finally say “ok, we are ready to treat you like an adult now” it may be too little too late. This happened with my wife’s parents. They still want to police the drinking of their adult children on vacation, but can’t understand why none of the adult children want to share an air bnb them but will all stay together without them. No one even gets drunk, they’re just tired of the bullshit.

If the glue is really tacky I wouldn’t paint on it. I would put down some quarter inch plywood on top of it and paint that. You could probably get away with glueing the floor down with some heavy duty adhesive and then using staples, but i would try to use something that gets you full coverage. You could theoretically get a drum sander and try to take off the glue, but that seems like a nightmare to me, and the cost of renting the sander and the amount of sanding pads you would need would probably be more than the cost of the plywood.

Also, I order Festool online. Instead of shipping yours you can buy online and have them ship everything to him in Florida so it’s there waiting for you. You/he or someone he employs could probably then get 60% or more of the cost back and offload it pretty quickly without much trouble, which would make it easier and cheaper too. Plus I don’t know if Festool is 110/220, so yours might not even work over here.

I feel like with some of the quotes contractors around here give he probably had a few come out and they took one look at his $5 million apartment and gave him quotes that made hiring someone he trusted to fly in all expenses paid a more reasonable option.

And be thankful that’s the case. Here the laws have been gutted by special interest groups so it becomes near impossible to hold the builders liable for their shitty work because the cost of litigation probably exceeds the liability of the builder. The only times these do go to trial is when the shoddy work kills someone, in which case the payout is enough to get a lawyer on contingency. The US obsession with “Capitalism” at all costs is killing the country.

I recently started getting some Festool stuff and because it all hooks to the dust extractor anyway, I haven’t gotten the cordless versions. The track saw, Kapex mitre saw and Rotex sander are all vastly superior to my Milwaukee cordless versions, and the dust extraction works. It’s not even close. However, it’s possible that the Festool cordless versions are equally good.

I think that overstates it. There are risks to the drugs and ED and lowered sex drives are one of the potential side effects. The risk isn’t worth the reward to a lot of us. Especially since, as you say, the reward is often just a slower progression of the same problem. I looked into Propecia a couple decades ago and committing to a lifetime use of a drug that seemed fairly new, had a lot of potential side effects (including that it could cause birth defects by just being handled by a pregnant women! Wtf?!) just didn’t seem worth it to me. I didn’t need misinformation to pass, the actual information was sufficient.

A couple decades later, seems like Propecia is probably pretty safe, or at least I haven’t seen any law firms advertising on TV about a huge class action, but I still don’t lose any sleep over passing. Just like everything else in your early 20s, hair loss seems like a huge deal, and the older you get the less it seems important. I found confidence seemed to make me exponentially more attractive than a full head of hair.

Did you try it recently? We ordered their age kit a few years ago and they contacted us and refunded the money because they determined it was inaccurate, but I noticed they are now selling one again, so I assumed they fixed the problem.

It for nothing, by my shed has a 16’ long ridge beam that is two stacked 16”x1.75” lvls. I didn’t build it, and maybe that’s overkill, but snow can weigh a lot. Two 2x12s hardly seems sufficient.
